@12Medbe I would love to see them do standing, standing, laying down again as well Improbable Mission. I also keep hoping they'll do superheros because comic books/super hero movies are so big right now.

This is why TV shows on DVD should have been incldued. It allowed showrunners to do more creative and in-depth material because they knew it would have a second life on DVD. It also made more sense to put in detials because there was now the expectation that repeat viewings were possible and people would be paying attention to the detials. In addition all of this is happening against the backdrop of the rise of HDTV when the picture became clearer and suddenly it was possible to see more detials.

I am convinced even though I have absolutely no proof that they were given 10 episodes and scripted 10 with the end point as the Million Dollar Quartet session than at some point during the production process the order got cut to 8 episodes with the vauge idea of maybe we'll do a second season.

Here's my problem with this. If they wanted the focus to be Elvis and his early years (Sun to RCA) then why bother including/devoting so much screen time to Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash, and any screen time at all to Carl Perkins. It felt like with two more episodes, they could have gotten to the Million Dollar Quartet Session.

I had never thought of Mr. Rogers or his show as religious, but it was in a very low key way. His idea that everyone is special reminded me of Quakers or Unitarians (and I am sure other religions/sects have this as part of thier theology)-the idea that every person has a spark of the divine within them. Something that impressed me was how long the show was on for; I had no idea it ran for so meany seasons. I liked that he worked with child development experts to make sure the series was age appropiate and developmentally sound.

Jack-Jack stole the show. I saw a special double feature IMAX screening where 90% of the audience was people in thier 20s or 30s. People applauded when they drove up to Edna's house in the second movie. I would love a series of short films about Jack-Jack or Jack-Jack and Edna together. As soon as I heard the theme songs for the three characters during the credits I thought, I want to buy these and I really hope they are not album only. Lucky for me, I could buy them as singles. I figured out within 5 minutes who the villian was going to be, but I still enjoyed the movie and I do plan on seeing it a second time.

Good point. Although if you ask me, I think a discussion of TiVo belongs in the episode on TV and not technology. TV shows on DVD allowed fans to catch up pretty quickly with a TV series so people could start the new season totally caught up with everything that happened previously. That was a real game changer and should have been included in the episode.

Grantchester in the Media: All the News You Can't Get from Mrs. Maguire
Sarah 103 replied to M. Darcy's topic in Grantchester
No one looks better out of the black vicar's suit too. To take a dip in the shallow end of the pool, I totally swooned when he wore that black buttoned down he wore in 3.1. It makes me happy when Sidney is in an undershirt or shirtless. -
Overall the episode on TV was good but it could have been better organized. They should have gone from Sopranos/The Wire to The Shield to House M.D. The trajectory being you have HBO doing cutting edge anti-hero stuff, which filters down to basic cable, which eventually filters down further to broadcast. Also, I was totally surprised they almost completely skipped over Sex and the City because without Sex and the City, you do not get Desperate Housewives. The episode made a mistake in thier discussion of Mad Men. The show was not the first scripted series for AMC. There was a short-lived series about a movie studio set in the 1930s called The Lot. It only lasted for a season or two but it still should count. There should have been a segment on teen shows which would have been a logical place to discuss Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Vernoica Mars, Gilmore Girls and similar shows. There should have been some discussion of what a game changer TiVo and the availablity of TV series on DVD were. This was the decade when suddenly there was a massive home market/secondary market for TV shows which had not existed in the era of VHS. A hit TV show getting a DVD release became the norm rather than the exception. TiVo changed the way people watched television. I would have liked to see more about the split between what critics gushed over and what people actually watched. Shows like Sopranos and Mad Men got all of the critical attention and a great deal of ink as well as buzz online, but the highest rated shows for much of the decade were The Big Bang Theory and NCIS.

Since it isn't airing the summer of a presidential election, I think we should be okay. Midterm elections don't generate the same kind of breaking national news/news events (like debates) that presidential elections do.

We have a start date (July 15th or July 16th) and it looks like the list of episodes/topics: 1. Teams & Duos 2. Carnal Knowledge 3. Humor In Animation 4. Gone Too Soon 5. Going Clean/Flipping Funny 6. Improv & Sketch https://www.cnn.com/videos/tv/2018/07/06/history-of-comedy-season-2-cnn-original-series-supertease.cnn-creative-marketing

They have always had music, but they have never covered movies. I wish they covered movies, but for some reason they have decided not to and since this has been the case for Sixties, Seventies, Eighties and Nineties, I saw no reason why they would break the established pattern for this mini-series. I do not think you can cover the economy, which would include Enron, Martha Stewart, and the 2008 crash in the same episode as the episode on politics.

I wish they had spent equal time on Elizabeth and Philip's backstories over time. It would have been great if we ended knowing just as much about Philip's background as we did Elizabeth's. I don't understand why this is true. You have country X. People in the intelligence of Country X are plotting to kill their own leader. Spies who work for Country X stationed in Country Y learn of the plot and are able to stop it. The spies saved the leader of their country. There were two factions (the people who wanted to kill the leader and the people who wanted to stop it). Their side won (the people who wanted to stop the assassination). Plus Arkady isn't exactly an errand boy with zero power. They had his support and he's a pretty high ranking person within the organization.

If the celebrity guest can hold thier own and fully participate in the games (like Chip Estin, who will always be Chip to be me), they're fine. The Drew Carry version had a celebrity week which included Robin Williams, Whoppi Goldberg and Sid Ceasar, which was awesome. The problem with most of the "celebrities" on the CW show is that they are not very strong at improv so they end up as dead weight and limit the type of games that the rest of the performers can do, because they have to include the special guest star.

I was thinking Harry Potter/Librarians. The clipping book sends them to London. Jenkins gives Eve a note (the viewer sees him ask her for a private word while the camera/action stays on Cassandra, Jacob and Ezekeil). The Librarians are investigating something that is connected to something the Ministry of Magic are also investigating. It's not the same case but two related/connected cases. Later when they run into Ministry of Magic, Eve gives them the letter. The letter explains that while they are Muggles, they are also aware of and used to dealing Magic. Harry and Ron work with the team in the field. Hermoine is at HQ conducting research. She shares what she knows during briefing scenes. Harry, Ron, and Hermoine use the backdoor to access the Library Annex. Jacob Stone geeks out with Hermoine. Eve and Hermoine know what it's like to be the responsible one. Harry and Flynn understand the importance of trusting your instincts and doing what you think is best. Cassandra admires how British Wizards are taught to use magic responsibly.

It was great to see film dub again and even better to an episode with just the four main chairs and no "celebrity guest." The show really works so much better without them.

To be honest, I think the CW stars are a waste. They're not at the same level of improv as the main players and they don't really add much. Also, the need to work in the CW guest stars limits the type of games they can do. That being said, if they were to bring in actually stars/celebrities who could hold thier own with the regulars, that would be a different story. Here's who I would like to see: Stephen Colbert Tina Fey Seth Meyers Amy Pohler Mel Brooks Samantha Bee Drew Carey John Oliver Muppets (logistically it would be difficult, but it would also be fantastic)

I would love to see them do three-headed opera star. They could sing a song about the guest star. I'm not a big fan of the guest stars, but singing a song about them is the best/easiest way to use them. The guest star doesn't have to do anything other than stand there, because most of them can't do improv well.

I love "Greatest Hits." I wish they would play it more often. Not having a guest star was fantastic. I really hope they do more episodes without a guest star. Since superheroes are big right now, it would be the perfect time to bring back the game "Superheroes" where the audience names the first person, and then each person gives the superhero name of the next person to enter the scene. This is not the funniest version of it, but gives a sense of how the game works. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=29uxLWUOwEw

One of the great things about the forums on this site is that you do not need special permission/access to create a thread/topic. If you wanted to start a thread for discussing Season 1 you could and I think you should because it's a great idea. I like both of these ideas, but they should be seperate threads. One thread that's devoted to rewatching the entire series and a second thread for favorite episodes/moments.

Here is the place to talk about season 2. This is the space for speculation without spoilers, discussion of season 2 episodes and all other posts related to season 2, aside from media which has its own thread/topic.

They're still KGB. Having sucessfully worked in America for decades, they will train the next generation. Someone else will have to take thier place, until it all comes crashing down in the early 1990s. In college, when I lived in the dorms, I had roommates who were almost never around, so that worked for me/seemed realistic enough.

Paige may not know much, but what she knows might be useful, especially when put together with information they have from other sources.

OMG! This would have been the perfect setting for my hypothetical spin-off. Philip, Oleg, Stan and Henry fight crime/help people who can't go to the authorities. Thier base of operations could have been a bar in South America. It's where people go to meet them and hire them.

I could see this happening, and wished we had. I agree with both of these. Philip's father was guard in the Gulag. Philip came from pretty much rock bottom, while it seemed like Elizabeth's early life was hard, Philip had it worse. It seems Elizabeth was slighlty better off, but I could be wrong because they never gave us enough backstory on Philip.
