  1. Went to a favorite place in Baltimore that will be closing soon (Jack's Bistro in Canton). We had guacamole and chips, then I had the braised short rib ravioli and my friend had the bistro crab cake. For dessert, we had the affogato made with salted caramel gelato, butterscotch sauce and espresso...AND the bread pudding, also with the salted caramel gelato and chocolate sauce. Because they're closing soon, so we had to!! We had a lovely bottle of rose (half price wine every night before 6pm!) I'll never eat again...
  2. A few years ago, someone bought the Roy's name and recipes and opened some in the area. Fortunately, (or not, depending on one's view on healthy eating), one of them is a mere 4 miles from my house! I try to keep my fried chicken intake at twice a year at most. So far, so good (this being my first foray of 2017). I've always said I'd like my last meal to be Popeye's spicy chicken with a biscuit and fries.
  3. Went to see Falsettos at the movies this afternoon, so on the way home, I stopped at Roy Roger's and got me some fried chicken. So damn good... The show is also damn good. The things I get into when Mr ebk is out of town :-)

I was gonna be really excited because the long 2 day nightmare was over. However, it looks like my long 2nd half season nightmare has just begun. Ah well...
  5. Right now, I'm enjoying a lovely French Rose while I wait out a horrendous downpour. It could be worse ...
  6. Those Boiling The Frog episodes with Senator Franken were gold! And, it looks like Norm McDonald has a show - who knew? It's on YouTube. And Dave will be on in a couple of weeks!! http://www.cinemablend.com/television/1680150/watch-david-letterman-get-interviewed-by-norm-macdonald-for-a-change
  7. OMG, Chicago! Take as many Architecture Foundation tours as you can (I mean as long as they interest you). I love everything they do! Eat at The Purple Pig, and the The Publican, and The Gage, and The Girl and the Goat. And have pizza somewhere. And I'll think of more places. Go to Wrigley Field. If you don't like baseball (sacrilege!), you can take a tour. I think...the last time I was there they were doing off-season construction so there were no tours. Do you like beer? Go to Revolution Brewing. (If you do like beer, I'll think of more places) The Art Institute is fantastic. That's more than enough reason to go. This was just off the top of my head. I'll search out more places that I've been. Have fun!
  8. I'm going Saturday afternoon. Really looking forward to it.
  9. I liked this post not because I'm a Wicked fan, but because I'm not an ALW fan :-)
  10. It was, but was also a huge hit to the Merlot market and the Merlot prestige. I love Merlot and feel it was unfairly maligned in the film. I also thought the main character was a total douche and didn't like the movie much. Watching it on a plane may have had something to do with that, but I've not felt the need to watch it again.
  11. Another interview on The Bullseye with Terry. I learned a few things about him that I didn't know before. I didn't listen to the interview posted upthread from a few years ago and haven't read his book, but now I might. He's quite an interesting person. http://www.maximumfun.org/bullseye/bullseye-jesse-thorn-terry-crews-and-amber-tamblyn The Amber Tamblyn interview is pretty good, too.

This - it's so incredibly bland. And expensive. And the ushers are nasty. And... I'll stop now. I'm just glad I spend my baseball time at Camden Yards. Regarding PNC Park and Pittsburgh, I agree with all the good things said here. The park is my favorite of the new parks and the city is lovely with lots of good places to eat. I don't mind at all going when Mr ebk has convention weekend there. The HR Derby has always just been fun background noise here.

Went to the Nats game today. First time I've been there in 2 seasons. The park hasn't changed. Ah well... At least they won. And the weather was perfect!
  14. Corn on the cob (noticeably better than earlier in the week!), green beans and leftover... tri tip (you thought I was gonna say flank steak, didn't you?) Finished the white Bordeaux. It was quite lovely. I hope I can find it again.
  15. Oh, one more thing I loved - cemetery tours! We wandered around the cemetery that's across from Commander's Palace (Lafayette?) one afternoon. Then, while Mr ebk was working, I took a tour of Saint Louis 1 and 2 near the Quarter. I used Save Our Cemeteries since they plow the funds into actually saving the cemeteries instead of profit. It was a lovely tour!
  16. @Bastet, we were in NOLA in January and I went to the Southern Food & Beverage Museum. It's a huge room with exhibits of food from each of the southern states and also has a corner devoted to absinthe. The in-house restaurant is Toups South and I really enjoyed lunch there. You can also go in when you get there and buy a drink to walk around with while you're browsing the exhibits. All in all, a fun way to spent a couple of hours. I mention it because I think it's kinda new so it may not have been there when you were last in the city. Don't know if your parents are into it, but the WWII Museum is quite impressive. That does require a chunk of time to set aside. Other than the traditional places to eat, we did stop in for drinks and apps at August. We'd like to go for a meal the next time we're in town.
  17. I also enjoyed "Every Little Step". (I must confess though, that as I scrolled down the page and saw A Chorus Line in bold, I thought you were recommending the movie of A Chorus Line. Ugh...)
  18. Went to a favorite Latin restaurant tonight (Samantha's in Takoma Park for any DC area folks). Had a cheese pupusa to start, then the chicken enchiladas. I brought home enough to eat for lunch and dinner tomorrow. As I often say in these instances... I'll never eat again! (well, until I hit the leftovers tomorrow) And yes, there was wine.

Mussina was not a baseball crush, but I did love him being an Oriole. If I'd had a poster of him on my wall, I'd have ripped it off, too, when he went north. As far as Bucky Fucking Dent, I'm sure I've mentioned that my sister voted for him on an All Star ballot once because she thought he had a cute butt. I guess everyone's definition of All Star is different.

Boog used to say that he really appreciated it when the fans would clearly enunciate the G at the end of Boog...
  21. I always hated olives until I visited my brother in Italy and had some. I'm a convert! I suggest olive-haters go to Italy and try them because everything tastes better there!! And if that doesn't work, at least you're in Italy :-)
  22. Leftover sauteed flank steak (do you sense a pattern here?) and fresh corn on the cob. The corn is getting better with each stop at the produce stand. All washed down with a lovely White Bordeaux.

This goes all the way back to the '60s... Boooooooooog Powell anyone? And it's nice that he's still around feeding us overpriced pit beef at games! He's really quite nice and will sign anything and pose for pictures whenever he's there overseeing the product.

So people can flee the downtown area before it gets crazy. I know I'd appreciate that if ever I was foolish enough to actually attend anything downtown on July 4th.
  25. About the time this thread started, I got my monthly magazine from the Baseball Hall of Fame, and this movie was the cover story. I tried to go and get the link online, but it wasn't up yet. Now it is. http://baseballhall.org/discover/25-years-after-a-league-of-their-own Interesting and fun reading about the exhibits in the HoF and about the movie itself.
