It only slightly bothers me in the sense that she was talking about Cleopatra watching her village floating away like any of that really happened. Did it happen in the movie? I mean, I don't mind a reference to history, or even an incorrect reference to history, but the city floating away from Nile flooding was just a touch too much for me. I would have accepted "Cleopatra crying in the rains while getting the news that Ceasar was dead" or "Cleopatra crying in the rains as she realized that she and Marc Anthony were doomed" And who knows, I may have been more forgiving if the dress turned out better.

A painting is not really meant to serve a useful purpose, its meant to bring aesthetic pleasure, or rather primarily to create an emotion. That is the primary purpose of most paintings are sculpture. Now of course they may have a secondary utilitarian purpose (ie - covering a hole on your wall). But in contrast the primary purpose of clothing is to cover your body so you're not walking around naked. And there is a secondary purpose in that, in addition to covering your body (which, by law, or by the elements has to be covered) it can also, in its design create an emotion and become art, but thats not its primary purpose. At times, even the law has problems with the protectability of artistic features in traditionally utilitarian items, and the utilitarian features in traditionally artistic items. But clothing design generally gets no protection under copyright law because its primarily utilitarian.

I think the yearly Nile floods actually helped the Egyptian agriculture. Beyond that, there is an Engineering an Empire episode about how the Egyptians were able to resist flood damage in certain areas, so I'm not entirely sure the city was floating away, and I wouldn't think it would happen during Cleopatra's reign. But I'm no historian, I just watch a lot of documentaries.

^^This. I can't deny it anymore. The designers left just aren't as talented as those in previous years. I still think Fade is an amazing designer, but just really had an off day, because I thought his dresses before these past two challenges have been really wonderful. But, they not only gave them two days, but they gave them a challenge that gave them almost no artistic boundaries or limitations. While Sean's idea was new and fresh, most of the other stuff was just not good. And it wasn't great or amazing. There is a thread called "The Accessory Wall" - I have been in an Aldo, and 99% of what I've seen have been platform stiletto heels. I have never seen those ugly ass glitter tennis shoes, or those clompy boots. Apparently fashion forward at Aldo means glitter sneakers, strangely, its the same look 80 year old grandmothers have been wearing for years. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- on the subject of fashion being art and Shandaya's comment 1) even if she is 100% original, thats fine, but why say the comment in a room full of people who have just been ripped apart for being derivative? And really, I don't see how just by being original, someone is better. I haven't seen a woman wear a bikini made of rat fur dyed bright yellow, but that doesn't mean when someone does it it will be art, just because its original. I might understand someone taking her position if they had sent something down the runway that was just original and amazing, but IMO, and MV, her outfit was all sorts of ugly, and I think people could easily be original if they were okay making ugly clothes. Even if you honestly feel that way, why be so arrogant as to say it. I mean, I get being proud of your work, but come on now. 2) Clothing is not protectable under copyright law because it is labelled "utilitarian" and I think that is my view. While there may be design and art in fashion, it is different from other art, because clothing is meant to, by its very definition, be worn and be useful. A sculpture or a painting is almost never meant to be utilitarian, it is purchased only for its aesthetic value and not really for its usefulness. At least most of the time. In fashion, its the other way around most of the time, the functionality of the clothing is subordinate to the artistry in the clothing. I think there is a certain degree of artistry, but its applied to something functional, like making clothing. But MV, and my view isn't super strong on the matter, and so many of you have such interesting and impassioned views which I find interesting to read.

Phaedra Parks: Undertaker, Esq.
RealityGal replied to radishcake's topic in The Real Housewives Of Atlanta
Maybe they can do segments with him from prison. Given the divorce in the works, and the fact that Phaedra isn't sticking around we could really get some interesting stuff from him. If nothing else, segments from him teaching and advising the other inmates would just be too priceless to pass up. -
That poor girl probably practiced that for weeks Damn it that would have been fabulous! Knowing what could have been makes it so much sadder!

I think that may be the practical reason, but the facts in the complaint have to trace back to a legal claim for damages. I'm not sure if a managers job is to soothe over workplace difficulties, and help keep situations like DUIs quiet by picking you up or if thats just supposed to be like an "added service" to try to keep you a client -- I guess thats going to be part of what they will potentially fight about in court. The judge would probably be upset if he asked the attorney about why he listed the facts in the complaint and he didn't get an answer back that reflected a sound legal reason for including the facts in the complaint.

Cynthia Bailey: Model Behavior

I'm not in love with the hair, but she just looks beautiful. -
Well what looks interesting is that I don't think she will be able to go to Tim, since he seems flummoxed by her look. And while the comparisons of her to Patricia are somewhat understandable, I think highly of Patricia for never having an unkind word. I don't think even in her TH was she ever mean. She was almost always spacey, and often dealt with a bad TG critique by simply making her face a blank canvas and just doing whatever she wanted. Most of the time I thought whatever she did was ugly, but she always, IMO handled herself with class and dignity even if the face of people being downright dismissive of her. I don't think Patricia would have thrown the sort of shade Shandaya did when she mentioned that she doesn't copy anyone. I think this may make her different from Patricia just in terms of personality. However, it could all just be editing.

Since they limit the challenges to a day, the first 2/3 of the season can consist of "unfinished hem, construction issue" observations, unless you get someone with some big, big potential taste issue (like the Mitchell Perry, episode 1)

Can anyone tell me where I can find the preview for the next episode? I can't find it anywhere on Lifetime's page, and I'm about to lose my temper. ETA: I found the preview, but it didn't show Shandaya going whiny ETAA: okay, saw the preview with Shandaya going whiny

You know, I found Fade's idea interesting. And I think if he had been just a little more elaborate with it it might have worked. I think the whole nod to technology with the circuit board, the play button and the rewind could have been interesting. Because samsung has such new and innovative technology (according to the storyline of the show), his play button and rewind button with the circuit board design could have looked like a nod to earlier "cutting edge" technology, like when the walkman first came out, and we were all amped that we could rewind AND fast forward that tape. The problem was, the dress was so simple, and by simple, it was simple. There was none of the pattern play he had which made his other outfits so interesting. If he had made the simple dress into more of a gown and worked in the play button in front, rewind button in back and the circuit board design in the dress (and maybe use a nice solid color for the dress) it could have looked like what his girl would look like going to a gala or to a ball.

I think the listing of all the things the manager did for Gibson was to support the "Quantum Meruit" claim, which, if I understand it correctly is a alternative claim that the manager is making. Basically he is saying "hey judge if you don't find that there was a contract, here is all the many, many things I did for Gibson for which I deserve to get paid even without a contract, because the services I provided him were of value. $480,000 worth of value, even without a contract which stipulated the exact amount"

Phaedra Parks: Undertaker, Esq.

Yes! I think he meant he was going "underground" I suspect most polysyllabic words are not in Apollo's vocabulary...so I wouldn't be surprised if asunder hadn't made its way into whatever part of the brain holds his verbal acumen. -
But I thought this was what the TG save was for, to save a great designer that had a bad challenge or a bad day. I don't think that was Char because she never really sent anything down the runway that I thought "wow! look at that, whats going on there" There were a few dresses of Fade's where I was like "wow, what is going on there, look at those dimensions" his work seems very cerebral, about dimensions and patterns in a way that is unexpected and beautiful. I never felt that way about Char, I never felt she was bringing anything truly unique to the table. She mostly just had a lot of ruffles, I remember ruffles and peplum. I don't know, most of the designers are dying for the avant garde challenge so they can make something weird and truly "out there" and I wonder if there is something about Fade, growing up in Eastern Germany, and not having access to a ton of materials that made it so that he expresses himself through a more simple, wearable design. Maybe the idea of making something "really out there" just never really made sense to him, because all those crazy thoughts designers want to express through crazy avant garde design, he has always expressed through those more subtle cerebral details. My thoughts aren't making a whole bunch of sense so I'm gonna try to explain it better....later :)

oh I didn't mean to imply that I thought every straight white person felt the same, or even a majority. But for those people who do, it completely confuses me, and then it irritates me for that reason. Although, now I have a visual of Yogurt Bitch taking a break from policing the refrigerator to sitting at a computer writing an angry facebook message while eating her tasteless low calorie yogurt. But seriously, I'm sorry if I gave offense in that way, I didn't mean that I thought it was every straight white person, or even the majority of them.
-
I actually loved those commercials. I don't know why, I think I must sometimes have the humor of a 12 year old boy, because the idea of the mop and the broom being caught on a date just tickles me!
-
anti-white and anti straight? It just kinda grinds my gears when people who have, historically had every advantage of being in the majority complain about something as small as an ad, that was only designed to support people in other groups. I guess a commercial is anti white and anti straight if it doesn't specifically congratulate straight, white people for being so awesome. When a commercial features a straight white couple does everyone come out of the woodwork whining that its anti-gay and anti-any other ethnicity? I just don't get the entitlement that if not every commercial specifically features someone who believes the exact same thing you do, lives their life in the exact same way you do, or god forbid has a little more melatonin in their skin than you do, they shouldn't even be recognized in commercials, and if they are, the commercial is automatically anti-you. Maybe you are not the focus, maybe its not anti-you, maybe it is just pro-them.

Sean's model is pretty awesome. I wish they would bring back the part where the designers would pick their models, because I wonder if the designers would fight for Sean's model. She seemed to walk slowly to give the rain a chance to really wet the dress, and she did that twirl in the middle. But, as someone has pointed out, at least one of the designers has a model with the face of a man, and Sean has a model who sells everything he makes. So I wonder what would happen if they had that competition for models at the start of the show. You know, strangely, when Amanda was describing her idea, it sounded very interesting, but the actual dress....zoypes. And I'm unclear about why it was falling apart or why she was worried about it, didn't she sew everything together? That guest judge was particularly bad IMO, and then she started to use various design terms, and it was just too much. I guess the mean sound bites are the ones that will get you camera time. LMAO....I'm all about keeping health care cost effective, so how about I just spring for a binder clip and we can just clip his mouth shut until he has to talk. I thought it was funny when Fade was like "and the water tastes so much better because it came out of the Samsung refrigerator." Oh Fade, I hope you never lose that sense of humor! Man, if only it had been Hot Dog on a Stick and not Red Robin who was the sponsor! I'm not sure who Thom Browne is, but this reminds me of that Hitchcock movie "The Birds" This look also makes me itchy, its just too much

This episode.... 1. Well, now would have been a great time to use the Tim Gunn save, instead of for someone who basically sent a giant multicolored ruffle down the runway. 2. Shandaya - I know I talk shit about editing, but man did she ever look bad saying that stuff in the waiting room. 3. Shandaya - that outfit looked absolutely awful. She is not as "original" as she thinks either, its just that no one knows the name of the guy who first designed the clown suit. And with that ugly ass thing over it, goodness no. 4. Fade - I didn't hate it, I thought it was an interesting idea, but I don't think his aesthetic lends itself to the traditional understanding of avant garde. His style has always been more understated and cerebral. I think his idea referenced something different and interesting and so I would have kept him. Emily's on the other hand does look exactly like what we have seen before, and some of it, from her. There is always a designer that wants to go the "female warrior wearing armor" route, and this is like the 3rd look where she has done some reference to a hood or headpiece. So, I think the bottom two was close, but based on the originality of the idea, I would have probably sent Emily home. although sadly, I agree with Fade being in the bottom. 5. Bottom 3 - I think if the designer with immunity is in the bottom three, they should make it a bottom 4. There should be three people to choose from to send home. 6. 2 day challenge!!!! 7. Guest judge - what the hell is it with the guest judges. Goodness, did she go to design school? Or does she just somehow have a super special knowledge about fashion because she got cast in a TV show. By the way, someone told me to watch Masters of Sex, and now I absolutely refuse. I don't want to support anything she is on.

Wasn't he picking his nose and playing with his boogers the other night? Is that part of the Grande name he is trying to uphold? Once again, a pox upon the house of Lowe's. -
For the most recent season of all stars Snooki was a guest judge? They would have been better off going with that Beatrice from the E-surance commercials, at least she is relevant. I wonder why they don't try to get someone like RuPaul to guest judge, she is so wonderful on her own show, and even the less popular All Stars would give her more exposure. Or even Santino, he is an asshole, but an entertaining one. I just don't comprehend a world in which Snooki was the best choice ever for guest judge.
