  1. This has just been an awfully sad week for MLB.
  2. Even though I haven't heard it said, I think the fact that two fans fell considerable distances - one to his death - makes the Rangers even more anxious to say goodbye to the park (which opened the same year as Jacobs Field).
  3. That is indeed a classy move, and even more poignant that it will happen in the city where he spent the first decade or so of his illustrious career. He's earned it, that's for sure.
  4. I knew it had to be something serious when the Tribe put him on the DL and kept fairly quiet about the exact reasons. But he has the resources for the best possible care, and is in the same city as the Cleveland Clinic. He is young and is a scrapper. God bless you, Cookie, Cleveland has your back!!
  5. I'm not a fan of the pre-taped shows. I'd rather see a rerun, because at least they are talking about things that are (or were) in the news.
  6. This sounds like something from an episode of Mama's Family. 😂
  7. How about bosom friends Anne Shirley and Diana Barry?
  8. I haven't watched the syndicated episodes in years, but I just checked the DVDs out of the library. What fun it's been watching the episodes. It's so funny how with just a gray wig, glasses, some padding and support hose, Vicki Lawrence channeled such an old lady when she was only in her 30s. Thelma Harper's acid wit reminds me of my own grandmother. Undoubtedly, Mama reminded many people of their own mothers and grandmothers. Yes, Bubba was definitely an upgrade from Buzz and Sonja. I wasn't sad to see them go the way of Chuck Cunningham.
  9. This reminds me of Darryl Kile. Tyler Skaggs was just married this past off-season. They didn't even get to their first anniversary. My heart and prayers go out to his wife, family, friends and the entire Angels organization.
  10. I saw that. Too cute!!!
  11. Getting back to NBC soaps, I watch the reruns of The Doctors (which taped at 30 Rock and aired from 1963 to 1982). The dedicated staff of Hope Memorial Hospital, Madison, USA, can do all of their professional duties and still get home in time to cook scrumptious meals with no household help. They work full-time and have invisible/little seen babysitters for their minor children. They get to take long breaks and chat with their friends over endless cups of coffee. They can open up a new department or position without funding, permission from the hospital board, or even much time!! One day they are going to do it, the next day everything is settled in. You can get a loved one a job at Hope, even if they have been out of the medical profession for years and don't even need to take refresher courses or even renew a license!! When they are not guzzling down caffeine on the clock, they spend their free hours knocking back the scotch at the local bar/restaurant/living room. The patients are mostly invisible - referred to but mostly not seen - unless, of course, the patient is a staff member or a family member of a staff member. It also goes without saying that many of the doctors and nurses, ahem, often play doctor and nurse. All that being said, I wasn't even born for much of the time this soap was on the air originally and I love almost every second of it. It's also heads and shoulders above pretty much anything that passes for the American soap genre today.
  12. With the All-Star Game in Cleveland quickly approaching, the roster for the All-Star Celebrity softball team has been announced. Yes, Drew Carey is on it - of course!! https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/jennie-finch-jamie-foxx-among-stars-set-to-play-in-mlbs-2019-all-star-celebrity-softball-game/
  13. I remember watching Preying Mantis with my grandma many years ago. This made for TV movie starred Jane Seymour (playing against type of her then-current TV role, Dr. Quinn) and Barry Bostwick. Chad Allen, who played her adopted son on Dr. Quinn, played her stepson here.
  14. Carlie's parents and Harvey's parents in The Pinballs (by Betsy Byers).
  15. The only complete set I have is Barney Miller.
  16. One of the first TV soap operas dealt with a lawyer who was paralyzed - and the role was played by a paralyzed actress: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miss_Susan
  17. Gregory Sierra just shined in that episode. I wish he had stayed for the show's entire run.
  18. I want to live in the Stephens house (Bewitched), Mary Richards' first apartment in the Victorian house (The Mary Tyler Moore Show) AND Hayden Fox's cabin in the woods of Minnesota (Coach). Right now!! 😂
  19. I didn't put nearly as much thought into how to properly pronounce "LiMu" as you folks did, but it sure has become a lively discussion!!! 😊
  20. Not surprisingly, this is my favorite in the series. (Other favorites of mine include The Price of Gold and June 17, 1994.)
  21. Another trope that cracks me up is when an out of shape guy goes to a gym and tries to act buff to impress a girl - making himself look like a total idiot, of course. Again, this is a trope directly lifted from real life. 😂
  22. Jason Kipnis delivered again!!! It only took a 2 1/2 hour rain delay and 10 innings, but we'll take it!!!
