Commercials That Annoy, Irritate or Outright Enrage
RealityGal replied to Maverick's topic in Commercials
I have a one story house, but the house was remodelled on the inside before I moved in. A home that is already paid for of course, has its advantages. But I can't imagine how a smaller, one story home would be a financial loser if you sold off the bigger house to a family. Especially with the maintenence/upkeep. A woman I know in my position (single, no kids) has a two story, four bedroom house. The cost of upkeep alone is way more than my house. But if you have mobility issues, and can't sell your house, the Acorn is the way to go! That Eggo commercial sounds awful, let me see if I can find it. http://youtu.be/Vz3RW7IhsLg The first time, it was okay, the second time I was annoyed, two more times, and I too would want to shoot at my TV. Although, to be fair, I had never thought of Nutella on an Eggo, and that sounds tasty as hell -
They do, but how many contestants go out of their way to get upset with the viewing audience for what they feel is an unfair edit? If everyone had asshole moments and they chose to air yours, so that people have a strong reaction, thats on the producers, so go cop an attitude with them. Or better yet, don't behave like an asshole on a show, where there is a villain every.....single......year. Because behaving like a jerk, on a show where there is a villain every year, only means that you have a greater chance of being highlighted as the villain. Will agree though, that this season has been a letdown. I can't blame time constraints anymore, because even with two day challenges, the work being put out isn't on par with previous seasons where two day challenges were the norm.

I think I'll watch (although I'm having a hard time getting fully through the first episode), but I'll be sure to snark as a form of protest! I actually find it cute that in law shows juries are all alive, awake, bright eyed and bushy tailed. I've seen very interesting jury trials where jury members are quite literally falling asleep...to the point of having to be shaken awake. So no, a show that mimics real life for lawyers is probably not a good idea (and I think Dick Wolf tried doing something like that that ended up being an epic fail). But I feel like they have gone too far in the opposite direction for this show, I mean there is "not enough like real life to be interesting" and then there is "what the what????" This show is running towards the second category. Almst no one in my class that I know of was a pre-law major. My major was business. My feeling was that going "pre" anything as a major would be tough, because what if you changed your mind? Everyone would always ask "well, your major was pre-law, why are you pursuing an MBA right now?" Yes! I also remember her amazing turn as the murderer from the CI episode. Even watching her eat with her little family was riveting, and her telling her daughter she couldn't wear lipstick....whoa. Just add sex. Law + sex = show, Medicine + sex = show, Accounting + sex = well, you get the picture

Commercials That Annoy, Irritate or Outright Enrage

Ugh, JG Wentworth is the worst! That fucking opera was in my head for weeks. I won't lie though, if I have an annuity, and I need the money right now, I'm probably calling JG Wentworth. Although, was it me, or did most of the people on that bus not seem to be the type to have a sweet annuity worth a payout? I know, I'm profiling :( While those chairs look like fun, you're right, it is a little confusing why people with mobility issues want to live in a 2 story, 4 bedroom house. I mean at some point whatever power source is used for the chair could fail, and that sounds like it could become problematic. -
She can snark, but when you decide to viciously snark, then you shouldn't be shocked when other people have an opinion about it. I love to snark, but I realize there is a time and place, if I decided to snark in the middle of a business meeting with a client, its probably not the right time/place, and I can expect a reaction to reflect that. If you choose to share your snark on a camera for a reality TV show, I think you shouldn't be shocked when they use it in such a way to make the audience hate you. You're entitled to your snark, people are entitled to not like you for it. You can't have one side of the coin without the other.

I don't consider appreciating the fans enough to not call them names "kissing ass." Her entire tone is bitchy and condescending, which is how she has been portrayed on the show, and tells me all I need to know. The only reason anyone is watching Korina is because of PR fans, that is the only reason she has the opportunity to be on TV. If she feels like she is being judged unfairly, its not the fault of the fans, its the fault of the producers. How can anyone expect fans to go beyond what they are shown on TV? And why should they, their job is to watch a TV show, not sit around thinking all day about what editors could be doing to Korina to make her look worse. Maybe you can't pick your edit, but you can pick what you post on facebook. Maybe you can blame other things on editing, the words you yourself type are what you feel, and your tone is reflects who you are. You feel like fans are idiots or misled sheep, why call anyone names when they are simply watching the show and believing what the show puts out. How is anyone supposed to know you're this great person, if in even defending yourself you're calling people names? And to assume that Korina Emmerich means enough in my life for me to be "dismayed" at her friendships or lack thereof only speaks to her delusional sense of self importance. I care about Korina as much as I care about anyone from a reality show. I have an opinion, and I snark about her in a community forum, and thats about as far as it goes, whether Korina falls off a cliff, or becomes friends with the Dali Llama after this, it doesn't really matter to me, because she doesn't really matter. I have strong opinions about Del Taco burritos too, and I truly think the burritos matter more than Korina. So...she can suck it. And I can't really know if I am being misled by editing. While I certainly think its possible, and at time probable most of the time its a matter of "he said/she said" and the only thing the audience sees is whats being shown to them on TV. You can put some stock into what you can actually see in front of you on TV, you can't put much stock into what you haven't seen. While I might have considered being mislead by editing a possibility, when someone comes out with a facebook post that exactly matches the personality they were shown to have on TV then I have no more questions. And whether or not they were friends on the show is something I don't believe, because Sandaya said pretty direct in a TH that Korina was a miserable human being trying to bring everyone else down. So, unless we are to disbelieve the direct words that Sandaya said about Korina, then from Sandaya's POV, Korina was a miserable human being. I find it hard to believe that someone was friends with a miserable human being, unless they became more friendly after the show. That, however, doesn't say that Korina got an unfair edit, it only says that they....at some point....became friends.

How did you ever even know? I'm convinced at least 75% of students are big fat liars. Our classes are graded on a curve, and apparently everyone gets an A in everything. Apparently we are all graduating magna cum laude.....whatever LMAO at how your Bar Review got cancelled, that sadly, makes so much sense LMAO at "how to fail the MPRE" you got that right! Second, even if I had a thought that was going to set the legal world on fire in the middle of the night he can't use email, TWEN, text messages or even a phone message? Its important enough to walk into her unlocked door? Man...thats how people get killed in scary movies, or stumble on dead bodies. Maybe Wes needed a few more years on the waitlist. Pretending to be an insurance agent is fraud, if I remember criminal law correctly. But I guess "discredit the witness" "bury the evidence" and important life lesson number three were more important than "try not to defraud anyone"

My trick if I didn't do all the reading? I volunteer to brief the first case, professors then think you did all the reading and they are far less likely to call on you. In your first year classes they are looking to catch the guy in the back playing solitaire. And bless his heart, that guy is always in class, sitting in the very back for some crazy reason. According to a professor I had, they will specifically scan the back and the sides and pick on those students because they assume they are sitting in the back so they can avoid being an active part of the class. Sit in the dead middle and keep raising your hand. And yes, law school is just like high school. Eyerollingly like high school. No assigned lockers, but something called Bar Review, where allegedly drunk girls hook up with some of the douchiest men that have ever graced the planet earth. Okay, I'm about 10 minutes in. And I'll admit, the first day of law school there were people talking about which Supreme Court Justices they liked/didn't like, whatever. I think most of it was an effort to impress their brilliance upon us all. I remember quite a few students talking shit about various supreme court justices and their legal reasoning, which I thought was laughable since it was like our second week of law school. What didn't happen was that no one stood up to brief a case and the facts they presented coincided perfectly with a power point the professor brought in. Most of the times briefing a case is not all that concise. You start to share the facts of the case, but you may forget a fact that the professor thinks is important, you don't know exactly how much detail they want you to go into. And generally when you brief a case, its from a published decision, but it sounds like this case hasn't even gone to trial. Furthermore, what didn't happen is that someone "clerked for" a Chief Justice before heading to law school. Unless he just said "worked for" which I can forgive, but clerks are generally people who have graduated from law school, and this dude just started? BTW, how long is that class? I remember Criminal Law being 3 units, meaning 3 hours a class a week (1.5 hour class, 2 days a week). they had time to all get settled, and then travel to their professors house/office, meet a client and listen to her tell her story. And even if they had a weekend, how in the world is that enough time for first year law students to peruse an entire case file, and learn the applicable law in order to try to apply it to the facts? And everyone has to have a different theory? Say what? This isn't first year criminal law, this is first year Colombo.

I think the Lifetime website has previous seasons, and I know you can buy some seasons on YouTube that show was just odd.

I actually appreciated the insight from the writers of the show. Because I was wondering about the dynamic between Kennedy and Nucky. Kennedy meets him, and with one word Nucky changes to a seltzer water. Of course Kennedy's point was salient and well made, but the question to me was "is Nucky just trying to impress Kennedy to get him to invest? Or did he see Kennedy's point and was embarrassed and so he changed his order to seltzer water?" When, later at the club, Mickey tried to give them a drink, and Nucky sent it back in a huff, was it because he was trying to become more like Kennedy? Was it because he wanted Kennedy to think that he was "drinking in" Kennedy's wisdom and had turned over a new leaf, was it because he was somewhat embarrassed because he looked up to Kennedy? Is the dynamic between the two of them strictly business where Nucky is concerned, or is it something deeper. The relationship between the two could have been explained so many different ways. Nucky could have been trying to somehow play Kennedy, by making him think he was turning over a new leaf, and would thus be a good business partner for Kennedy. At this point, he really seems to need Kennedy in Bacardi, so I can understand him pulling out all the stops. But at the same time, given Kennedy's success, I could also see him sort of looking up to Kennedy as a role model. That Nucky truly respects and admires Kennedy, and wishes he could have had the same life makes a lot of sense. As for Margaret, I do think she wants his help. Yes, he would be responsible for her debt. But Margaret is about to be out of a job, if she isn't already. Her firm is very worried about litigation by the widow Rothstien, and from what I could tell, they have no problem making Margaret the scape goat. Now, she is probably about to lose her place to live as well, since either the Mrs. AR either owns the building or the government does. So that means no more free rent. No more free rent + no more job = a pretty bad time for her. The minute Mrs. AR can show that Margaret did something financially odd....like signing the papers that her bosses brought up in her meeting, her goose is cooked. But more importantly, legal issues aside, Margaret does not want her name, in the press, linked to Nucky's, and Mrs. AR has made it very clear that she would be okay doing that. No matter if legally Nucky would owe her debt, once it gets to the point of a lawsuit, and becomes more public, Margaret becomes "wife of Enoch Thompson" and labelled in the same way Mrs. AR is by the press. And so, she wants Nucky to help her pay back the money before it becomes a lawsuit. And I'm sure...because its Margaret....that she would also like to act like a naggy shrew, guilt Nucky, and somehow get him to continue to fund her lifestyle. As far as Emily and Teddy as his kids, he doesn't even really know how old they are, so I think that it might have been more that he was trying to impress Kennedy, who he knew was a family man. I actually think he feels more like his nephew is his child.

I think a lot of it was just the makeup. I don't use Mary Kay, but every single time they have shown a model wearing the makeup it just looks awful. I don't think it translates well to TV, or they just don't have enough colors, or the colors aren't nuanced enough, mixed correctly, or are not pigmented enough so you have to put a crapload on before you see a color payoff. I think they are trying to go for a different demographic with their sponsorship of the show, but I'm not entirely sure that the market they are trying to capture will ever see their product as super high end. And frankly, there are a lot of other higher end makeup lines with a better pedigree, I just can't quite understand why Mary Kay is even trying to capture that market, because it is so oversaturated. And they certainly aren't going to convince anyone when their makeup always looks terrible. I just don't get it.

LOL, of course no women of color, of course not! Apparently there aren't any "real" women of color around. Oh no, you've got that all wrong. Korina is amazing, and everyone else is icky. Didn't you hear her clearly explain the situation of how her awesomeness is clearly eclipsing everyone else's in her TH? *commence eye roll...now* there was nothing worse than that first outfit. And I was 100% on Tim's side. Never, in all of my years of watching PR, through the good times and the bad, bad, bad times. Nothing has ever made me physically ill. Alexanders actually made me physically ill, it made my head hurt and it made me nauseous. Something not only about the clashing patterns/colors, but also about the shapes of the cutouts. I'm guessing that reaction is very rare, but I can see exactly where Tim was coming from, I couldn't even look at it without getting sick. Everytime I see a yellow houndstooth/plaid, I can only think of Cher from Clueless. But anything besides what he did would have been a vast improvement.

Olivia Pope: Her White Hat is Bigger Than Yours
RealityGal replied to Rhondinella's topic in Scandal [V]
I've only seen her in Scandal, and I have to disagree. I think she is just awful. She is a beautiful woman, she looks amazing in her clothing. But her acting is just terrible. She gives her character no depth, and even for a two dimensional character, she is a terrible actress. Just watching her drinking wine is enough to make me roll my eyes. I get it, you're getting strength from the wine, which is why you're holding it with two hands and gulping it down, but its so over the top that its not believable. And if you can't get simple things like that right what hope is there for you as an actress? The manic laugh at the start of season 3, WTF was she even trying to do there. That approach has been done successfully a thousand times, by actresses much more capable than her, so it can be done effectively, she just can't do it. And that was in Season 3, so she has had 2 seasons to figure out how to act, and at this point, the blame for her bad acting lays on her shoulders. I just think its sad to have a black female as the lead in a show like this. In a role that could be so interesting, and you choose the worst actress around. Especially when there are so many talented, beautiful black actresses -
And this is why I thought Kini should have won. Tim talked over and over about how important the "transformation" was, and how much of a transformation will it ever be if you just choose skinny, young models. Char's wasn't young per se, but she was skinny. Emily's dress was pretty, but how much of a transformation did she really give a woman with the body of a ballerina? Korina's was nice, but again, how much of a transformation did her outfit do for someone who already had a buff/toned body, and very few curves? Kini actually picked someone who had curves and some body fat and managed to make her look and feel good about herself. Yes, its something you could get at the Macy's, but so is Korina's, unless we haven't all seen every iteration of a motorcycle jacket done before. His jacket was a tiny bit off the mark, IMO, but the dress underneath was nice, and the jacket could have certainly been saved with maybe just another button or two. And IMO, the models must be working for free this season because half of them look like unsuccessful drag queens. I'm sure creative editing is the only reason we haven't seen a few adams apples bobbing around.

You know, it sort of reminds me of Top Chef. On that show there is always an opportunity to screw someone over by not letting them use your knife, or by not letting them use your ingredient that you have extra of, but that they forgot. And almost always, a contestant who has the upper hand in that respect will help the other contestant. It's almost like a pride thing where its like "I want to win, I don't just want you to lose" They want to show that they are the best chef, not that they simply won by default because someone else lost because they forgot to bring the butter. That is an excellent question. The makeup looked awful. I can't believe that this is them trying to convince me to buy their makeup. Maybe it just doesn't transfer well to TV. I know that a lot of higher end makeup like Makeup Forever, Stila, Smashbox and Urban Decay all have HD lines or makeup that is designed for photos/TV. I just don't get it with Mary Kay, the makeup consistently looks terrible. And its like they keep trying to convince us it looks good with the "pictures" of the models in the makeup. Sadly, I think I agree with you there. I have railed all season that this crop of designers was probably very talented, but they never had any time to design. But after seeing lackluster results on this challenge and on the avant garde challenge I think its just the designers. The only thing I can say is that earlier designers that had been eliminated when there were only one day challenges may have been better than we all knew because they had only had a day to design everything. I'm thinking particularly of Kristine. I would have loved to have seen Fade take on this challenge, because I think he knew how to work with patterns in a way that would have flattered a real woman. And was it just me, or did Amanda's model sort of look like Korina....

This episode.... 1. Korina - ugh, generally I would think editing could be the culprit, but after her asshole facebook post regarding Sandaya last week, I think this is just who she is. No one else is worthy to be there except her. Char, whom she was friendly with not even two weeks ago, is now public enemy number one. Everyone wants her jacket, and I wanted to hug Kini when he said "not me" which of course, she copped an attitude to. 2. Kini - I thought Kini should have won, hands down. Not only did his model look amazing, not only was he able to work with a style completely unlike his own, but I think he was the only one to pick a model with a real body, and real body issues and make her look amazing. Everyone else seemed to be on the hunt for someone with a model-like body (and Char's happiness over having a "real body" model, when hers had an amazing body, was laughable). Emily's dress was awesome, but her model was a dancer, and so she had an amazing body already, same with Korina's model. Kini's model had curves, and I thought that dress looked beautiful on her. 3. Emily - I agree with Zac, it was nice to have a beautiful look that didn't look like you could just buy it off the rack. Her piece was one of a kind, and the model clearly loved the ruffles. They always say "costumey" like its the kiss of death, but the PR runway has always been the place for statement outfits, in fact designers around the world put out basically unwearable clothing in their fashion shows. So I don't think its as important for the runway to be a place for ready to wear, ready for the store clothing. I think on a show like Fashion Star that was important, because they were going to be sold the next day, but the PR runway can be a place for clothing with drama, and dare I saw, a little costumey. I mean, I don't want anyone putting out a wonder woman leotard, but this wasn't even close to that, it was just a very dramatic look. 4. Char and Alexander - both, just awful, awful looks. And with two days? Just no. Alexanders first look was just awful, and good on Tim for saying something. I don't know how else he could have said it, because that shit was bad. And it concerns me that Alexander could not see it. It was one of those looks that almost made me nauseous. Giant polka dots in mustard yellow against a green pattern, and in those cut out shapes. Why? I don't even know why he chose those prints/patterns/colors at all. As for Char, her outfit, even with the zipper, was just awful. And was it just me, or was something odd about her model's walk, maybe she wasn't used to being in heels. Either way, Char's outfit was also something that made me question her taste level. I get red, but red on top of red? Why? It could have had a cool, graphic quality, if she had just contrasted it with another color, maybe a bright blue. And I'm almost never sure about rompers for adults. But that jacket she put over it was just all wrong, no matter what the color it was messy. I think she could have made her a dress, and even a short dress would have been better than that. I would have been fine with a double elimination.

Ugh, I agree, PR seems to be going out of their way to make her the person I hate the most, and that can only mean that she is going to win, and I will vow to not watch Season 14, and then will forget my vow around August. After her whole facebook post, I think that this is just who she is. And frankly, I'm not that impressed with her, or her outfit, I've seen a motorcycle jacket before, I will see one again, hers was cool, but nothing I want to make babies with, or in. And even if I was impressed with her, I wouldn't be half as impressed with her as she is with herself.

They could do a tie in with the Investigation Discovery Channel: "Stalked, Someone from Project Runway is Watching" Well, they would have to be in college, and in perfect shape, because it was super unfair that Ven got stuck with someone who didn't look perfect. Because, you know, fashion is really only for people with perfect bodies. That asshat.

Will Kenya get an apology? (S7 spoiler)
RealityGal replied to badbolocolo's topic in The Real Housewives Of Atlanta
As per CA, I would only say that it goes to show that the show is built around conflict. No matter what corner it comes from, no matter if its rational or not. And so, it requires a bad guy, and a hero. In order to have the Arsenio, you need the Aubrey (although, I personally found her insufferable). I think if you had a cast full of reasonably, relatively happy people the show would flame out because there would be no conflict, which is essential to the show. As for Kenya, if I took her serious, I would probably get annoyed with her, but I see her as a character. But I also think that if I had to watch a show that was just Cynthia and Kandi, I would be bored. Or Mama Joyce would have to be a more featured character, which would then make her the villain, and I find her less interesting than Kenya, and I also think Mama Joyce is probably crazy. Watching happy, sane, rational people interact is something I can simply watch in every day life. I want to watch a reality TV show to see drama and conflict and the interpersonal relationships. The reason I prefer Kenya to Nene, is because 90% of the time, I think whatever Kenya does, she does with a wink and a nod, and an eye to playing an over the top villaness (spelling!). On the other hand, I think Nene is dead serious when she is being a self congratulating bitch, I think what you see on camera is probably exactly who she is. So, for that reason, I don't really group Nene and Kenya together. I think its the reason that Kenya is one of the few villains that I actually like, because I don't think she is serious, and when she is serious, she is often making an intelligent point that is right on the mark. Even when she is throwing shade, a lot of the times I find it amusing, when Nene throws shade, not only is it generally not particularly funny, it is always just so viciously mean and personal and truly below the belt, like picking on Cynthia's daughter and basically calling out all little girls as sluts. As for L. Lampenelli, I think the fact that they only chose to show her in melt down mode towards whomever the model was was telling of her edit. From what little I could gather from the TH L. Lampenelli gave, she would do a ton of work, and then Dayanra (?) would show up with some off the wall idea at the last minute that would render the work L. Lampenelli did useless, and couldn't be executed. And the ideas weren't particularly well thought out, even though some of them, in their raw form were good ideas. But if you come up with all these half baked ideas at the last minute and then keep insisting on them, I could see where someone might think that its a strategy to stay off the chopping block. Like, if the team loses, you can always just say "well Mr. Trump, my idea was x and everyone just kept shooting it down, so its not my fault we lost." Which would mean that someone, who maybe didn't do a lot of work escapes the chopping block just by covering all their bases in bringing up wild ideas at the last minute. If I were someone that was putting my heart and soul into every task, I would probably be a little annoyed by that, although I agree there is no excuse, if I remember some of the ways L. Lampenelli went off, but showing what may have led her to the point of feeling like she just had to blow up might have been a more fair edit. I'm now always suspicious when one person claims that someone just went off on them "for no reason whatsoever at all." Because chances are, if you talked to the other person, you would find out that there was generally something that triggered them, unless they are truly mentally disturbed.
