I saw this for the second time. Boy, there is no gender dimorphism between Timothee and Zendaya, although Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin and so on are great, hulking men. Also, I wonder if they could have included more mixed races. I do realize that the Harkonnen being all black and the Atreides white would not be a good look, just like having the Baron H be a predatory lover of boys, as he is in the book, would not be a good idea, but I wish they had taken the opportunity to mix up the races more. As they would be in real life, that many years in the future. The ‘white savior’ myth doesn’t actually require ‘white’. In the books Feyd Rautha was not a mad, psychotic person (Beast was well presented) that everyone cheered for because they were scared of him. Maybe Machiavellian, but not full blown psychotic. I know in the books we find out the Baron is wired to enjoy pain, and in the movie Feyd is so wired. It is a good thing Jessica and Paul missed that gene. I understand why the timeline was compacted, but I think it really hurts the story. A few months of fighting as opposed to years of fighting together, married into the group, lost a child in the war, those things form different bonds. The mouse is still the cutest thing. .

That exactly is the issue, I think. People want TNG and they are getting something more like TOS but with a woman in the lead. Also I don’t think TNG was as much of an ensemble show as they think.

Interesting about the Breen. The shape of the helmets remind me of dogs but that is an interesting twist. I wonder if it is possible mirror Spock will have made a mark in this future.

No, of course not, but there are different kinds of jobs. Anyway, a lot of detectives are characterized as being obsessed. They neglect their families and personal lives and end up not listening to their bosses one time too many, at which point they become hard drinking, hard core PIs with a soft spot for women who need help. Maybe their old partner, who is still on the force, is killed and they are the only one who cares enough to give the partner’s wife closure….

A remarkably transactional, even sociopathic interaction. I I would worry about the kid that made it, if they were serious. If the women is compassionate to the cat, she is a compassionate person and likely has moments with the child as well. And the child is being modeled respect for other living creatures. I think sometimes a commercial can be taken at face value.

I think, possibly?, but I could have missed it. They spent a lot of time on that backstory, given there are established characters that need attention. I read an interview that said that the people on the Discovery would end up in unexpected places at the end of this season. I wonder if Michael will go off with Book to do something, leaving Discovery to her new number one? I also wonder if Culber and Stamets will move to the Academy show with Tilly. Will Tilly end up captaining a teaching ship for the academy? Anyway, I assume everyone will go to Saru’s wedding….

Yeah, Wilson should have broken off with house a long time ago. Of course now…. It is hard. It is also realistic. Cuddy had to absolutely accept house wasn’t going to change. She needed him and he knew it and it makes emotional sense. i do agree that the show stopped being, well, fun? But I think the characters were consistent.

Or you can consider that House is a fairly abusive narcissist and this is part of the drawn out struggle that Cuddy has to get out of their codependent relationship. House has toxic relationships. Maybe she should have realized nothing would ever change before this incident, but this brought it into focus.

They are a series of books that I read and enjoyed. Less socially appropriate than either movie or show, but great characters.

This was a fantastic way to remind us of the distance discovery and its inhabitants have traveled, changed, while making many nods to star treks past.

I just saw this yesterday. I will remember this movie, for sure. Everyone in the gtoup I saw it with wanted the prequel movies, but ai think it stands on its own.

I think the deputy and Liv storyline have made the most progress, except for maybe Harry himself. There is actual growth and the healing of trauma and there are other changes in their lives, as well.
