  1. I’d guess ghosts would be all over everywhere. Death is generally evenly spread out, excepting the occasional battleground or disaster.
  2. Yes. It is unfair. I was just saying it is possible to do it in a number of ways and even perhaps not being aware of it.
  3. Yes, it is a stage term. Not quite true about film and tv. An actor can mute his performance to let someone else shine. Or not. So X may be the lead but the editors may subtly prefer the takes that have more Marilyn and less Norma Jean.
  4. ‘Hog the spotlight’ is done by acting. Moving into the light while someone else is having their monologue and making funny gestures behind their back (which attracts the audience’s attention) as one exaggerated example.
  5. I think they are carving out a chunk of Gaiman shows, so this has a chance to last at least until they have to pay people real money. You know, come for Sandman and you may also like…. This seems to occupy the same general space as Lockwood and Co and I liked that better.
  6. Maybe Lorien can come over from Babylon 5 occasionally to ferry the star trek folk with god complexes, past the rim.
  7. I think Moldaver’s people arranged the wedding via 32 after the residents of 32 all died from overpopulation or mass hysteria. Or both. my guess is that they were thinking the world was going to blow up anyway. They wanted the advantage.
  8. I believe that the Federatuon feels a responsibility for the planets and races they contact and would therefore make sure they are okay, when possible. Even 31. That is why I think long term contact would be established on some level with the planet. (sigh) the Prophets of the bajorans, however powerful, are wormhole aliens. Science generally would say they can be known, although maybe not by us, now. Michael is looking for our creator and God is an alien, as it turns out, with the power to create life. Who should have this power? If Michael gets the prize will she be a god. No she won’t. Nor was she a god when worshipped as the red angel. It is sort of a theme in star trek. But no. They are not turning into gods, even if people worship them. this is my opinion. Of course. But i do argue that turning into a god like being may be a trope in science fiction, but rarely, if ever, turning into a god.
  9. No. No it would not. Good gravy. Unless you are using ‘scifi’ in a sarcastic and contemptuous way. Turning into something that appears to primitives to be godlike can be science fiction. Exploring an unknown feeling or idea can be science fiction. also you need to fix before you can maintain and the federation will likely maintain contact with these folk, now that the secret is out.
  10. Keith and Veronica both made friends with someone and violated that trust, Veronica predictably gets rejected and Keith is forgiven.Every season they do something like that, to remind us they are basically the same person,. Yeah, he probably will lighten up, especially after Veronica spends most of her time out of town. You know how Lynn Echolls ended up becoming an alcoholic while staying with her kid, trying to get away from Aaron and finally killing herself when Logan turned 16 and could become an emancipated minor—which, of course, he didn’t? If Logan had lived that is where Veronica was headed. She is codependently locked into what is an abusive relationship, Logan is fixated on her as part of his way to look normal to the outside world, and they are not breaking up. She was going toi end up living down the street from Wallace, with children. She would pull away from alcoholism, I think, but I don’t think her future was good if Logan lived. Douchebag and Jackass are cute names for malignant narcissist at best, sociopath at worse.
  11. I get that and it is a good point. On the other hand They did retrofit discovery. When Stamets is able to work on Fred because he is a packrat, he has saved old stuff from before the retrofit and it makes sense that older trch would still be in use. There is the personal transporter. The managed to upgrade the drive quickly. Then, it is hard to tell what 31 has suppressed and what they have encouraged. They may be rediscovering stuff first used before the burn. they allude to change but don’t focus on it. People are the same.
  12. Societies have usually changed with glacial slowness. Right now we are living in an extremely unusual period. Will technology continue to change that fast and have a major impact on society as a whole? You have a phone now, it may be a chip inserted under the skin of your wrist at some point, but how different will its function be? Of course, I saw TOS when it first came out, and I’d read a lot of science fiction before that time, and most of the ideas in TOS were not new. Also, like all star trek, it has the structure of a parable and the characters encounter things that illuminate our current society. They don’t encounter things that are totally alien to us. TNG ran into primitive cultures, including twentieth century analogues, all the time. DS9 was different, but it had Nazis and Machiavellian mysogenists. Stargate had a weather tower show. Also ran into a lot of primitive cultures and simplistic ones. Lower Decks mines past shows shamelessly. So does SNW. After the burn I imagine a lot of places, without contact and imports, slid back to something surviva le. Some probably lost enough so they forgot. Meanwhile some aspect of the Federation worked at not losing more ground. It makes sense. In addition, I think everything this season is in service to the characters and giving them the sendoff they would have gotten if the show had lasted longer.
  13. Without Michael’s coaching earlier Tilly would never have made it. It was oddly moving to see them back together as friends. This is kind of callback is what this season is about. I’m betting Tilly needs to become captain of a cadet ship. Book is pining. Awww. the strong sense I get about this season is that it is about the journey, not the prize. Everyone is learning about themselves.
  14. Well, I haven’t paid a log of attention to the game and wasn’t watching any pre nmedia for the show, so imagine my surprise when it is based on Ellison’s novella, “A boy and his dog’. Whiuch is a remarkably moving, well written story which has a pretty finished, stable bit of worldbuilding. Of course, everyone wanted more from him, and he produced a little. So I s[ent the first half of this looking for a reason why this existed. So far it is mildly entertaining and I’m somewhat engaged by some characters, but the world building has not surpassed, or even caught up with, the original. We are shown everything that poor puppy went through, but so far, no real character development. If he is telepathic, well read and so on, it is not evident. The vaults don’t make a lot of sense. Are there backup pods of people? How many times have the pod populations been replaced? I agree that Lucy talked about the gene pool, so that should be something the general population of the vaults is concerned with and I wondered if they had let the surface dwellers in for that reason, but haven’t seen any evidence that was what 31 did. So far the show was entertaining, in part because Amazon threw a lot of money at it and got good actors, but ….. um…….that seems about it. Iwant to know more about great uncle peter.
  15. And it is Michael’s show. Tos is Kirk’s show. Which is why when we also get to know another character on Discovery, it is Book. it is her five year journey.
  16. Honestly my point was that, similar to Reeves and Moss in the Matrix, zebdaya and Chalamet look to be of a similar and fluid gender. In the Matrix the look is there for a fairly obvious reason. In this movie, possibly it is as well. Paul is the ine who can see both his male and female lines. actors lying about their height seems kind of ‘80s. Anyway, irrelevant. The others are presented as very male and don’t seem short. It is a movie.
  17. I wondered that too, since she could have found something to put the head in, like she could have made a bindle out of the guy’s shirt, since he was no longer using it. If everyone is looking for the head, just dumb.
  18. Hasn’t that ‘some enchanted evening’ shtick been used somewhere else? Slow motion, mass death? Lucy looks a lot like her Dad, it helps with the connection.
  19. Impossible oysters and Beyond Tuna are a possibility, I think oysters might actually be something that could be used in maintaining vault ecosystems, though. if the ‘pods’ hold people in stasis fields, there could be rooms of canned food in stasis, but it is more likely that each vault put aside some resources to make fake meat and fish. I assume the knights are the result of another company’s vaults, like Vault 4 was another company;s vaults. I think that Max made sense, as a traumatized four or five year old who want security and thinks the knights are his heroes. He believes what they say, and they wouldn’t want to put him in power, but he makes a good underling. I imagine the older knights hang onto power as long as they can and it isn’t unusual to have an older squire and squires that don’t become knights, or die before they become knights. It took a while for me to get really interested in what was happening, by which I mean invested in the characters. I think I’m more interested in what is happening in the different vaults than the post apocalyptic nonsense. I wonder if the ghouls are the result of research into anti radiation and longevity research, possibly we will find out that Coop was taken into That Vault. It doesn’t seem like anyone except management would get put in stasis.
  20. Yes, I think Coop is being confused with Dale Cooper
  21. It seem to be. Maybe the vaults are like terrorist cells. Group of three, one takes care of the others. NOt sure.
  22. Apparently the vaults overpopulate , kill each other, and are recolonized. is Ellison ever acknowledged in the game itself, because I haven’t played it. Clearly Cooper and his poster ‘a man and his dog’ makes it clear the tv people know the roots of the story.
