  1. I agree. Also, I am a total idiot for misreading the list of Best Picture Nominees.
  2. Since seasons tend to take place over a short amount of time, they could set it during a school break. Thanksgiving break is usually a little less than a week but some students can extend it based on class schedule (if Thanksgiving break starts on Tuesday, but a student doesn't have classes on Monday, they could leave the Saturday before Thanksgiving). There's also winter break which tends to be closer to 3-4 weeks, spring break is usually a week.
  3. Both sides have valid points. I wished Nancy had pointed out that Jonathan was given real substantive work to do. Almost everytime we saw Jonathan at the paper he was in the darkroom alone, which means he is trusted with real responsibilities. However Nancy is making coffee and taking lunch orders. She is not given serious work to do. Sexism is a major problem for her. Meanwhile, there is also this very real class divide which others have noticed. Jonathan did an excellent job of articulating the class issue. I wish Nancy had been able to do a better job of pointing out the sexism she faced at the newspaper.
  4. I am thrilled with all of the Oscar nominations but Greta Gerwig not nominated for directing is a major snub. This movie also should have been nominated for best picture. At first I wasn't sure about the flashbacks, and then realized it was brilliant. It allows the viewer to make clear contrasts between the past and present and clearly demonstrates how the past informs the present. Also, the fact that the flashbacks had a yellowish nostalgic tint to them made it clear to me when we were in the past and when it was present day for the characters. I loved the way they showed a clear contrast to how still and quiet the Lawerence home was with how noisy and active the March household was.
  5. This movie deserves all of the Oscar nominations it received.

    Joker (2019)

This movie did not deserve 11 nominations. At best, it deserved these two. Performance by an actor in a leading role - Joaquin Phoenix Achievement in costume design - Mark Bridges
  7. Under the new proposed system, I thought below a certain number of points, someone was automatically going to the Bad Place. Above a certain number of points, someone was automatically going to the Good Place. For people who fell in the middle, it would be a chance to redeem themselves.
  8. Frank was looking into classifying suicide as death in the line of duty. He thought religious groups may have something to say about that, and wanted to hear what they had to say as he was crafting this new policy. I am sure he would also talk to mental health professionals as well. However, a converation with mental health professionals would not have the same visual impact as a room full of clergy representing different religions (It's the creative team's way of saying: Look! We have diversity! It's the modern 21st century multicultural police force).
  9. I love that Anthony is the Reagan whisperer. It just appeals to me. What Frank should have done is told the widow she could have the report, but warn her there was damaging information about her husband in there, and then let her figure out if she wanted to know the full story or not.
  10. I loved that we got to see Disco Janet's void, and that she marbelized into a disco ball marble. I know we'll probably never get to actually hear the story, but I'll bet it would be fantastic.
  11. The part about people in NYC not having drivers' licenses is absolutely true. I can't imagine that people in NYC don't have some type of non-driver ID, because they would it for air travel or to prove that they are over 18 or 21. It's hard to believe that most New Yorkers would opt for passports over the non-driver ID card. Back to the episode: Although I wasn't thrilled with Tammy when she first appeared on this series, I am now happy she is part of the cast. Overall, I enjoyed this episode.
  12. That's exactly what I thought. If I remember correctly, there was a line about pulling dresses, which meant they were going to be put aside, and then Robin would come in later or another day to try them on and pick out her favorite.
  13. I thought the Mind Flayer dissolving and reforming was like The Blob, but yours works better for the time period. Personally I got a very Han/Leia from it, and that relationship has its roots in the old screwball romantic comedies or the Tracey/Hepburn movies. I took it as Mike implying that Will hadn't matured into liking girls, but realized it sounded like that he thought Will was gay and then immediately regretted that poor choice of words. In the first season bullies teased Will because they thought he might be gay.
  14. I think it would be cute and fun to see him trying to earn money to buy tickets to a Rolling Stones concert to impress a girl. As for the actual episode, I thought it was okay.
  15. This is true. I saw a magazine recently with Nancy Pelosi on the cover and it looked like she borrowed an outfit from Mary Richards. Last month I walked by a window of a fancy dress store and one of the outfits in the window had bell bottoms. It looked like something Diana Ross would have worn while performing in Vegas in the 1970s. One of Danny's sons is in a parochial school, which costs more than a public school but is often less expensive than an independant/non-religiously affiliated private school. The older son is in college far away from New York.
  16. I like seeing the conversation where Bull tells Benny what they are looking for and then we see Benny asking the jury pool questions to find the right people. I'm always dissapointed when that kind of scene is not in the episode.
  17. I agree. My understanding was that Christy and Baxter agreed it was best for Roscoe to live with Baxter and Candace, but that she could still see him. Other shows have done a much better job about dealing with characters that are no longer on-screen. They mention the character every once in awhile, so it feels like the character still exists, even though you don't see them. They could have done this on Mom. Christy needs to answer a text from Roscoe, or Christy can't do something because she has plans with Roscoe, or any number of variations on that. This is a major problem for the show. The writers just need to give us a quick line or two to explain the situation with Roscoe. They tied up Violet's storyline pretty well.
  18. Maybe, but since Olaf seems to get along pretty well with Sven, I do not see it being a problem.
  19. That's where I thought the episode was going. I was sure it was going to end with Eddie requesting a transfer so she could be on day shift at another precinct, so she and Jamie could spend more time together. Eddie thought she wanted them to be at the same place, but people sometimes make mistakes, or what you thought you wanted didn't work out as well as you hoped it would.
  20. This is completely true. What I find interesting is that the each boy's lack of social skills bothers the mother more than the kid. Sheldon and Billy do not care too much if the other kids think they are strange or wierd. The more I think about it, the more I want Sheldon and Billy to go on an adventure on thier own (no idea what both of them would want to do) and for the mothers to freak out when they realize both children are missing.
  21. At the end, Elsa goes to live in the enchanted forest with her mother's people. What I liked about the ending is that even though they are no longer living together, the sisters still have a close relationship. Elsa isn't in a self-imposed exile in the enchanted forest. It seems like game night or other activities at the palace are a regular thing for Elsa. Also, I want to see Kristoff and Sven interact with Elsa's ice-horse in a short film.
  22. In his own strange way, he was actually showing some positive social interaction skills. He was willing to let Billy talk about what he was interested in, even though it was not something that interested Sheldon. Not only was Sheldon letting Billy talk about it, but Sheldon was not zoning out and thinking about other subjects. He was fully engaged and present in the conversation.
  23. I can't decide if this is brilliant, or wrong on so many levels.
  24. Fred without the ascot bothers me. I know it's no longer 1969, but he doesn't quite look right without it. That being said, I'm ready to see this movie.
