In Memoriam: Entertainment Industry Celebrity Deaths

RIP Frank Deford He did his last commentary on NPR just a few weeks ago. A shame he couldn't enjoy retirement for very long. -
In Memoriam: Those We Have Lost from the Music Industry
ebk57 replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in Music
Mr ebk mentioned that it was remarkable that he made it to 69. I know he's been in poor health for the past couple of years. Thanks for all the great music, Gregg! -
I just said to Mr ebk that it's National Wine Day - I'm pouring myself a glass. And he said "so what do you call the rest of the days you do that". I guess I call them days ending in Y... L'Chaim everyone!!

I've kinda been meh about the whole thing. Until now. This finale is awful Really, really, really awful. On the plus side, Mr. ebk didn't hate it. I guess that's a plus.

Okay - this is unforgivable... a pastrami sandwich with mayo??? Never!!!

So far Debra Messing is the best thing in this. I love her You Can't Take That Away From Me. I don't love the orange lipstick she's wearing though. Almost makes her look like a blow-up doll...

I think it's helping me get through it because I really don't have any strong feelings about the original. It's a fun movie that I first saw on a plane on the way to Kenya, which I thought was perfect. So while this isn't great so far, I don't hate it. Also, Mr ebk never saw the original. So he can develop his own, original hate for this one...

I did like Debra Messing telling her husband to go on back to the room during Fever. She wasn't about to leave.

This is also the moment in the movie that I really noticed her English accent - as she walks up the stairs she says "The doctor's not coming. Nobody is coming." (or close to that) Thanks for pointing out something else to look for there.

More Dave! From the GQ June Comedy Issue: http://www.gq.com/story/david-letterman-interview-2017?ncid=edlinkushpmg00000313 I only listened to the end of Apron Stings this morning (I'm going to listen to the whole thing shortly), and I actually teared up in the car. I really miss Dave.

Sir Ian was at my humble theatre way back about 30 years ago (oy vey) doing his one-man show "Acting Shakespeare". He couldn't have been nicer. We especially like to recall how he talked to any and all of the kids who came to see the show (with school groups) for as long as they wanted to chat. A lovely man.

If you have the XM radio, tune in to hear Dave and Paul on Elizabeth Cook's Apron Strings on Wednesday!! I love her show. Really looking forward to this! http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/david-letterman-and-paul-shaffer-co-host-apron-strings-on-siriusxms-outlaw-country-with-elizabeth-cook-300461359.html

I'm fairly certain that I've said this here (maybe in the Grammy thread...) - Bruno Mars makes everything better. Everything. -

Cher is totally an icon. I saw Sonny and Cher at Shady Grove Music Fair (in the round) waaaaay back in the day. She's a force of nature. -

I realize no one who is sane is watching this (I have guests), but really, the woman with The Chainsmokers - can you just put on a shirt or something over your bra? I hate to judge... okay, not really... -
S42.E21: Dwayne Johnson / Katy Perry
ebk57 replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in Saturday Night Live
Overall, I enjoyed this episode. Loved Tom Hanks and Scarlett dropping in. Can't go wrong with David S. Pumpkins - ever!! It was great seeing Vanessa and Bobby used in so many sketches tonight. And I liked Katy Perry. I think the movie skit and the bar pick-up skit were my least favorites. Can we just install Johnson - Hanks in office right now? Please?? Pretty good season. Thanks to @Galileo908 for your wonderful, instant recaps every week!! -
This is my thought. It's fine to be open and share and all that. But if he's "in love" with you before you've even met...don't bother to meet. Really. That's worrisome.

Dave is getting the Mark Twain Award from the Kennedy Center! I must figure out a way to get a ticket... https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/arts-and-entertainment/wp/2017/05/16/david-letterman-to-receive-mark-twain-prize-for-american-humor/?hpid=hp_hp-more-top-stories_letterman-1215pm%3Ahomepage%2Fstory&utm_term=.38be7aef4108

This is exactly how I feel about this episode. Thanks for doing all the writing for me!

I went to the game last night. After many ups and downs, the end was really exciting!! I hope I get to go to a game or 2 in the next round...

Choking Dogs, baby. Always Choking Dogs...

Well, that was...pretty pointless. Although I did like the Cubs organist playing "Tomorrow" at midnight.

Chris Tillman made his first start of the season today. He walked 2 in the first. It took him about a million pitches to get out of the second. I was sure I'd be at the ballpark until tomorrow. Fortunately, we scored some runs. And the game actual sped up as it went on - exactly the opposite of normal. We even made it on time for our dinner reservation!
