He's a fan and a friend of LZ, so I'd go with homage.

I know - quoting yourself will cause blindness... I just saw the one where Mark Hamill starts by telling us whatever he's going to eat, and this one also used a local Asian restaurant. I'm curious as to whether Uber Eats is doing this all over the country, and whether the local restaurants have to pony up cash for it. It won't make me ever use Uber Eats, but I like the concept. And it helps that the actors are so damn charming.

This will be up until Thursday. I thought it was very well done.

I just saw the 3rd Mark Hamill-Patrick Stewart Uber Eats commercial that starts with *Sir* Patrick telling us he'll be having chicken tikka masala with garlic naan (yummmmmm), except instead of that, he said steak frites from a local (to me) French bistro. Did they do a bunch of these with local places edited in? I thought it was kinda cool.

Agree it was livelier and more energetic. I loved the cold open, and the Sam Adams sketch was good. Also enjoyed WU. However, the rest wasn't really reaching me. I don't know Bill Burr and I'm not really sorry about that. I probably won't be seeking him out. However, I will be watching the Raconteurs episode I have recorded from Austin City Limits momentarily ( second half was Black Pumas - also love them!). Did I mention how much I love Jack White? 🙂

If I could like this post eleventy billion times, I would. I love Jack White!!!

From the shallow end - I think Jon Batiste looks quite fine in the yellow tank top. And... Hanoi vey! 😄 -

I've loved Ain't Misbehavin' since I saw the original cast on Broadway, way back in the stone age. I've been playing the cast recording on a loop for the past 2 years (mixed in with Hamilton). This news is so very sad. She was a remarkable talent. -

Two more small observations about the cold open (since I'm actually awake now and haven't started drinking...yet): I was disappointed in Maya's Kamala because she was portrayed as the "cool aunt" during the primaries and last night she was more of the schoolteacher scold. But, I did love the little smile from Alec during "Live from New York" - I don't recall him breaking out in a genuine smile before since he hates the "character" so much. -

And I think that's what made me feel a little ... icky ... about it. I just don't feel like this fits in at this point. I did think Jim Carrey was really good as Biden, but the sketch seemed to pause a lot. Maybe the cue cards weren't changing fast enough. I also thought most of the news jokes on Update were great. There were parts of the show that worked really well and parts that didn't. Lots of commercials and the show ending with the musical guest was a little weird. I did enjoy Megan Thee Stallion. It really seems like they just need time to get back in the rhythm of the show. I'm really glad the show is back and hope things smooth out. Oh, and I loved Kate / RBG. Lovely moment -

That would be hard to match. However, it did end strong. -
Well, the season here is over. It was better than I had any right to expect. Which isn't saying much, but still...

The whole part about leaving the suitcase behind made me think he wanted to hide something there for you to "smuggle" home. But that really does sound far-fetched. It is a shame you could never ask him about it, because I'm really curious now 🙂 I'm glad you because close later on.

OMG, this means I will have to become a fan of Kasie's. I'm not sure I have that in me.

Maybe because the Ed Sullivan Theatre is huge compared to the small studios that Jimmy and Seth use. And since it's only Stephen - no band and guests still remote - it wasn't going to work in the actual theatre. At least he's not in the tiny room at home anymore. I know Conan is filming at a small theatre in LA. I don't know what Kimmel is doing since his return. ETA: I don't know this for sure. I'm just wildly speculating. Because...why not.- 746 replies

Commercials That Annoy, Irritate or Outright Enrage
ebk57 replied to Maverick's topic in Commercials
I can't really decide if this should go in the "Say What" thread, but it annoys me more than it puzzles me... The Nissan Sentra commercial where the woman is told by her boss that she won't be getting a raise. The car pulls up and they go on a ride where she is convinced not to compromise because the car doesn't compromise (or something). I get the "don't compromise" part, but really, buying a car and not getting a raise aren't even on the same planet. How does this car help her get a raise??? (unless she's supposed to run over her boss with it... hmmmm.....) I'm irrationally annoyed by this. I do admit to laughing at the "drop the taco, get in the car" line. But I'm still annoyed.
