Yes and people react differently to that kind of tragedy. In Joel's case, he appeared to become more cold and hardened. As @Dev F says, more than a decade with Tess didn't open him up. Did he have a relationship with Tess, give her respect, have sex with her? Yes. Did he ever say "I love you"? I (and probably Marlene) think not. Six months with a bratty teenager who has her own attachment issues? What could happen?

Let me rephrase. :) For a normal person, that would be more than enough time to get attached. For someone with no heart (as Marlene believes of Joel), it wouldn't be.

As soon as Jackie mentioned separate finances, I knew without a doubt that Neville was wary of the family. And yes, he's 100% right to be.

I'm sure the ADA could be leveraged.

To be fair to Marlene, she had no idea that ruthless, cold, emotionally detached Joel had come to love Ellie like a daughter in so short a time. Not until it was too late.

They had the show cut from night to the next morning. Ben finally got some sleep!

It all feels a little exploitative to me, but then again the early stages of representation are always problematic, just ask the LGBTQ+ community.

Here's how I might fanwank this, and I think it's reasonable: Relatively speaking, there aren't a lot of people left at the end of the world. Not many of them are doctors. And not many of those doctors are surgeons. And of the few surgeons there are, not many are brain surgeons. And even if they had a brain surgeon, did he have access to the tools he needed (MRIs, x-rays, etc.) to locate a precise area of Ellie's brain to extract a sample without causing her harm? I would bet this doctor was just a GP, without the requisite skill and equipment to do anything other than saw open her skull and hack at her brainstem to remove the whole organ. Then, they'd have to find a microbiologist, but that's a future stage of the plan. Not sure if @paramitch's video says anything similar, haven't watched it yet, but it makes sense to me.

I would presume his lawyer recommended he not have a prosthesis, angling for sympathy from the jury. I'm curious, does William H. Macy engender the same contempt for his work post-scandal? I didn't follow the case that closely, was there some statement from Huffman that he didn't know what was going on?

Oh man, thank goodness Kate didn't go there.

Would she, though, if it was presented to her the way it was presented to Joel? Because Ellie told Joel this couldn't all be for nothing. But: This might be something else that was going through Joel's mind when he decided to scorch the earth.

She may have always been planning to go on to the hospital; this was the Fireflies' most important mission after all. It's also possible that she wasn't, but when she found out that things went bad in Boston, and that Joel didn't come back with Ellie, she realized he would be trying to take up the mission that the dead Fireflies couldn't, and figured she'd meet him at the end of the journey. And I figure she had access to vehicles when Joel didn't. Even if she didn't, she knew exactly where she was going, would plan the most direct route, and didn't have side quests, I mean unintentional deadly encounters, every few miles to slow her down. Not surprised she'd get there ahead of them.

Especially if, as happened here, the opposition learns about it, and can leverage it so easily. I mean, a single chair squeak can shut her down. A lawyer who can become essentially catatonic at any point during a trial is a huge liability. The only way that it wouldn't be an issue is if the trial principals all agree up front that they won't engage in such purposely distracting behaviour. And that, if something inadvertent did happen to trigger it, everyone would be patient while they worked it out.

I suspect they are giving him a relatively reasonable price, because as a businessman it would be relatively easy for him to ask around and find out if he's being cheated. A colleague might tell him it's a little on the higher end of the range for an expansion retainer, but not outrageous. In the meantime, they will use some of the funds to facilitate their other work. If sometimes that means unpaid overtime on Gryce's stuff, so be it. I think he gave just enough for the dog to feel too sick to chase after him, but would mostly recover by morning, so as not to arouse suspicion when warehouse staff came back to work.

Season 1 was so long ago I can't remember, is this the first time it was implied Hamilton is gay? ("Your ideal wife looks like Clark Gable.")

I won't be watching the spinoff, Huffman notwithstanding.

I wonder what Tess would have done, if Joel died at the start and she were the one to bring Ellie here. I wonder how Tess might have influenced Joel if they both came this far.

Also, if you're idea is about infringing on the peaceful rights of others, or actively causing them harm, I can safely say I don't need to hear the details. -
I fanwank this as the previous owner, the old lady, didn't have a TV, which would cause their knowledge of recent history and current affairs to be much more fragmented.

Every time it came up, the message I got from her body language was "yes, and both of those times I didn't want to, but I let it happen, and I'm ashamed, and can we just not talk about it."

S05.E17: The Contra Hearings and the Midnight Gambler
Starchild replied to Pallas's topic in The Conners
No, she said they were equal in ability. Passion was the deciding factor. -
It's an interesting point, and when I think about it, it seems to me that there is more sympathy for domesticated animals in general, because they have a relationship with humans. They trust, and the trust is betrayed. That's not so much the case for wild animals. There is still sympathy related to the "innocence" factor, but betrayal is not layered in.

I don't know if you know what simulcasting is, but for me in Canada the scene got cut off right after Dan said "you know what's great about that" So, please someone tell me what happened after that line?
