  1. I really hope they win. It seems like the clear favorites (at least quality wise) is Bob's Burgers and Rick & Morty. And while I am a fan of both, I feel V for Valentine-detta was a stronger episode than Pickle Rick.
  2. I never really understood why Pop Team Epic did the repeating thing. It may have been a network thing, but there are Anime that are just 10 min including Space Ship Tiramisu which just finished airing (so its not just older shows). But I think what hurts it the most is the double episodes. If you didn't care for the first 10 min or so, then there's no reasons to watch the rest. And even if you like the first half, seeing the same skits repeated isn't going to be as funny the second time around. It also makes little sense to show this on Toonami. Toonami is almost exclusively action cartoons so a comedy show makes little sense.
  3. It seems like a few may become police officers. I'd hope to see an Iron man or Batman like character eventually but the show doesn't seem all that interested in those types yet (especially as the focus is mostly on UA). So we're entering the final arc of season 1 (season 1 only had 12 episodes, the rest of the seasons are significantly longer). I kind of wish we would have seen a few more of the student's training sessions but they'll get their turn eventually.
  4. So I was right. Looking forward to it. This season wasn't my favorite but when it was good it was good. So I'm looking forward to a nice change of pace.
  5. Pop Team Epic does have its moments but they are few and far between. Also repeating the same gag but with new VO makes it even worse. They really should have gone with something else. It looks like we have 1 episode left of FLCL and JoJo has 6 episodes. FLCL season 3 seemingly isn't airing until September so I have no idea what's going to replace it (unless they just repeat this season). I assume we'll be getting the next season of JoJo (which is currently the last one produced).
  6. Adam Reed is leaving after this upcoming season (the one in space). There's nothing about the show continuing past that point, just that it would be possible and it would be without Reed. I guess he could come in and record some lines if they do a season 11 but I kind of doubt it.
  7. New season September 14th. https://news.avclub.com/saddle-up-for-a-new-season-of-bojack-horseman-this-sept-1827176596
  8. Allan McLeod (Paul) is currently in a Progressive insurance commercial. A while back I also saw Todd Robert Anderson (Vernon) in a couple commercials too (I can't recall what they were for though).
  9. On that topic, what is up with the CGI on DC movies. Wonder Woman's was pretty bad and from what I've read/seen the other movies aren't any better. Meanwhile, Marvel seems to have little trouble getting out good CGI. Is WB's in house department just not very good, are they just tighter with budgeting these things, do they not get enough time or what? Looking into Justice League, one of the Vfx companies is Scanline which apparently worked on Iron Man 3 and The Avengers. Rodeo Fx also worked on JL as well as Thor 3, Black Panther and Deadpool. So it seems like it's not the Vfx company being crap. It seems more like mismanagement of time or money.
  10. That interview is nuts. Who would have thought that making quality movies was the way to go (the answer is everyone), what a radical idea. Also it sounds like Aquaman is in trouble. It seems like the Vfx may not be ready or good by the time the movie is supposed to come out.
  11. I have to say I'm surprised Deku came in last. I'd think after his training whit All-Might, he'd at least be more fit than Invisible Girl. That said, it was a good way of showing how difficult things are going to be for Deku. This week things start in earnest and we start seeing one of the things the show does really well, pairing off students and giving at least a small spotlight to those characters.
  12. We also got similar shots in Dragon Ball Z during the Buu arc.
  13. There are so many good shows they can choose from. Mob Psycho 10 is less than a year old and only 12 episodes. Psycho Pass isn't that old and has 33 episodes. Assassination Classroom isn't that old either although it does have 47 episodes. For older stuff there's The Devil is a Part Timer which is only 13 episodes. There's also original Dragon Ball or YuYu Hakusho or Slayers for longer running stuff. Scrapped Princess is shorter but pretty good. All of which are already dubbed. I'm hoping they're just waiting for some of the new shows to finish up, Hinamatsuri is a great show having both comedy and heart but it is sort of a slice of life (it's reminds me a lot of the relationship between 11 and the Sheriff on Stranger Things, just minus the people out for her and all the other drama). Both Lupin III: Part V and Megalobox seem just up Toonami's alley but havn't finished up yet.
  14. I find it odd how many new stories act as though the dusted heroes are gone for good. The movie even shows using the time gem to undo a death. It seems pretty obvious to me that Black Panther and especially Spider-man are coming back. Also, I understand being upset at Quill for attacking Thanos but there was no way that plan would have actually worked. We even see that Thanos can just call the glove back to him (I mean it was made by the same people who made Thor's hammer which can do the same). I don't think that he was only able to do that because like 10% of the glove was still on him. So in that case, they'd have like seconds (since Mantis was already have trouble keeping him under) to actually kill him. A killing blow probably wouldn't have been enough seeing as how he has the reality gem and power gem at the time (either one could probably heal him as seen when Thor's axe didn't kill him). He'd actually have to be brain dead and that was unlikely to happen in that time frame.
  15. So, Pop Team Epic is arriving at the end of the month. It'll be taking over for Dragon Ball Z Kai but it'll air at midnight (My Hero and FLCL will fill the earlier spots). The show isn't great but there are only 12 episodes. So they're airing the half hour version which I don't think is a good idea. The show is effectively 10 min of mini segments (think Robot Chicken) which are not all that funny for the most part. The other thing they do, which is how we get a half hour program, is they effectively show the episode twice. Once with male voice actors and once with female voice actors and besides using different voice actors there are few if any differences between the two halves (they do use a new voice cast every episode so there are a lot of recognizable voices). I watched the first 7 or 8 episodes dubbed. I kept hoping it would get better but the only interesting thing they did was Hellshake Yano (which to be fair was really neat but you can look it up on YouTube as what makes it neat is the visuals they use). I didn't watch both halves, just the first one to come on (which almost always was the female voice actors) so what I know of the lack of differences comes from people I know who watched both halves.
  16. I liked the Phantom Troupe mini-arc especially as we finally got to see their powers (YorkNew City we only saw a few) which were neat.
  17. The funny thing is, this'll be Johns second Green Lantern movie. He was a writer and producer for the original (and I believe he was fairly involved with that movie). I can't see this one going much better with him at the helm.
  18. Season 3 has been canceled. http://tvline.com/2018/06/09/people-of-earth-cancelled-no-season-3-tbs/
  19. Or an Ironman. Apparently the original idea was an older Midoriya (in his 20's I believe) and fought crime using tech since he didn't have a quirk. Also a lot of the locations are based on Star Wars like Dagoba Beach where Midoriya trained. I really like that they showed a buff Midoriya at the end of the training session. It makes it clear that he really trained hard to get where he is. Also him randomly using dumbbells while waiting for the letter from UA.
  20. So this episode is the real start of the series. I totally forgot how slow the first three episodes were (I watched them on Funimation's site last year so I probably just binge watched the first handful of episodes). I was glad to see Ochako get some rescue points as well since she really saved Deku's ass. Recovery Girl is a fun character. Also I loved All-Might's hologram especially the "how many more of these do I need to do" which I'd say is straight from Captain America in Spiderman: Homecoming but this came out first (by a good year). That said, I wonder how some of the people with non-combat related quirks get in since this portion of the exam seems so combat focused. I guess for them the written exam probably matters more (Deku barely passed so it makes sense he'd need to do well in the combat portion). Also apparently U.A. doesn't stand for anything. But when written out in Kanji (yuuei) it is hero spelled backwards (eiyuu). http://kansaichick.com/japanese-kanji-blog/the-true-meaning-of-ua-high-school-for-my-hero-academia/
  21. I just re-watched the movie since it was on one of the movie channels and I forgot how good it was. They did a great job with all the characters and they even threw in a few classic Spiderman moments. It's really hard to rank the later Marvel Movies since so many of them have been great but this is easily towards the top (it's really hard to beat Infinity War and Black Panther, a movie I've been waiting for forever). They did such a great job of nailing the characterization of Peter Parker/Spiderman. Vulture was really well done and a great antagonist for Peter.
  22. I decided to check it out and that was just sad. I recently saw a few early season episodes and they still hold up. Now it just seems like they ran out of ideas. Actually there were some decent ideas in th episode but they seem to be unable to actually make them funny.
  23. My understanding is that the time travel works in the standard Marvel comic way (although there are a number of contradictions). Time travel is not really a thing. In one of the early comics The Thing traveled to the past and prevented himself from going into space. When he returned to his time, nothing changed. He simply created an alternate timeline where he wasn't mutated. Similarly, for Days of Future Past, people from the future traveled to the present and changed things but that just made their own timeline an alternate one. It still existed on its own and travel between the two was still possible it just won't be our future. I'm a big fan of this style of time travel as it prevents paradoxes. The time gem/stone works differently as it is actually capable of rewriting reality so it can actually change the past/future. In that case, Deke should still exist. He comes from an alternate timeline which still exists (which means that the work they did to free those humans did count for something). Also, the Fitz who married Simmons was not our Fitz but one from the timeline where the Earth broke. One issue I had with this arc is there didn't seem to be anything that caused the future to be different. It would have been one thing if this was a first go through, but future Yo-Yo made it clear that they were effectively in a time loop (she similarly travel to the future like our Yo-Yo did and even got the same warning). So what happened this time that didn't occur previous loops? Best I can tell Phil made more of an effort not the take the Centipede serum. But the fact that I'm guessing means that it wasn't really a satisfying conclusion to breaking the loop. Also, the fight with Talbot made no sense. He should have had some time to use his powers to push himself back to Earth, best I can tell Daisy must have hit him with such a blast that it killed him instantly (like rupturing his heart or something, assuming that was even possible since he could sort of turn liquid). The CGI for Tahiti was really bad too. That said, I did like the episode. It was a great send off for Coulson and I liked how they didn't just make him recovering be him being cured. Similarly, I liked how they remembered Space Fitz which was what jumped into my mind after he died (although it looked like the rubble caved his head in when the rubble fell on him so I was surprised at first that he survived). Though it still seems kind of crappy that they didn't acknowledge that a Fitz did actually die.
  24. Looking forward to it. Was a huge fan of the show during its initial run. Did anyone see Joe Pera? I caught a few mins since my newborn was being fussy and I found it pretty boring.
  25. So it seems like FLCL season 2 is probably taking over season1's spot on June 2. That'll be nice as I can just go from Super straight through to Hunter x Hunter (assuming my newborn lets me).
