  1. Weddings do not have to be conventional though. A lot of wedding venues offer dessert tables. We skipped it because we were having plenty of food, and often by the time the dessert and cake comes out, people are full and concentrating on socializing and dancing.
  2. Sending healing thoughts your way @ButterQueen - I lost my mom in 2016. Sometimes tv therapy is just what's needed to take us out of our heads and laugh for a bit.
  3. Val is awful but I've accepted who she is and I just roll with the crazy. She was much less annoying in this ep than in past ones, at least. I cracked up when it turned out to be her on the car. The Larry storyline was well-played by all. Jack was indeed a delight throughtout the whole episode. I agree about those kitchen scenes! Sometimes they do whisper, but other times the voices do seem loud enough that there is no way people in the living room can't hear. Then again, if the people in the living room are talking amongst themselves, they may not even being paying attention to conversation in another area. I've had conversations in the same room with others also conversing and they didn't hear what we said and vice versa.
  4. OMG that's hilarious! I have to give props to Molly Shannon for holding it together as Sean and Meg lost it.
  5. Well, their relationship is kind of depressing, but there are movies I won't go see and movies my husband won't go see, so that is not an issue in and of itself. This is another example of how this family can't win - Meri gets picked on for the perceived idea that she doesn't spend time with the family, then gets critisized for "using" family members to get what she wants - oy! It sounds like Meri wanted to see that movie.
  6. No such thing as too much frosting! :D Also, if you're eating a cinnamon bun, my guess is you aren't too worried about your blood sugar to begin with. I try not to do it, though I'm not really superstitious. But I figure, better safe than sorry, lol. I was in a thrift store yesterday where a woman opened up an umbrella to check it out, so it appears some people are unfazed.
  7. The problem is, Scientology isn't a religion and doesn't just "have a dark side". It is an evil, destructive cult that is based on greed and intimidation. It was created by a nutjob science fiction writer, whose "teachings" are complete and utter nonsense, not to mention misogynistic, homophobic, and abusive. Its current leader is a violent, abusive man, and again, a nutjob. I've read and seen a lot about the subject, including every episode of Leah Remini's show Scientology and the Aftermath. How anyone with half a brain and half a conscience could be a member of this hideous organization is far beyond my comprehension. I came on this forum because ads for the show with EM's face keep popping up on my screen, and it made me curious to see if her connection to Scientology had been mentioned. It took me a few minutes. I come on this site and look at many different forums as a way to wind down, as I'm sure many people do. The show looks interesting - it may or may not be something I would enjoy, but my instinct tells me I would like it and appreciate the skill and talent that goes into making it. But as I said in my first post, the palpable irony of the star of a show about a dystopian future where women are oppressed and treated like baby-making machines being a member in good standing of an oppressive, greedy, fraudulent, disgusting cult is too much. I truly hope she opens her eyes, and soon.
  8. This especially I found ridiculous. I can understand if that's the way your family is when they are invited to a family picnic or other informal occasion, but a wedding is a whole other story. A wedding invitation should spell out exactly who's invited, and your best friend's second cousin who's in town for the weekend is most likely NOT on the guest list. Showing up at a wedding with people who were not invited is rude AF. And your last line pretty much says it all.
  9. Totally agree about baking - one wrong move can make the whole thing a flop.
  10. I have to admit I laughed a lot during the episode that was his last appearance. But yeah, his character was superfluous.
  11. I understand why everyone is telling Meri to cut and run, but it's not that simple, if you think about it. If she tries to take her money out of the family coffers, she is basically cutting her ties to the family completely. They have an agreement and a commitment to each other, and to the family as a whole. Whether we agree with it or not, that's the way it is. Meri would have to think long and hard about what taking her money and leaving the family would mean. In fact, I'm sure she has thought about it, a lot. And the benefits of staying outweigh the risks, at least for now.
  12. Wow, that's cool! I'm from Connecticut and had never even heard of Marblehead before I started doing research for our honeymoon. We knew we were going to do Salem, but wanted a few days at a smaller town as well. Marblehead and Harbor Light were exactly what I was looking for - a quaint inn located in a picturesque town, 15 minutes from Salem - I'd go back in a heartbeat!
  13. The Harbor Light Inn, Marblehead - a wonderful inn, and what a beautiful historic town! We spent four nights there, then stayed at the Salem Waterfront Hotel in Salem for six nights - it was my dream honeymoon!
  14. I caught sight of Aurora and Dayton in family scenes, and I thought I noticed Paedon helping to clean up in the kitchen after the dinner with Tony's family. What a good kid!
  15. B & B's are too intimate for my taste. I prefer a larger inn, which can be a great compromise between a B & B and a chain hotel. On our honeymoon we stayed at an amazing place in Massachusetts that combined the best qualities of both - 21 rooms with private baths, daily maid service, great buffet-style Continental breakfast with a large dining table but also separate smaller tables. Always someone at the check-in, but staff was discreet. The decor was that of a quaint harborside inn, with common sitting rooms, etc, but with the amenites of a larger hotel. I loved it.
  16. Christine has always been my favorite too, and Robyn is my other favorite now. She has grown and it is obvious to me that she has Kody's number and knows how to handle him. I like that Christine and Robin have become close.
  17. Hahaha, yes those are the ones that give Continental breakfasts a bad name!
  18. Some people don't mind driving to attractions, but I agree with you 100% - I want to park my car and not need it again until it's time to check out. different types of vacations, I guess, but it would still be an advantage to have at least something to do nearby.
  19. I prefer to stay at larger inns with more amenities, but if BnB's are one's thing, this place looks adorable. I've certainly seen much worse online, and for more money. Each room having its own bathroom is a plus too - many BnBs have shared bathrooms!
  20. Yes Meri was soooo indecisive. Either you want it or you don't. It seemed like she was waiting for Kody to take the lead, or she wanted him to be more excited about it, or something. I just remember those scenes seemed to go on forever.
  21. I agree, some Continental breakfasts are delicious and more than enough - but some are dreadful, prepackaged crap. For our honeymoon we stayed at an inn that served a Continental breakfast, but it was quite a spread - bagels and cream cheese, muffins, cinnamon rolls, fresh fruit, egg casserole, toast, waffles, cereal, juices, coffee - it was delicious. They also had cookies and lemonade in the afternoon and wine and cheese in the evening.
  22. My husband and I did not do the "cut the cake" thing. No garter or bouquet-throwing either.
  23. Yeah that was quite interesting - I wonder if it's just for the show?
