Pet Peeves: Aka Things That Make You Go "Gah!"
nokat replied to Betweenyouandme's topic in Everything Else
People who do laps may run into you! I certainly hope you feel more comfortable in water. -
@SuprSuprElevated that is my butt after flaming anything.
-
Hee, I'm floating more easily too. I was a skinny thing but could still float. You have to not panic when the water is up near your nose.
-
Thanks for moving the discussion. Where I used to live, knowing how to escape a rip tide was very important. We are mostly very buoyant, so you can float to the top and and lay there if you don't fight it. I would lay there floating on gentle lake waves for an hour.

Never feel ashamed. I know there is a lot of baggage in your background, but whatever helps you enjoy life, please do. I have to tell this to myself frequently. -

@PRgal There is a difference between a public and private pool of course. I was near a lake, and didn't see a pool until I was a teen. We all learned to swim at a young age. My peeve is people ignoring beach signs. -

So much this. As an adult I would of course save your kid, but don't assume I am watching them as a life guard would. Also, if I'm supposedly watching your kid, don't get angry if I show them how to behave as in where the trash receptacle is. I'm always polite about it. -
I admit to loving cats. Nokat has nothing to do with my preference.

So which is better in a small apartment? A small dog who needs walks and sits in your lap (or a big dog that thinks he fits in your lap) or a cat that secretly judges your every move and knocks things off shelves? Or a guinea pig that will eat salad with you?

I know, I thought it was just me but he looks like he borrowed clothes too big for him. "I got a sock, Dobbie is free." Easy to make though with extra fabric.

So you don't want to cancel first? If you don't want to go, say so but make it your issue, as in something happened and you can't go. If you're like me though, you want to cancel, go anyway, and end up enjoying yourself.

Health and Wellness Chit-Chat: Your Primary Care Topic
nokat replied to JTMacc99's topic in Health & Wellness
Glad to hear it was a soft landing. I used a walker after breaking my tibia, and I'm finding my balance is off and I trip easily. I'm always watching where I walk as I have tripped on the tiniest unevenness in the floor. Actually that can be worse than a step as it's something you don't expect. I'm thinking that I need to add yoga or something beyond walking to improve balance. -

Yes, an in-law who didn't want to admit to needing anything. He finally had some surgery that helped his mobility. -
I've had one prescribed. Now I take a D3 gummy to keep my levels up. I've read about many problems that can occur with a deficiency and most of us are low.

It takes some time to realize it's a one-sided friendship. Good-hearted people are easy to take advantage of.

I find this show so fun and I like all of the characters. @quarks summed up the episode well (the ripped shirt, nice) and I will be sad when it's done. Let's enjoy shows like this because now the CW will not be doing scripted shows.

I laughed too hard at this. I agree about things that are accomplishments being celebrated. For my high school graduation I got luggage. Not a subtle hint to get the hell out. Off to college. Birthdays I think are for the young, or if you reach 100. If you pass the card around at the office I'll sign it, but to me it's not a big deal.

Both brothers are disgusting. I did have my suspicions with those two. I agree about Maria.
-
I understand that you feel left out. Please don't take it personally. If you are invited just for a gift I would rethink the friendship.

@Quof I found loafers I like. Thanks for the reference to Vionics.

For those of us in the U.S. they are available. I'm worried they aren't for walking miles of pavements.

I snort laughed and then thought I shouldn't laugh.

Stress, Depression, Anxiety and other Mental Health-related things
nokat replied to PRgal's topic in Health & Wellness
I've had a lot of change happening at once. A lot of things to juggle and a cross country move. I am actually surprised at how well I've handled it. I know people do this so it's no big deal, but for someone with anxiety it can be overwhelming. So for anyone out there feeling it is too much, accept help if offered, and do a little at a time without thinking of all the things to do yet. What needs done now? Do that. Write lists for short term. Put aside the things that can wait. This kept me going. If anti-anxiety meds help you like they did me, don't hesitate. -
So I'm mostly settled in to my new place, and moving across the country has been quite the adventure. But things went relatively smoothly. It's more rural than I'm used to, but a grocery store is a mile away, so I can walk if needed. I test walked once in the morning before the heat hit. It's been so hot and humid. So, all the usual things that need doing when you move I have to do without a car. I need new shoes for walking. Any recommendations for walking shoes with good cushioning that go up to a size 10? My current ones are Adidas, and they aren't bad.
