  1. Dr. Cox (Scrubs) - "I love this moment so much I want to have sex with it"
  2. The Soul Train scene in I'm Gonna Get You Sucka is hysterical.
  3. I kinda love the idea of Torchwood reverse engineering alien tech, getting patents and selling it to the public which would give one explanation for how they fund themselves. I think there was an episode of ST: Voyager with a plot like that. I wonder if Jack would be willing to use his knowledge from the future to make investments.
  4. Wow, Celia got pretty nasty in how she described Gillian's situation with Raff and the baby. She really can be quite judgmental and petty. It struck me that Gillian are alike in that they both can say really nasty things without thinking. I'm curious why Kate isn't considering adoption since she's had 4 miscarriages.
  5. So it looks like solar is the way to go. Can an amateur easily learn to repair a solar panel because even if you found something already set up it will eventually break down?
  6. Does anyone know anywhere in the country that uses a lot of wind and/or solar power. Can amateurs learn how to mange that kind of tech? What about some old school steam tech? Could someone go into a library and figure out to make a steam engine? I had a really morbid idea for transportation using zombies to pull wagons. They would also provide protection because their scents would mask the smell of the living they are transporting. I just can't decided if that is too disrespectful of the dead and that just killing the would be more proper than finding a way to make zombies useful. Still everyone should copy Michonne's zombie guard technique when they have to travel anywhere. I was thinking about houseboats which would allow people to escape with their shelter and supplies if an attack by humans or zombies happened.
  7. Owen shooting Jack in EOD is more forgivable for me if Owen already suspected Jack was immortal. You're right as the team doctor he would have noticed Jack's fast healing.
  8. The Notebook has that amazing love scene.
  9. That's a good point. If the writing were better, Laurel might be more interesting and likeable. It's hard for an actress to rise above crap writing like having her character ignore 3 warnings and endanger herself to save files leading to another character to be killed.
  10. I feel like Adrift required that other characters be stupid. I think it would have made more sense for Tosh to stumble onto something and dig into it. This could have been a Tosh episode.
  11. What the hell happened to Flat Holm? Who is funding it and managing it while Jack and Gwen are all over the place? What happened to the patients who desperately needed care?
  12. @Dizzy76 you really captured why giving Rex immortality through Jack's blood was so frustrating. It made no sense. If Jack's blood could make people immortal, that Torchwood would have figured that out in all the decades he worked for them. I hate the idea of changing Parting of the Ways and what Rose did. I hate that the characters I loved got permanently killed while Rex who got on my nerves gets immortality.
  13. That version of Torchwood seemed like it might actually be competent. I think a great idea for an anthology series would have been a look at Torchwood through the eras. Each episode would showcase Torchwood in a different year dealing with a variety of threats with Jack as the only character in every episode since he was there for so long. Torchwood itself had the potential to be a fascinating story, but in the end the show was Gwen's story. RTD decided she had to be the focal point and that everything else was expendable. Torchwood itself and Jack who has lived through so much of its existance should have been the stars of the show. Since the crown created Torchwood, does the Queen have authority over the organization? How is Torchwood funded? Can you really be beyond the government if it helped create you and pays your bills? Did the government really leave Torchwood, its wealth of information, and useful tech to it's own devices, especially after the screw up of Canary Wharf? A take over of Torchwood by the government wouldn't have been that difficult when dealing with just Torchwood 3. They were undermanned and overworked. In COE, their hub was easily destroyed. A spy could have infiltrated to steal info and tech because Torchwood 3 was very vulnerable.
  14. Jack never bothered to change his name, his appearance didn't change enough to pass as someone else, and he stuck close to the rift. His immortality was not a well kept secret. I imagine Ianto would have at least heard rumors especially since Jack had a big personality and was likely to make an impression. Plus, as an junior archivist Ianto had access to info. I felt Fragments implied that Ianto did some research before approaching Jack. Ianto seemed to be trying to entice Jack and wouldn't not know that flirting with Jack was a possible strategy unless he'd had some prior info on Jack.
  15. I feel like Torchwood itself was a character worth exploration with it's wealth of history and tech but that was lost with COE. Now Torchwood is just a name.
  16. I think Jack's attitude towards TW1 was hypocritical. He told The Doctor in The Sound of Drums that he wanted to recreate Torchwood into something better as a kind of tribute to The Doctor, but doesn't acknowledge he was part of Torchwood since before Canary Wharf. Jack was part of the TW corruption (ex: 456 children exchange) and acts as if the negatives of Torchwood's past have nothing to to with him. Jack is guilty of horrible things and was able to redeem himself, and he forgives his team even when their errors are catastrophic. TW1 survivors only got contempt from Jack. He didn't reach out to them to help them with the trauma, didn't retcon them, and didn't monitor them to make sure they weren't threats. He aggressively ignored them with allowed Ianto to get away with a lot when he was trying to save Lisa. Jack took the TW1 tech but abandoned the people. That seemed like a stupid security risk and a waste of people who could be a valuable resource.
  17. The edits in Rope aren't noticeable. Speaking of Hitchcock he had a crane specially built so he could do that shot in Notorious where starts at the top of the stairs and zooms down to the key in Ingrid Bergman's hand. I have to mention the single tracking shot at the beginning of Touch of Evil. Goodfellas has that amazing single Steadicam shot. Serenity has a one shot opening with I think only one edit that isn't noticeable. They were forced to do the edit since different parts of the ship were on different sets. I have a ton of respect for camera men and actors who can pull off those long tracking shots. One error and they have to start over. I love directors who are willing to do it.
  18. @xaxat shared this awesome breakdown of Micheal Bay's film style. It gave me an idea for a thread focusing on discussing certain shots, film styles, cinematography, editing, camera movement, digital vs. film etc... All genres a welcome for discussion. I remember a critic talking about the lack of stillness in a Micheal Bay movie. The shots are quick and there's always movement. If the actor isn't moving than the camera is. It's constant stimulation. I really hate how fights are shot in the Bourne movies because the camera moves too much. I feel like I can't see what's going on. I have respect for good fight choreography and so it bugs me the Bourne films won't let me actually properly see the fight. Are they hiding bad fight choreography or is it supposed to be more interesting shot in that chaotic way? I just want the camera to stay still so I can better absorb what I'm looking at.
  19. I think part of the problem is that the focus of Torchwood was Gwen and that that meant Jack's story got shortchanged. I would happily watch a prequel that focused on the time between when Jack first started working at Torchwood to when we meet him again in Everything Changes. A pre-Doctor Who prequel showing Jack at the Time Agency and why he has two missing years would be a great topic for a miniseries. Unfortunately, I don't' think RTD would ever give us something that Jack centric because for RTD all roads Gwen's story.
  20. That's a good point about Ianto having mixed feelings about The Doctor. It makes me more irritated that Ianto and The Doctor never got any good interaction. I think Ianto would have a lot of mixed feelings about Torchwood 1 as well. He worked for them, but their mistakes gave the Cybermen access that cost Lisa her life. Jack made it clear he despised Torchwood 1 in Fragments, but he spent 100 years working for Torchwood with it's anti-Doctor agenda. Now I have a new theory that Jack may have stuck with Torchwood to maybe protect The Doctor.
  21. I lot of Torchwood and Jack's origins are connected to Doctor Who. I think it's a good idea to have a thread devoted to discussion of Doctor Who episodes that are connected to Jack and Torchwood's story. I have this whole theory on how The Doctor is indirectly responsible for getting Ianto killed because he got Harriet Jones removed as Prime Minister in The Christmas Invasion. If she had been Prime Minister she would have fought the 456 and used Torchwood as a resource. I know that @Captanne wants to discuss Tooth and Claw which contains the birth of Torchwood. It's kind of amazing that there would be no Torchwood without The Doctor making Queen Victoria see him as a threat
  22. I have this whole theory on how The Doctor is indirectly responsible for getting Ianto killed because he got Harriet Jones removed as Prime Minister in The Christmas Invasion. If she had been Prime Minister she would have fought the 456 and used Torchwood as a resource. I wish we could discuss the Doctor Who episodes that have impact on Torchwood here. I might start a thread for that.
  23. So You Think You Can Dance - Ramalama Bang Bang https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bj5qoo9kQRM So You Think You Can Dance - Gravity So You Think You Can Dance - If it Kills me Fresh Prince - Apache Bunheads - Makin Whoopee Bunheads - Istanbul (Not Constantinople)
  24. I just love Diggle. He has the best line delivery.
  25. Why did Jack stay with Torchwood? He didn't need to be part of them to wait for the doctor. What I really want more info on is the back story of COE when Jack is apparently so dark that he's selected to complete the sale of 12 children to the 456? Why does he have such a negative reputation and what other horrible things was he part of? I feel like the writers didn't think of the implications of Jack participation in what happened to those children.
