  1. I know women who have had 5 and 6 csections. Jill could still have a vbac for future pregnancies, too. ACOG says 2 csections does not contraindicate TOLAC. I think it would be hilarious to see Jill end up going to someone like Ina May at The Farm to vbac if she ever had another baby. Women's rights in childbirth is an interesting place where far left and far right types intersect.
  2. Bonnie's amends making reminded me of Christy's attempt with her daughter earlier this season. The difference is that Bonnie got the result she wanted once she pushed her foster mom, but it came with the price of learning Tammy's tragic secret. Bonnie and Christy both approach amends making from a self-serving perspective. They want forgiven and accepted, and making amends is just a means to an end. I think the writers are doing a good job of showing parallels between their characters. They both focused on trying to get the other person to see how much better they are now, listing their accomplishments as if they cancel out past bad behavior.
  3. Washing oily hair often actually makes it produce more oil. I washed my fine, blinde, oily hair twice a day as a teen because that was how I was taught to deal with it. I learned much later that both washing and brushing too much exacerbates the problem. I love having long hair, but up-dos and braids let me skip a day between washings. I also never blow dry. My daughters have similar hair, and I am training their hair to not use shampoo, but do cleansing conditioner washes every other day instead. It never looks dirty or smells oily. One of my girls likes hers kept in a pixie cut, which is great because it is so thin. Jill's hair actually looks pretty good in a side braid. It is very thick, even at the bottom. I've noticed many of my high school students have the over long unbrushed hair look, too. I feel very old with my coiffed hair, but when I was a kid I hated it when people said my hair looked stringy, and that is all I see with that style.
  4. I took zofran round the clock for the whole pregnancy each time, including in the iv during labor. Thankfully it worked well enough to keep vomiting down to 1-5 times a day most of the time. During my last pregnancy I tried diclegis instead, and it was completely useless. I lost 5 lbs in the middle of the second trimester thanks to that experiment. Unfortunately, zofran has some really unpleasant side effects, too, like horrible constipation and headaches. My mom is a real hero. She had hyperemesis back before effective meds, and still had four babies. She was hospitalized so many times during her pregnancy with me that she lost count. I don't think anything the Duggars have described sounds like hyperemesis. Morning sickness in the first trimester is common. Vomiting all day, every day, unless constantly medicated is not. If yours was not able to be controlled by medication, I definitely understand the decision to not have more children.
  5. I think Jessa is referring specifically to her pregnant belly, not necessarily weight gain, thus the discussion of birth weight. As someone who had four macroscomic babies weighing between 8 lbs 15 oz and 11 lbs, and who myself weighed 9 lbs 15 oz at birth, it is an area of interest to me. I've never seen Jessa look like she was packing on extra weight anywhere other than her belly and chest. I never gained more than the recommended weight and had hyperemesis, and still had giant babies. My fundal height was 5 weeks ahead with my fourth right before she was born, measuring 43 weeks at my 38 week appointment. She was born two days later weighing 10 lbs 10 oz. The midwives described my enormous belly as "pendulous". I never had gestational diabetes. My placentas weigh over 2 lbs and are incredibly efficient at feeding and growing huge babies. I'd be interested in seeing these women talk about how having very large babies affects a woman's recovery from childbirth. I have a "four finger" diastasis recti and got postpartum physical therapy for back pain. I know the Gothardites put a lot of emphasis on thinness, so I wonder how they handle it if their abdominal muscles separate? I would also hope Jessa has a hospital birth due to her history of postpartum bleeding, which is a risk with macroscomic babies because the uterus is so stretched. I had hemorrhages with my last two deliveries and needed multiple extra doses of pitocin and cytotec to get it under control.
  6. Scientists have studied the phenomenon of look alike couples. Varying theories abound, but it is a real area of research. My husband and I used to be mistaken for siblings, so I looked into it back when we were dating. I think John and Abbie's obvious happiness is more enjoyable to see than staged pictures of more attractive people. Notice she does not do the headship gaze. They both just grin like crazy because they are besotted. Even in the wedding picture with the terrible angle of her face, she just looks so full of personality that I still like the picture.
  7. My middle daughter has wispy blonde hair, like I did as a kid. Thankfully, she loves having a pixie cut. She gets compliments all of the time on her style (she's 4). Josie would probably look cute with a short haircut. However, not all kids like it. I always wanted long hair as a kid, no matter how thin it was. I still keep it long, but wear braids and updos most of the time.
  8. Where I grew up, window shopping is like browsing. We would go in and look around, but not intent on buying anything. Small town stores don't have big display windows, in my experience.
  9. I've read many of your posts about how an extremely controlling upbringing can be next to impossible to overcome, even for a highly intelligent person. I think we also need to add in the socio-economic facet for the Rodriguez family. I am originally from the area where they live, and most Americans outside of the region have no concept of what it is like. The drug problems, education quality, and generational poverty alone are overwhelming. Considering where they live, it would be very easy to stay convinced that a radically fundie lifestyle is superior. I'm not saying there are no positive opportunities, but culturally the negatives are very front-and-center. Someone up thread called Jill R. out for being a middle-aged white woman and needing to check her privelege. Look up the stats on middle-aged white women in WV and Kentucky, and it frames the conversation differently. They have a rapidly declining life expectancy due to high rates of drug overdose, suicide, and obesity. Again, I think this helps to see how Jill could maintain a belief that she is a great mom. Look into the teacher strikes in WV along with the massive numbers of children in foster care or being raised by grandparents, great-grandparents, or other relatives or neighbors. Context is important, and looking at Nurie and even Jill in context might help explain how they can maintain beliefs that seem so obviously abhorrent and incoherent to others.
  10. I'm from Appalachia, and it is common for families to call a large plot of land a farm, even if it is not being used for agriculture. It would be like saying homestead or family estate. Regarding LPNs, where I live they are often employed in long-term care facilities and by home health agencies, along with CNAs. Abby could work per diem providing respite/substituting for full-time nurses if she wanted to keep her license but only work when it is convenient for the show. When my daughter had private duty nurses, they were LPNs or CNAs, and staffing two shifts a day M-F and night shifts only on the weekend could be a nightmare. In rural areas, it's even harder to adequately staff an agency. Abby could probably have her pick of hours and assignments. I knew some nurses who only worked one weekend a month.
  11. I thought Brooke Logan was the only one in soapdom that did this, lol 😛 Speaking of Days, how about Nicole's dad. If I remember correctly, he forced his daughter into porn and raped Jan, getting her pregnant. I can't remember if he had abused Nicole himself as well.
  12. I was not a 90210 fan, but 8 Seconds, Buffy the Vampire Slayer (the movie), and his brief appearance in the beginning of the Fifth Element are all reasons I appreciated Luke Perry's acting. Someone up thread compared this loss to Robin William's. I let my kids watch Hook for the first time this weekend, and cried more than once, especially at this scene:
  13. It's a tricky catch-22, isn't it? Chronic pain can cause major negative personality changes, but medication can have side effects that cause personality changes, too, and so can abuse if those medicatiins. Not that we know any of these to be true of Derick.
  14. Some possibilities: Gideon could be on formula for weight gain, as many have mentioned he is on the small side. He could be lactose intolerant. There are lots of toddler formulas now. Maybe he needs supplements because he isn't a good eater yet. One of my children had to see an occupational therapist and go to a pediatric feeding clinic because she was on a feeding tube due to lung disease and developed an oral aversion due to projectile vomiting as an infant. Another had speech and physical therapy for idiopathic dysphagia that caused aspiration pneumonia. Through that experience, I learned that many children need other kinds of dietary and nutritional support. I've known children who basically lived off of Pediasure, kids with g-tubea, and kids who would vomit from certain smells and textures. Considering all of that, Joy may have a very good reason for Gideon to drink formula.
  15. With family members who have ADD and who have struggled with addiction, this one really hit home. I actually teared up during Bonnie's share because it was so familiar. I didn't find the humor of this episode to be funny at all, though.
  16. I can see it being negative because the perception that they had no other choice than to do things this way, but I don't think being in your late 20s and being married on your first Valentine's day as a couple is awful, because I did the same. I thought of myself as asexual and aromantic until I fell for my husband, whom I met when I was 25. We didn't start dating until I was 27 (in spring), and got married seven months later (late fall). He was 31. We were actually together on the Valentine's day before we got married, but just as friends. He was fixing my car for me. Unlike this couple, I had been living alone for years before dating my husband. We were not pressured to marry quickly, and we did kiss before marriage. Still, he is my only "Valentine" ever, ten years later. Since that aspect of their relationship reminds me of my own, I find it sweet, not tragic. JD seemed content to wait, like me, and Abbey was working as a nurse, while I was teaching.
  17. I wondered that, ut it could also be his awkward way of saying that Lauren is not pregnant again yet. I've known many women to get pregnant almost immediately after a miscarriage.
  18. I don't think announcing to immediate family early is bad. I told my family immediately, and I found out very early all four times. I figured that if I had a miscarriage, I would need their support, so I wanted them to know I was pregnant. Thankfully, I never had that experience. I just feel sad for Josiah and Lauren. I hope that they genuinely wanted to share their loss, not that they felt like they had to talk about it. Pregnancy and infant loss is a topic that is gaining more recognition, and considering their prolife beliefs, they may find discussing their loss to be an affirmation that this life had value and deserves to be acknowledged and mourned.
  19. It's about 15 years ago, but Craig and Nancy from Days of Our Lives were a great couple to turn the tables on the aforementioned trope. He was a doctor, too. https://goo.gl/images/Ydnzbn
  20. On a somewhat positive note, Nurie's hair looks more modern and her makeup is toned down somewhat.
  21. The new slang word is "fire", so maybe it means, "Ben looks fire in that pic." My high schoolers says things they like are "fire" frequently.
  22. Jessica's reanimation Fringe was the scene that stuck with me. It wasn't gory, but I found it horrifying.
  23. Ah, ok. I'm not on IG and I thought the picture above was the whole story. Is boxing and labeling outgrown clothes really seen as part of this "movement". I've been doing that for ages and only recently heard of Konmari through other people talking about the Netflix show. How else do you keep track of clothes you are saving for hand-me-downs? Jimger, Jana, and Lauren all come across on SM as being organized and on-trend.
  24. Jinger never mentioned Konmari, did she? She just organized some headbands in a cutesy DYI way. The nursery teachers at daycare had a similar set up for the kids daily reports. Jinger didn't even say anything about getting rid of stuff.
  25. When I was pregnant, I was more apt to wear tight tops because otherwise I just looked fat. A bump-hugging shirt made the distinction for me. The Duggar girls look like most pregnant women their age to me. Even their long hair is pretty typical, since many young women I know let their hair grow during pregnancy because hormones and prenatal vitamins make the hair thicker and grow faster.
