  1. As with many men who look a bit goofy when clean-cut, I think Nathan would benefit from the still somewhat trendy mountain man look. Put a beard and some slightly shaggier hair on him, and his nose would be more balanced and his thin mouth not as noticable.
  2. Ditto this. GC and Cecily never had sex. She's a virgin, as far as we know. She says they are both children and should move on with life.
  3. As the teetotaler spouse of an alcoholic myself, this episode resonated with me. He told me that when he first got sober, he figured he would end up with another recovered addict because he didn't think anyone just never drank alcohol. I won't touch it because of family history of addiction. Seeing Jill assume that she and Andy had to break up reminded me of that mindset. I kind of want to see Christy on a date with Marjorie's 72 year old friend, but I also just want her to not date at all. She really needs to get into therapy more than a relationship. I rewatched earlier seasons recently, and Christy has been through so much that she has never dealt with. Aside from Bonnie's terrible parenting and her own addictions, she was in an abusive relationship with Violet's dad when she was 17 and she was raped by a stranger at a party. She also really was mugged when she gambled and won with the rent money. We've repeatedly seen her end what appear to be healthy relationships with men (season one Adam, Patrick), but jump right to sex with men who are toxic for her (the alcoholic fireman, Baxter, her married boss, the college guys). Instead of opening up more "serious issues" to deal with, I'd live to see the show really delve into all of the stuff we know about Christy the way it has for Bonnie.
  4. Breaking news: Nurie and Nathan are engaged. They announced via Facebook about 10 minutes ago.
  5. I'm actually more interested in their story than many of the others. Demelza misjudges social protocol again, Ross is too impetuous again, etc. Drake and Morwenna's story is slow and quiet, and I like that. The only other interesting plot to me right now is George's madness.
  6. As an Evangelical myself, we do not believe that young children go to hell if they are not saved/baptized. We do believe that young children's faith can be genuine and that they can recognize sin at an early age. Jesus said that the kingdom of Heaven belonged to those with faith like children, and not to hinder children when they want to come to Him. I think the Duggars overemphasize the recognition of sin over the appeal of Jesus, which makes it seem like condemnation rather than salvation is the driving force. Jesus also said anyone who causes a little one to sin would be better off putting a millstone around his neck and drowning himself, which is often construed as a warning against anyone who might abuse children and cause then to lose faith. This especially applies to religious leaders. Josh, Gothard, and others in their circle would do well to remember that scripture, along with any others who use religion and positions of power to hide abuse. Not to go too far off topic, but I think of this every time I hear about another abuse scandal in a church or religious organization. Jesus had harsher words for hypocrites and those who would harm children than He did for anyone else.
  7. I vote nay. My granny was Beulah, I had a great-aunt Beulah, and I now have a neice with the middle name. The common nickname is Boots or Bootsy. If you punch any Beulah in my family, she's apt to pull a gun on you. Does Cade go to the same church as the Vuolos? I know they share theological beliefs and both aspire to fame via reality shows, but is that it?
  8. Gizmo is a mogwai. You only get gremlins if you get him wet and feed the resulting creatures after midnight. I do see the resemblance to Ivy, but in a good way.
  9. She was 12, according to news articles. Josh was 14/15.
  10. Not necessarily an associate pastor. I know there is a lot of speculation about how he is paying for this program. Since they don't have TA type positions, he could have some other kind of appointed position. I've worked in both higher education and a large church. There are many positions that I could see Jeremy in that would fot his personality and have more to do with currying favor than other skills, and that he would be using as a stepping stone in the organization.
  11. Classes start the 13th. He might have orientation or an on campus job?
  12. When I was pregnant, I would give the span of two weeks in either side of the due date, since most pregnancies deliver between 38 and 42 weeks. That way if I went a full 42 weeks, I wouldn't have people pestering me about being "overdue", which isn't until after 42 weeks. So, she could be due mid-February, which would put her at almost 12 weeks, around the same time most people considered it safe to announce.
  13. My youngest daughters, 3 and 4, recently developed huges crushes on a guy who was here for an hour to give us some estimates for work on our house. A week later, they still ask about him by name and say they miss him. They both go to preschool and are very socialized. In conclusion, kids are weird. The fact that Jill posts about it as if it is supremely meaningful instead is what I find strange.
  14. My previous post was about this, not anything on here. These are messages responding directly to her. Lauren can't even post a simple commiseration and agreement without drawing ire. If you check out the thread, the hundreds of other people sharing detailed stories about losing children get no such reaction on IG. I just don't see anything offensive about anything Lauren has said about her miscarriage. I think I'd be sad, too, and I'd probably want to talk about it, even if I was pregnant again.
  15. I love long hair, and I think the picture showing Jill's from the back looks good. The trim and styling makes it look thick and healthy. I also like when she braids it or wears it in a low bun. I know the popular opinion is that she should hack it all off, but I'd just like to see her try more styles for long hair and take better care of her mane. I think she would look good with a soft layered fringe. She could keep the length, cover her large forehead and frame her face, and look like a different person.
  16. I agree. I shared about Jill's post because it comes up periodically on this board, people questioning the children's diet and asking why CPS isn't involved. Actually, multiple unfounded calls might eventually get their case file labeled as harassment, especially if either the same person calls multiple times or if the calls are mostly people who do only "know" the family from social media and are the "hate followers" Jill references in her rant.
  17. CPS showed up at the Rod home, according to Jill, and someone also called police on them in Florida about the kids. She posted a long diatribe about the kids being naturally thin and well-fed, and about having multiple visits from CPS over the years that have cleared them of abuse or neglect.
  18. I don't doubt the diagnosis for Janessa. In my experience, doctors can often state the worst case scenario as if it is a certainty. Medical diagnosis can also be tricky, and outliers do exist. One of my daughters has a rare lung condition, NEHI. Almost nothing about the trajectory of her illness was typical. Her symptoms appeared ealier and were much more severe than normal, intital tests were inconclusive and looked like she had a much more dire prognosis, and biopsy showed that she actually had two concurrent interstitial lung diseases (meconium aspiration syndrome was the other), both of which improve on their own over time. However, she also got better much faster than expected. Most children with just one of those diseases are on oxygen for at least two years, and she was off of oxygen support within four months, and has been symptom free for over four years. Having had that experience, among others, I know that sometimes medical anomalies, or miracles if you will, can and do happen. If Jill was falsely going for the miracle angle, I think she would play it up more.
  19. The $2 million is only real eatate in one county. A previous poster said the Duggars own more property in another county, but the website that shows properties is harder to compile values in that county. Combine that with likely other investments and assets, and the $2 million is probably just a fraction of the actual total.
  20. I don't think the parents being hypocrites precludes the daughters from getting restitution for an invasion of privacy. No matter how Jim and Michelle may have misrepresented the family on the show and in other public venues, the legal rights of rhe girls does not change. It smacks of victim blaming to me, especially since they were children at the time and its really their parents who made all of yhe hypocritical decisions. Joy was 5 when she was molested, and still a minor when it came out. The fact that no one - her parents or those who fulfilled the FOIA request or the media - protected her is reprehensible. Her older sisters may have been adults when the information came out, but they still are innocent victims of childhood sexual abuse, no matter how much anyone hates the family, religion, or show. Protection of minors and sex abuse victims trumps sticking it to Jim, Michelle, and Gothardism in my book.
  21. My husband and I were born the same years as Ma and Pa Caldwell. She and I were both born in 1980, and Mr. Sleepy and Paul were both born in 1977. We got married much later, though, and only had 4 children before taking permanent measures to stop the baby train. We had our children in less than six years, and I have no doubt that without the vasectomy I would have another toddler and be pregnant again at this point. From that perspective, the idea that Christina would be expecting again isn't too outlandish to me. However, also like me, she could just be sporting the permanently pouchy belly of motherhood. I know not every mom gets a diastasis recti, but many pregnancies in rapid succession make it more likely.
  22. My son and daughter both weigh 50 lbs. They are 8 1/2 and 6 1/2 years old, respectively. Izzy just turned four. Unless he is a huge four-year-old, he should have plenty of time left in that bed. My boy is average height, clinically underweight (13th percentile), and my girl is a average for both height and weight.
  23. They live in rural WV, where there are so many children in foster care due to the drug epidemic that the Rodriguez family is not of concern. Honestly, unless you e lived there long-term, it is hard to grasp the level of social dysfunction in those communities. We are in the third, fourth, and in some families fifth generation of drug abuse, poverty so ingrained they see no way out, epidemic levels of hoarding that is symptomatic of poverty and depression, and infrastructure so bad that schools that flooded three years ago were never repaired or replaced. When you live in an area known for having the highest overdose rate in the country, a family like this can easily pass for wholesome and healthy. They may be underweight and dress strangely and wear too much makeup, but they are clean, not being injured or left alone while their parents get high, and they aren't at risk from drug paraphanlia being left around the home. CPS has much bigger problems.
