  1. A friend sent that to me and I totally did not recognize him.
  2. I came "this" close to getting tickets to the Kennedy Center Honors when Dave and Zep were honored. I'm still scarred by it since it was kinda my own fault. And now Dave is here again. I know there was no way I could have known, but still...I'm disappointed. And yes, I think the show will air earlier than next year. The Honors are on right after Christmas and this one goes first.
  3. In addition to not being able to get tickets to the Mark Twain awards (if I'd known Dave would be there, I would have tried earlier!), I also can't get tickets to the interview Dave is doing at The New Yorker Festival next month. Honestly, I had no idea The New Yorker threw a festival. I'll have to look into next year's at an earlier date. http://festival.newyorker.com/calendar/
  4. Tony Kornheiser has officially taken his radio show to podcast. It's some sports, some politics, some pop culture, and a lot of an old, guy kvetching. It's the radio show that led me to internet message boards...for better or worse. http://www.tonykornheisershow.com/ Listen via the website, iTunes, GooglePlay and anywhere podcasts are sold (or not).

Wow. A game in under 3 hours at Fenway. And we won! Os and Nats won 1-0. @jennifer6973, I'm not an Astros fan, but I think they said it was "dangerous" or something like that. I like it , too, but maybe people were getting hurt because they weren't paying attention.
  6. This commercial seriously makes me stabby. I don't even know how to describe the effect they use of the many images of the woman going through her day, then merging back into bed. She's annoying. The song use annoys me here. Which annoys me because I like the song. And I love the mattress. But I hate the commercial. I've been trying to decide whether to post my annoyance in this thread or the "Say What" thread, because I really don't understand the point of the whole thing. But I'll piggyback on your annoyance and post here. I really don't like this commercial.
  7. They make good beer. Glad they weren't on her good side. After reading her obit in the NYT today, I came to the conclusion that she was a troll before the internet. What a hypocrite she was. And that's the nicest word I can use to describe her.
  8. Thanks so much. I will definitely look these up!

Some sucker - I mean some wonderful baseball fan - bought the ticket. So I don't have to acknowledge the stranger next to me. As for the first part, no comment.
  11. I meant songs not necessarily on the most well known list for Gershwin, ones that I don't hear all that often like Fidgety Feet and Liza. And one I've never heard - For you, For Me, For Evermore. Which reminds me of the one complaint I had. As much as I love Liza, I felt it was really shoehorned into the show. I wasn't feeling the Lise to Liza thing. I did love hearing the orchestral numbers that one doesn't hear in musicals - Concerto in F, Second Prelude and Second Rhapsody/Cuban Overture. I adore Gershwin. (And I hope not knowing For You, For Me doesn't get me thrown out of the club)

I have an extra ticket for tomorrow's O's/Yankees game. If anyone is around (and there are no suckers on StubHub)...
  13. So, here goes (Really, I almost feel like this is homework. I'm a terrible writer, so I procrastinate. And then procrastinate more. I'll try to be brief) American in Paris: Loved it. Totally. It seemed way darker than the movie and that appealed to me. I thought both leads were gone, but was pleasantly surprised to see Leanne Cope as Lise. Also loved that there were more deep-cut songs in the show. And the dancing - divine!! Hadn't been to The Palace in a while. It's a great theatre. Curious Incident: Loved it. The staging is amazing. And the acting was spectacular. So glad we got to see it in NY. It's coming to DC next year, but for some inexplicable reason, they're going into the Opera House (at the Kennedy Center) instead of the Ike. The Opera House is awful. Simply awful. Which is why we made it a point to see it last week. Beautiful play. Late Show with Stephen Colbert: A fun time was had by all. If you care, I posted about it in the show thread. Coney Island and the Cyclones: Had a fabulous day at the beach! And the baseball was...short season A ball. But I got a new bobblehead for my far-too-large collection. And I found out you can go somewhere in NY on the subway that takes over an hour. I was amazed. Hamilton: Did I mention I could die now? It's truly everything it's cracked up to be. To find a couple of flaws... I wan't crazy about Lexi Lawson. I don't think she has the acting chops or the vocals for the part. I know she's had issues lately and missed a bunch of shows. Hopefully it's just a matter of settling in. I also thought that Jevon McFerrin was fine, but nothing to write home about. I did read later that it was his first time on as Lafayette/Jefferson, so maybe nerves. That said, I can't wait to see it again in February!! (I guess I can't die until February now...) Oh, the next day, we went to the NY Historical Society, and what did they have in the gift shop - a Hamilton bobblehead! So yes, I brought home 2 new 'heads!! Dinner at Keen's was, as usual, flawless (and a great birthday dinner for me!) Fun Home: I so wanted to love this show. Honestly. The production is wonderful. The acting is wonderful. I can see that the story is very touching and real. But I just didn't connect with it. And I don't know why. And it upsets me. A friend I talked to afterwards said the same thing. He told me when he saw it a second time, he totally got it. Maybe when it comes to DC, I'll give it another go. Yankees/O's - the less said about that game, the better. That's the trip report. Hope it wasn't too long and boring.
  14. Nice of the Terps to let Howard score in the 4th quarter... Too bad this has nothing to do with whether they will be any good this season.
  15. Possibly in later seasons they based the storylines (such as they were) on the Weiner scandals, but the show premiered in 2009. Weiner didn't blow up until 2011. I'd go with the original inspiration coming from the Spitzers. And honestly, with the way the show played out, they should have stuck with the Spitzers.

Don't go crazy now. Even a stopped clock blah, blah, blah... :-) I just put my deposit down on my postseason tickets. If worse come to worse, I've paid for next season already.

Thanks for the sentiment. I keep thinking of all the money I'll save by not buying postseason tickets. Dammit.

Who thought it would be a good idea to go to Yankee Stadium tonight? Because it wasn't. Although the weather was lovely.
  22. That's the Thunderbolt in the picture. One of the rides that has you going upside down. No thanks. Coney Island is a lovely place to spend a day. A weekday. I don't think I'd like to be there on a weekend. It still amazes me one can travel on the subway for an hour+ and still be in NYC.
  23. Saw Hamilton. I can die now (I promise I'll write more about the shows later. Promise)
