  1. Also, with all the various safety recalls, most places can't take donations of car seats, cribs, strollers etc. They can't keep track of what was recalled vs what wasn't, so they can't take used stuff like that. And to bring it back to Jinger, I'm guessing she didn't get many hand me downs. But I do love a lot of the clothes she has.
  2. ***MOD NOTE**** Small Talk is for discussion that is not about the show. Please talk about Sean's passing in his topic(s) where there is already an ongoing discussion. Thank you.
  3. I got a cold today. The son has had three colds since the beginning of January and I finally caught one. He was getting over one and now it sounds like he has the same one I do, so maybe he's on his fourth? Husband is working. Daughter has rehearsal from 4-6 and son has a concert arrive at 5:30 until probably 8 (which we have been told we can avoid because we've heard/seen the songs). I'm not looking for romance today. I'm looking for someone to somehow get some dinner in us before 8 pm tonight so I can crawl into bed at 9. @Jynnan tonnix said: My birthday is Feb 1 and Mr. Toast's birthday is Feb 20. We don't really do anything big or special but after Christmas and these birthdays and the kids winter break just after the Valentine's, we tend to just let it slide. I get a card but no way would I want to handle the restaurants tonight! Also, I'm not cooking tonight, either!
  4. In a land of few rules there is a big one that a few people have seen fit to violate. We do not tolerate racism. This includes using pidgin English or other forms of language to mock the way certain ethnicities supposedly pronounce things. Any mocking pseudo spellings of egg roll or any other such items will earn you a warning. Taken to an extreme, it may well earn you a seat on the bus out of here, with or without gasoline soaked drawers. Questions? Ask your Mods, @PrincessPurrsALot and @frenchtoast
  5. This topic can sometimes reflect the the current contentious topic of the day. Everyone has been following the Be Civil Golden Rule nor have personal politics found their way in. But as a reminder: There does not need to be consensus or capitulation. Explain without making it personal. No one needs to respond or engage with every post. Thank you.
  6. I agree, big screen. You could feel the music, though perhaps it was a good sound system where we saw it? It was a newer theater. I adored it and am so glad we saw it on the big screen.
  7. We adopted our greyhounds from a group in Middleboro. But dang, that's a drive. I had to drive to Canton on Friday for the We go to PPAC to see shows. Love Providence!
  8. Yes please! It's fascinating but the discussion of education/teachers in the various states should continue in Small Talk please.
  9. Folks, we've got the explanation of what's going on. There is no need to start delving into the politics. Carry on with fun chat, please.
  10. I saw the secret agent being chased answering the call from his mother. "The squirrels are in the attic. Your father won't call an exterminator. He says it's personal now." I love that one! I'm hoping to see the Hump Day one soon.
  11. Hey, folks, can we please circle back to JD and Abbie and continue the birthday discussion in Small Talk? Thanks!
  12. Is it this one, @Brattinella? https://www.ispot.tv/ad/7xlX/giorgio-armani-fragrances-acqua-di-gio-dive-into-a-bottle It's one of the few fragrance ads that I remember because it actually matches the name of the fragrance. Well, kind of.
  13. Six of the nation’s most talented kids join Adam Savage for MythBusters Jr. Together they will tackle myths ranging from driving, explosions, chemistry, physics, popular culture and more.
  14. I think it means that many of the "smaller" and less visited forums will no longer have a Small Talk area. One of the required topics for new show forums was a Small Talk. If it's single topic, it won't have that. So, Star Wars Rebels will just be one topic and the Small Talk topic won't be crunched down. I have a feeling that Counting On will not fall into that category, so it's pretty likely that this Small Talk will stay. I can't confirm or anything, it's just it seems likely to me. Bon mot is French literally translated to good word. Anything clever or witty or inspiring etc that you or someone else wrote you might want to copy and paste elsewhere on your own storage or what have you. To verify that my understanding was correct (I graduated college with a French Language and Lit degree so I sometimes lose the English idiosyncrasies) I checked the Merriam Webster and it's almost exactly what I wrote. Having a daughter who asks what a word means has turned me into a dictionary. Though, as a parent, it's nice to be able to say in this day and age, "Ask Google. I can't figure a good way to explain it."
  15. @doodlebug said: We went to Universal Orlando for the first time this past summer and we loved it!! It helps that three out of four of us have read Harry Potter. (So much so that son, who is not a reader, was nitpicking Forbidden Journey. Muggles can't see dementors, Mom! That's bogus!) My daughter (who is 12 going on 13) was chosen for the wand show. (For non Harry Potter folks--witches and wizards get their wands when they turn 11, so the attendants are on the lookout for that age group most likely) And considering the martyr airs she was putting on the Hogwarts Express as we were going over to Hogsmeade about how it was fine if her brother now wanted to get a wand she wouldn't get one. Even though we told her she and her brother could each get a wand. ($50 people!) The attendants maneuvered her right in front and made sure I could see. When she was ushered out before the rest of the group, the assistant said she didn't have to buy it. And she's all, "The wand chose me." It was awesome. And frozen butterbeer on a hot day is quite nice. We have friends that are Disney Vacation Club members we all took a Disney trip right as the Josh scandal hit. They would like us to go again after Galaxy's Edge opens. We loved that trip and my kids are looking forward to going again. @floridamom I'm sort of envious that you're so close. But we were there in August and it was so hot. Not much hotter than what we were having here in MA at the time. But I don't think I could handle that heat all the time. The thunderstorms nearly every afternoon was cool though. As far as adults going to amusement parks--we have season passes to Six Flags New England. It's about 2 hours away but it's a fun day. We're going to brave the cold tomorrow and see the holiday lights tomorrow. I will also note as much as Disney is lauded for their customer service and experience, we had excellent service at Universal. They were pleasant, fun, personable and knowledgeable and did everything they could to make our visit wonderful. It was awesome!
  16. Hey, I could be wrong about that quote. I may have to watch Infinity War again. Dang.
  17. This is true and I'm fine with it. It hit a lot of emotional beats. Especially: And Cap with a tear down his cheek. And Nat and Cap. And I love Scott. I'm good with it. But dang starting with Tony (and with those lines) I'm...going to be a blubbering mess. This sounds like something my husband would say. He does not like spoilers and wants to be surprised. I'm less sanguine about it because I like to see it all together and little spoiled moments don't ruin a movie for me. But this movie, I don't know. I have a feeling there will be another trailer before Captain Marvel. Especially since that's what Strange says to Tony at the end. "We're in the endgame now."
  18. Yes, a bit shortened would have really cut the fat on that season. But there were some real gems in there, too. (I'll never forget sitting in the theater getting ready to watch Star Trek Beyond and Simon Pegg came on to do that PSA of how many people worked on the film and thank you for seeing it in the theaters. He was wearing a t-shirt with a MACO insignia and I was impressed. And then I saw the movie and I was very impressed.) I liked a lot of Season 4, too, though the Vulcan arc was a bit meh for me. The short arcs were a perfect format, and allowed to tell a full story without having to stretch too much or cut too much.
  19. I don't think the adults are related, she's taking her kids caroling through a neighborhood. In her minivan. With the good speakers. I think that's what the ad is trying to say. So they're just a random couple answering the door.
  20. John David and Abbie go back to where their love story began as they say "I do" in Ada OK in front of 1,000 of their closest family and friends; with love and hijinks in the air, this wedding ceremony is sure to have many sweet surprises. There is no episode season number that I can see, and TLC will change it anyway. I'm just spitballing here. It is not an issue.
  21. Season 3 starts Nov 19 on Netflix. Here's a place to discuss episodes and characters from the season. Please note there is a book vs show topic where questions may be posed, differences discussed etc. Book talk is considered spoilers. Destiny is all. (That may be wrong, but close enough)
  22. I am not an underwear folderer because I am lazy AF. My kids are teens so no pics I have a general idea of what I'm doing gift wise for Christmas. I have one gift finished and it's sitting upstairs. I don't think I will be able to finish another by Christmas but we won't be seeing them so I'm not fussed. The daughter is turning 13 Dec 21, so I've also been scouting out birthday stuff, too. But it's going to be a real quiet Christmas by us and I am quite happy with that. Thanksgiving we changed things up a bit this year. First, I should note that Mr. Toast went to college in this area so when we moved here 14 years ago, we had a family friend that we spend a lot of time with. Their son is a year younger than ours, his mom calls Mr. Toast the good son. We go on vacation together sometimes. We spend Thanksgiving and Christmas together sometimes. I should also note that we have two goofy greyhounds and we can't bring them to friend's house AND Mr. Toast has celiac disease so we offer to host a lot. Also, the mom/nana has bad knees/back and stuff and we'd like to make it easier for her. She really wants to host Thanksgiving. Mr. Toast's family would really like him to travel to see them. So this year I suggested a change up. We are hosting a "Friendsgiving" on Sunday so we can all get together and Mr.Toast can get to see his family, my mom can work on Friday and adopted mom can host her own. My kids have taken the Friendsgiving part to heart and have invited some of their friends too. Instead of making a turkey and all the trimmings, we're going to do Swedish meatballs and we're tweaking a "Thanksgiving" meatball. On actual Thanksgiving I'm going to be snuggled on my couch with my doggos watching the parade and eating throughout the day. Adopted mom is all if you get lonely come over and I'm all, this is heaven.
  23. We've had two (?) special elections in my city this year. One really important one to vote on a new high school was in April I think. (I'm so bad) So it could be she was voting in a special election in May.
