  1. I loved Twist of Faith. You are so right about the chemistry. I like that the "too soon' issue was addressed and his mother's response.
  2. I did [/*img], So, I'm not sure why it came up as a hyperlink. @Sakura12 Poor Roy, he like the little brother they like to tease.
  3. It looks like the Sleepy Hallow writers, The Mystery of Laura writers, and even Gail Simone are getting involved. So much epic fun.
  4. @Morrigan2575 shared this in the behind the scenes thread because the Gotham writers and Arrow writers are playfully debating who gets Felicity. EBR says Felicity will go where the gadgets go.
  5. There's a great behind the scenes video I'm looking for. It was of some the cast of Arrow singing Summer Nights from Grease in the bathroom. Does anyone have the link?
  6. It occurs to me that the big misstep of the writers is that they decided the writing for Laurel would be inspired by Rachel Dawes of Nolan's Batman instead of the Black Canary herself. Rachel Dawes was not the right fit to become the Black Canary.
  7. I just though of a really interesting triangle that worked for me. Daria had a triangle with Daria/Tom/Jane. It was really well done and didn't shy away from how rough the situation was on both Jane and Daria. Basically Daria and Jane's boyfriend fell for each other which of course hurt Jane deeply. The build up happened over several episodes. Daria initially hated Tom because she felt like Jane was ditching her for him. He makes the effort to befriend Daria for Jane's sake and eventually feeling developed. I like the fact that it took time for the Daria/Jane friendship to be repaired and that even after that what happened wasn't forgotten. It did come up again more than once. Plus, it inspired one of my favorite Trent/Daria scenes where he tells her she and Tom having feelings for each other is on one's fault, but she had to stop playing stupid about it. Somehow Trent managed to be a solid brother to Jane and good friend to Daria by trying in his own way to smooth things over between them. It was a good triangle because I felt everyone was sympathetic, and no one was made into a villain.
  8. I think Ianto's goal was to pique Jack's interest, and he dressed and acted with that in mind. But that failed because Jack's hatred of Torchwood 1 trumped his initial interest in Ianto. When Ianto shows up again in the suit, he's no longer trying to appeal to Jack in a romantic way but trying to show his all business side trying to show how useful he'd be to Torchwood 3. Then, there's the moment that changes things between Jack and Ianto. In the effort to capture Myfanwy, Ianto drops the act and has a real moment of connection with Jack. For all Ianto's efforts, it's the real him and the genuine spark between him and Jack that gets him the job and not his manipulations. That devastates Ianto because it was supposed to be all about LIsa, but he felt something for Jack that betrays her. He probably also felt guilt for bonding with Jack under false pretenses.
  9. Thanks, @Dandesun. I will give Austenland another chance and try my best to appreciate it on it's own without comparing it to the book.
  10. I found it interesting that in previous episodes FOOTR and SB Ianto spoke of his father in a positive light but in COE there's clearly some bad stuff between Ianto and his Dad. Is that the usual crap continuity or is Ianto's history with his father supposed to be complicated? Also, I don't think Ianto ever mentions his mother. Is there a reason for that or am I giving this more thought than the writers?
  11. I accept that changes will be made when the transition from book to screen happens but sometimes essentials get changed that just ruin it. I have only sat through 7 minutes of Austenland because it just bugged too much the way they've completely rewritten who the lead character was as a person. In the book, she hides her well worn copy of Pride and Prejudice because Austen was her guilty pleasure, and she ends up going to Austenland because a relative who figured out her secret left her the money specifically for the trip. She alternates between being bemused, enjoying, and sometimes feeling stifled by the faux Austen world. In the movie, she decorates her apartment in tribute to Austen and has a huge cutout of Darcy that she even kisses at one point. She spends her life savings to go to Austenland. She fucking walks through the airport in costume. The woman of the book and of the movie are completely different leaving me weary about what else they may have changed. Can anyone else whose seen it tell me if it's worth watching beyond that first worrisome 7 minutes? I kinda felt like the movie was mocking Austen fans while the book was kinder about Austen fandom while playing with the idea of how love of a fantasy can keep you from finding love in reality.
  12. I can understand how you feel @Captanne. COE felt like an end for me and MD as something altogether different. I don't know what they were trying to accomplish my making Ianto look like a liar especially since they made him make a point to say that he told Jack everything in Day 4. Was it supposed to make fans feel okay with his death because that certainly backfired.
  13. My sisters and I love Bugsy Malone so much that one Christmas one of my sisters bought us the dvd and the soundtrack. It's such a fun movie. When I was little, I wanted to live in that world where the kids were grownups.
  14. The total lack of urgency to replace skilled employees is just so odd.
  15. @indeed Do you have a link to that essay about the team/family dynamics? Jack really is a terrible recruiter for Torchwood. I remember describing him once as the venus flytrap of recruitment. He doesn't seem to be actively looking for qualified people to bring into the organization. He just waits for these people to stumble on his path.
  16. Exactly, Fragments made it clear that Jack did a background check on Ianto and that Ianto knew about it. Trying to make Ianto into a liar after he's dead and can't defend himself just pissed me off and left me bewildered since it made no sense with what we'd seen before.
  17. I am also truamatized by HIMYM and worry that Oliver/Laurel are endgame no matter how much it doesn't make sense with what I've seen on screen. On the other hand, Dawson's Creek is an example that gives me hope that writers can change their minds when the original end game pair isn't working as they thought it would and a better option is available. So I'm all torn between dread and hope. I ship Oliver/Felicity but would not be angry if Oliver/Sara were end game as I can see the advantages to both pairings and am interested in all their stories. Laurel on the other hand does not work for me with Oliver. The chemistry isn't there and the story is problematic. I don't udnerstand why she would want Oliver after the serial cheating including her sister. I really prefered Laurel/Tommy. If they had to have Oliver involved with sisters that I agree with what another poster suggested. Sara should have been Oliver's girlfriend and Laurel should have been the dsiapproving sister who figured out he was cheating. Then when he returns from the island Laurel would see that he's a changed man but loyatly t to her sister keeps her from anything beyond friendship with Oliver while she can't help falling for the good man he is becoming. Then, Oliver/Sara hooking up in season 2 would be less icky and disrespectful to Laurel.
  18. I think the Gillian and Caroline friendship is one of my favorites on tv. They really are becoming sisters. I do think Caroline's concern about Gillian/Robbie is understandable. That whole situation is a ticking time bomb. The closer Robbie/Gillian get the guiltier she feels and if she slips and tells him he could be vindictive. In the end, I feel like Caroline was the vulnerable one when it comes to Kate. I feel like Kate could move on from Caroline, but Caroline would pine for Kate. I was so happy when Kate came back. I loved Alan's boy band tribute to his bride. I pity John/Judith's baby. I'm getting whiplash over Alan's attitude towards Gillian. He was so contemptuous of his daughter just a couple of episodes ago and now they are back to their warm relationship. It doesn't feel organic at all.
  19. There really should be strict disease protocols. For example at the prison, anyone who was sick should have been quarantined immediately before the disease could spread even if it seems like a minor cold. There should be two quarantines for people who have symptoms and for people who have no symptoms but were exposed. Also, any new people joining the community should have to be quarantined for a few days to make sure they aren't bringing in dangerous diseases. Also, scavenging parties should target all the hospitals and pharmacies to grab all medicine, supplies, and equipment they can carry and keep branching out going to further away hospitals. They shouldn't wait for a crisis to take what's needed but should already be getting everything they can just in case. In general, there needs to be more long range thinking and preparations for the future.
  20. @Captanne The Families inserted Jack's blood into the Giant Vagina which caused the worldwide immortality. Since the Giant Vagina is mimicking what happens to Jack in all humanity why doesn't the world also have Jack's healing ability? Meanwhile Rex's gets Jack's healing ability. The worldwide immortality doesn't work like Jack's at all which makes the fact that it's supposed to come from him confusing to me. Why does Rex get it while the world does not?
  21. I think the writers saw Ianto as only an appendage to Jack and did not realize the stories Ianto's background could generate. Even if Jack and Ianto broke up Ianto still would be interesting on his own, but the writers did not see that. Ianto died to serve Jack's story, but I don't think it served the show as a whole. The Team could have worked as three. Ianto did not have to die. Plus, I'm sick of Jack constantly having to suffer either physically or emotionally. Ianto alive could have served Jack's story too if that's the only purpose the writers had for Ianto. Jack hates Torchwood 1, but Ianto would probably had some loyalties there. The conflict that could have erupted in a Torchwood 1 storyline could have been great to watch.
  22. I totally think Daddy Giles is playing possum. He'll play along while quietly cataloging all the indignities his son is putting him through and then Daddy Giles will annihilate him. He's the type who you kill if you're smart because he'll come after you if you don't. I'm betting he'll undermine his son from the inside and erode his power base.
  23. I also noticed that the Into the Woods trailer seems to be hiding that it's a musical. I found it really odd.
  24. I would so love a prequel showcasing Torchwood 1. I'm disappointed that Submission is the only reunion of Torchwood 1 survivors. I feel like there's a story that could have been told that involved Ianto reconnecting with colleagues from his past.
