I do wish guests weren't so 'cleaned up' for presentation on TV. It's hard to get a read on them (for me, anyway). Professional make up job, eyebrows tweezed, hair shiny and perfectly styled. Dad in spiffy suit and tie and face make up too. Then they talk about their chaotic lives.... it seems weird, like a soap opera.

I agree with everyone that's mentioned mental health. Opiods, over-eating, hoarding, gambling, (the list goes on) they're all just coping skills. No one knows how to cope any more. No one wants to feel. They want only good/happy feelings and not think about the hardships and realities of real life. And so the self-destructive habits begin. Block it all out with food because that's the happy place. Oh there's a huge lymphatic lump on my leg and I can hardly wipe my own butt? Well, pass the whipped cream, I'll think about it tomorrow. At least Janine didn't have an enabler. It's the enablers that annoy me the most. But she was getting to the point where she would become bedridden and not able to even get to her scooter. And then what? How does one not think about that? Maybe brain surgery is the answer. It's all a brain thing.

These Spoilers Suck: Bitter Speculation About SPN Spoilers

I agree. I just posted words to this effect somewhere else. Hunting has been devalued to the point anyone and their giddy aunt can do it. -
Supernatural Smackdown: The Winchester Dynamic Duo vs Other Shows
Pondlass1 replied to DittyDotDot's topic in Supernatural
I'd have to hit the gym and then get me some skinny jeans .....plus I prefer wine over beer. But yeah - I've watched this show for 13 years. I could probably do it too. -
Hashtags - lest we forget. (Gosh, I loved this episode - those shoulders.... oh my)

Supernatural Smackdown: The Winchester Dynamic Duo vs Other Shows
Pondlass1 replied to DittyDotDot's topic in Supernatural
Sam had to repeat the words written for her, it's true. But did she have to wear that ice cold expression whenever in the vicinity of her sons? And then the elevation to Wow, super hunter extraordinaire!!!??? I don't know what it is with this show these days. In the beginning hunting was depicted as lonely, dangerous, requiring an extensive knowledge and fear of the supernatural. But as new characters were introduced hunting is suddenly nothing at all. In fact anyone can do it. I could probably do it. -
Thanks for posting. I found myself wondering if Sam's nice crisp white shirt smells of beer. No matter how dire the circumstance, Jensen always looks like he stepped from the pages of GQ magazine. And I had to smile. I was just watching a con video where Jensen asks why they can't torture someone at a Holiday Inn for a change. :)

I'm usually only watching now with half an ear, but I did sit up and pay attention to the couple with the children who didn't want visitation with dad because he apparently was abusing them. Mom was probably coaching them, and dad probably had a lot more issues than was brought out in discussion. For a while it seemed like Phil was going to point fingers at Mom. But then the wind went out of Phil's sails at the end when he read the results from the lie detector test. Mom did not lie when asked if she coached her children. Dad refused to take the test. Phil seemed lost for words for once and took several drinks of water. So what was going on? I do have to admit that when the children spoke about visits to dad and the supposed abuse, it was by rote and almost sing-song like a fun story. They didn't seem afraid the way a child would be in such a circumstance. Hope this family can work together. Children should never be forced to take sides.

I enjoyed the episode. However the pizza van had no human driver and the victim wasn’t badly hurt. So right from the start, the need to find witnesses seemed a bit overwrought (to me, anyway). Surely the insurance company had more important cases to investigate? It could have made more sense... She kills the guy. She’s startled by a sound outside and looks out the window down at the accident. The pizza van has a human driver and the victim is fatally wounded and rushed to hospital. This gives some gravity to this insurance probe. Before he dies the accident victim is hooked up to the memory machine. They watch his dying memory visions and there in the background is the woman looking down from the hotel room. He dies. Now the insurance probe to locate her begins in earnest. The pizza driver faces manslaughter. It was an icy empty street. The woman in the window is the only witness. I agree the ending was left open to interpretation. The police were there for another reason surely. This was only a short time later. How could they read a guinea pig’s jumbled memories and then locate where she was so quickly. Thank goodness most humans are equipped with a conscience. Otherwise we’d never have survived as a species. Killing someone and hiding the body – you’re in a prison whether the police catch you or not.

I think the spin off should have been The Story of Castiel. His absence from the show would leave a huge gap, of course, but he's missing from half the season anyway. Constantine didn't do well, but I think The Story of Castiel would. Misha already enjoys an established and passionate fandom and Castiel's journey since meeting up with the Winchesters has been a rich and complex one ( and he often screws up, which I appreciate). And if the Js end their series after 14 seasons they can always show up as guest stars or cameos. It could be filmed in Vancouver with the same crew. I'll give the Waywards a fair try, but girl power not really my thing.

Parts I have to ignore to stay sane. Most of it I loved. Dean and Billie.... oh my. This is not just a case of a person who is not allowed to die, or who has become immortal and bored with it. It’s a case of someone who lives in a universe where life is short and hard, a prize taken away before anyone has had enough of it. This person assumes, since he is not important enough for second chances or extensions, that his life will be especially short and hard. As Dean puts it “It doesn’t matter. I don’t matter.” But he is told that he can’t die because he is far, far too important to die. And Dean glances up at that entire library of Ws is devoted just to him. It does indeed seem as though she is cruel in dangling the possibility of death – of many deaths – in front of him. He is told that without him, the universe would be toast. And to emphasize this perhaps just to placate him and give him motivation to continue on they even bring back his best friend. Problem is, Dean is still human and that kind of heavy can break your mind. He’s not alright at the end - - “I’m pretty far from okay”, but he does have the tools to keep going once he sees Castiel at the phone booth, an embodiment of at least one of his prayers answered against all odds. A genuinely thought-provoking and re-watchable episode (bits of it anyway). What shape he’ll be in for the rest of the season is a whole other story. He's had a couple more blows since Advanced Thanatology aired. Scenes with Billie = Jensen at the top of his game. The master of subtlety. My favourite so far this season.

Supernatural Bitterness & Unpopular Opinions: You All Suck
Pondlass1 replied to mstaken's topic in Supernatural
I think Supernatural writers have forgotten that bad guys are allowed to have a personality and sense of humour. -
Me neither. It's all the same, no matter the issue. The show needs a shake up in format or maybe just needs to end. Even the most outrageous guests and topics are somehow made humdrum and Phil's responses are all the same. He hands out hankies and puts verbs in his sentences. He only pretends to care nowadays. And those odd stilted film-bites of the guest walking along the street or staring off to into space during the show's introduction? What's that all about?

Small Talk: Only 2 Ounces Of Commenting Allowed

This is very true and very sad. Type 2 Diabetes will be rampant in a few years. Bedridden morbidly obese will be common place. Hope the US health and welfare systems will be able to keep up. They have enough on their plates with opiod epidemic. I don't know what the answer is. Usually the human race needs a calamity before we wake up and do something. -

Well obviously the writers have been charged with setting up the introduction of the WS show. So Patience gets the call. But in terms of things making sense... Dean calling patience makes little sense whereas contacting Donatello (love that guy..but unfortunately he's not a teenage girl) does. -

It's just a contrived notion to kick-start the WS show, so I'm not bothered. The writers are kind of stuck with this dream-walker/clairvoyant teens scenario. Although I don't know why networks chase such a demo - these kids don't watch ads. -

I couldn't see the video so thanks. But now I wish I hadn't. It's a joke, right? They're pulling our leg. -
I know right? It's like the fat deposits had nowhere else to go so they built up at the back of his head. Hope Rene wakes up and leaves that horrible man.

Supernatural Bitterness & Unpopular Opinions: You All Suck

I have a passionate romantic bent I guess. Not that I see their relationship as sexual, of course not. But where you see ordinary and everyday - I see the tragedy and triumph of heroes. They are the backbone, the foundation.... and the sole reason I watch. We must agree to disagree. -

You're making it ordinary and it's not. If this ^ were true we wouldn't have gone much beyond season 2. It's a relationship dynamic like never before. Makes me think of Dickens' famous opening paragraph ... It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way.... The story of Sam and Dean depicts conflicts between family and love, hatred and oppression, good and evil, light and darkness, times of despair and suffering on one hand, joy and hope on the other. The predictable Salvatore brothers they ain't. -

There's a fine line between love and hate. -
The homes belonging to these morbidly obese all seem so cluttered and depressing and dreary. And there's usually some poor skinny dog that probably never gets out for walks. The sister coming to cook two dozen eggs and four pounds of bacon for their breakfast - what is wrong with her? That's not helpful kindness, that's practically murder.

Sam and Dean. It's the greatest love story ever told (minus the sexual attraction of course). -
If anyone follows Bizarro Jensen #SPNHon @s-verasani on Twitter, he posted a bunch of short clips yesterday of Jensen in the denim shirt at the Beer Company. Jensen must be to reporters or something - at one point he goes through all characters and which beer they'd drink. I don't know how to post tweets here. Oh,it worked.
