  1. Agreed on every level. Instead of learning to cook Russian food she should be hanging out with peers/classmates at local hangouts or on campus. In a few decades those classmates are going to have important roles in politics, government, and other careers that would make them good sources for information. I had the exact same thought. I've thought since Henry saved himself and Paige from the hitchhiker, snuck into a neighbor's house to play video-games, and is now becoming freinds with the next generation of leaders. Henry is a better all around spy. Years ago someone here made a comparison to Godfather which works even better now. Henry is Michael. He never wanted that life, his parents never wanted that life for him, but we know from very early on in the story he would be amazing at it. If that happens and I really hope it doesn't before you go yell at people, let me know the time and place. I'll be right there with you. Oleg is one of the best things about this show. I'm not sure how much KGB backing the travel agency had. Although if the business was struggling there are probably some deep cover Soviet linked groups the Centre could send to the travel agency. At a private school you have to work hard to get good grades unless you are incredibly smart. If the Centre found out, I am sure they would be willing to send some legal above board business to the agency to keep it afloat and Henry in the private school, not just for long term reasons. Just think about all of the information Philip could get at Parents' weekend, sporting events, and any other activity that involves parents interacting with each other. Philip might wonder about the sudden uptick in business but I am sure the Centre would be very careful and cover thier tracks. I can't answer about boarding schools, but I would imagine it is fairly similar to the day school I went to. Private schools have fewer people, which means a smaller pool to draw from when picking athletes for teams. A student who at a public school might not make the team, may very well make the team at a private school. Philip can now be part of my hypothetical spin-off with Henry, Stan, and Oleg. Philip is so good with disguides and covers, he could be the inside man, like Face from A-Team.
  2. Henry is so underutlized. He was a great well-developed character for a kid with tons of potential that never really went anywhere.
  3. Given how rare divorce was, I am not sure how much of that behavior would have been known or common. I am also not sure how aware Alexandria would have been. I have no idea if she would repeat what her mother said or what did or did not come up in therapy sessions.
  4. I liked this episode and hope they do more similar to it. I don't need to see them save the world from near destruction every week. Saving a life or a family is just as good. I felt so sorry for Ralph. I hope Sly has better luck.
  5. The explanation given on the show is that everyone who is in a position to promote Jamie is worried it will come off as trying to curry favor with the boss. They know that in theory/for the most part, he wants them to treat Jamie like anyone else, expect that it gets tricky with promotion. It will be a few more years before Jack or Sean could be rookies. You have to be older than 18 and have some college or military experience.
  6. I don't think it directly relates. I think it's a parallel/contrast. Philip and Oleg are one side. They are not driven by ideology. Paige and Elizabeth are driven by ideology and the idea of a cause. I'm surprised this didn't get more play in the series. It seemed like something Elizabeth or Claudia might have said. The idea that at one point the Soviet Union was an ally and that they helped defeat Germany/Hitler/Nazis-one of the biggest evils of the 20th Century. The purpose would be to make the Soviet Union seem like the good guys and like less of a big bad to Paige.
  7. That would be a great idea and I loved that scene from the first time I saw it. I've often wonderded who it was stranger for, Sister Monica Joan or Valerie.
  8. The U.S versions of the DVD have all the scenes. They are the full British episodes. The little girl isn't the problem. Her mother/Christopher's ex is the problem. Alexandria at first didn't have a problem with Christopher dating. She liked Trixie and spending time with Trixie. Her mother/Christopher's ex turned Alexandria against Trixie. (It wouldn't be hard to do. Kids that age hope their parents will get back together so her mother easily could have manipulated Alexandria into beleiving that Trixie was the only thing keeping her parents from getting back together. This may not be true at all, but it is something that Alexndria could be convinced of easily).
  9. I'm surprised they didn't mention a guide dog. It could lead to fun and interesting storylines. Also I love dogs so that may have something to do with it too.
  10. I've always thought it would be fun to see an episode made up of flashbacks to when the older nurses and nuns were just starting out. I would love to see what Sister Monica Joan was like when she was younger and interacting with patients on a day to day basis. Yes! It's like no understands divorce. I get it was a big deal and a taboo, but they are acting like they have no idea what it means or how it works. The only way this line makes sense is if refers to his daughter. The idea being that because he has a child with his ex-wife he can never be truly free of the ex, because Alexandria will always be in the picture and a part of his life. Also, I was okay when the episodes were being cut short to talk about the history of what was in the episode. That made some sense. I'm starting to get a bit annoyed that they are cutting scenes for a set tour. These seem like meh special features on a DVD. The best thing to do would be leave the episode intact and mention the set tours/behind the scenes information as a reason to buy the DVD.
  11. My working theory is that the charm came later. We are seeing a slightly different (younger) person from the character we meet in the Cantina during A New Hope. I'm excited for Solo: A Star Wars Story. That being said, I would totally watch a movie about Lando Calrissian. It could be Lando having adventures on his own or a buddy movie with Lando and Han, something like The Sting.
  12. If it was premiditated, then they could try to get him to turn in people higher up in the gang, and then Erin's ex (Jack) might be able to get him a reduced sentence because he cooperated.
  13. I'm not sure if it was something we saw on the show. It could have been something that happened before the show, like Elizabeth took her to see The Nutcracker at the Kennedy Center (or some other venue/production) when Paige was about 10.
  14. That works. I could see them sharing a quiet moment in the Library. There's a hidden depth to both. There's a past they have trouble dealing with/try to keep hidden.
  15. This is only a guess but unless the restraining orders are against people in the field I doubt it. It might impact Sheldon or Raj, but I think you would have to be doing pretty high level stuff before they start investigating associates.
  16. If they kill off Oleg I will be furious. I will yell at my TV and vent like crazy on here.
  17. No, @sistermagpie did and since I had never heard of them before, I decided to ask. It wasn't mentioned in the episode.
  18. So was it more like a slide projector than a movie projector? If there only five photos in a strip, did someone have to be constantly loading the next strip into the projector? What about sound? Was there sound built into the strip? Was there a record that went with it? Did you have to time it just right like Dark Side of Oz or did teachers read from a script? Youth wants to know. Thank you @jjj for answering most my questions on sound. You posted while I was writing. I'm still confused about whether they worked like a movie projector (it runs and the teacher stands there) or more like a slide projector (the teacher has to advance to the next image)
  19. Thank you because I was really confused. That makes me feel better; I wasn't the only one who didn't get what was going on during the scene. Apologies if this makes you feel old. Are filmstrips reels of movie film, like what you would play on old projection equipment? As for her familiarity, I would assume it would have been records or cassette tapes in a music/ music appreciation class in high school. Henry's always been better at reading people and assesing the situation than Paige. But at least Stan gets credit for knowing he is the last person who should be doing this, as opposed to thinking he totally has this covered and knows exactly what to do. It's "Squvirr-rrell" there's a v in there when said with the accent. Actually, I think that might make it more interesting. Instead of coming home knowing exactly what the other did at work because you were in a whole bunch of scenes together, you get to hear about something different. If one of them is worried about a scene, instead of knowing exactly how it turned out because the other was there, he or she can ask a few days later, "how did that scene you were worried about end up, did you figure out the problem", type of stuff. I've seen footage of David Hasslehoff rocking out too, but I don't remember Christmas lights. I'm a few years older than you are, but like you, this something I am aware of from news footage in documentaries, not actual memories. Slightly off-topic, I was in college during the 20th anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall. One of my friends who was a few years ahead of me (my friend did not go right from high school to college, furthering the age difference) said she felt so old, because she could remember the Wall coming down. I had just been discussing the subject of the Wall with my father a few nights before so I told her, "Don't feel old. My father remembers when they built the Berlin Wall." You are right. This is pure television and does not make sense. Yes! This is my problem with the storyline. She should not be in the field for a whole host of reasons, many of which you just listed. The goal is for her to have a job in a government office, so she can meet with someone like Elizabeth or Philip and give them information. There are some skills she would need, like how to avoid detection, how to spot someone following her, but the missions they have her doing do not make sense with the future plans of the Centre. I totally agree with all of this. I had a friend in college who had a theory. If you look like you are under the age of 30 and are wearing a college hoodie, you can be in a public place reading anything and no one will give it a second look. You could read Mein Kampf and people would think it's for a class on WWII, the Holocuast, European History, Totalitarianism, or any number of subjects. Yes! This is my question too. The goal for the second generation like Paige is for her to have the job, not sleep with the person who has the job. And I would add students as well. As an elective, Paige could be taking a literature class, where she meets someone majoring in foriegn relations (some electives bring together people from different majors). That friend could become very useful 20 to 30 years later. As in, "Let's meet for coffee." and then get her talking about work. Instead of crazy spy missions they should be trainng her how to conduct subtle interrogations. How to get people to reveal more information than they intended, how to read between the lines.
  20. He was on trial for robbery and murder-that's what he was charged with. I don't think they can suddenly add on new charges once the trial is underway (any lawyers/people more familiar with the legal system chime in if you feel like it). I think if the DA wanted to he could charge him with identity theft and a whole bunch of other stuff in a new/seperate trial.
  21. I had totally forgotten about that. I was really looking forward to seeing everyone's reaction to it as well, especially Oleg's.
  22. It seemed like Trixie didn't understand divorce. She doesn't strike me as the type who believes the storyline you see in movies where a divorced couple or a couple on the verge divorce get back together and live happily ever after. I thought the exact same thing. I actually really liked that they took it in a total different direction. That being said, the end was heartbreaking.
  23. I'm glad you got my point. The maturity difference between 15 and 17 can be light-years depending on the kid.
  24. Maybe what they learned from Paige was that around 13 or 14 isn't the best time to make the approach.
