  1. you mean in the judging section? Yeah I agree. I guess it didn't matter since she had enough time to make more. But it was very childish of him to be so clumsy.
  2. yeah, I've always gravitated toward pumpkins rather than skeletons for Halloween decor. I'm getting old! Skeletons are a little too close to home!
  3. If so that would fit the old theatre truism "Chekhov's Gun": “If in the first act you have hung a pistol on the wall, then in the following one it should be fired. Otherwise don't put it there."
  4. I would have been so mad at him.
  5. The level of talent this season is amazing. Usually there are a couple of bakers who have a wicked shortbread or chocolate chip cookie, but are really not big on technique. Even Sumayah, whose mirror glaze was a disaster, did a very nice job on her Chihuly homage. Nobody seemed to freak out by the sugar work requirement. There were a couple funny moments with Noel playing off of Brit slang: Mike saying is dessert was "Pollocks" and Christiaan (I think it was) saying that people call him "Wonka. At least that's what I think they call me."
  6. I was surprised to find her writing an advice column (I think it's the Washington Post) and she's about as banal as she is on the show.
  7. I'm not a fan of Andrea. Never have been. I think they have zero *real* chemistry (that is, relationship chemistry). I assume their sex life is just fine.
  8. Oh that one! We care about the water we drink so we should similarly care about the water we pour over our head! I'm sorry, this is just a bridge too far. Curated water for my skin LOL. I don't even know what this magic shower head does but I think it's silly.
  9. ok, I'm a space nerd. I admit it. But this ad has the direction of the sun chasing across the globe completely backwards! It rises earlier in the east than the west, people! (Judy Justice with good old Judge Judy) https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=3829875663924431
  10. yeah it really didn't make sense at all. They wanted the Wizard of Oz theme and then just shoehorned the lab theme into it. I guess the lab stuff was supposed to swirl in the tornado? But honestly, the tornado sticking up out of the cake just seemed awkward. Nobody is eating that thing so what's the point?
  11. That's great! I tried to watch the old one, but the low res was too much for me.
  12. Yeah they were saying "you really got the decorating this time." I was thinking it looked like she threw stuff on the plate.
  13. All I could think of was a flashback to Top Chef: "This is Top Chef, not Top Scallop" "This is the Halloween Baking Championship not the Halloween Sugar Championship"
  14. I did see a blink-and-you'll-miss-it promo for some high resolution DVD of the movie that you can buy.
  15. I just did a little research (that is, I googled it), and there are a lot more Korean people in the US, percentage wise, than in Britain (0.6% vs 0.04%). So it would stand to reason that Americans are genereally more exposed to Korean food, particularly in more urban areas. I'll admit that I only bought my first tub of Gochujang about 5 years ago to make a recipe from the NY Times. My son is now engaged to a woman of Korean heritage, and I'm watching the great Netflix cooking competition set in Korea, so I'm learning even more about Korean food :)
  16. But I think Dylan only got a handshake because Paul thought the Gochujang was so innovative. Which it is, but it's not like no one has ever put it in bread before. I think Paul had just never heard about it *at all*. Anyway, I'll have to look up a recipe for it :)
  17. Oct 7 2024 Surprised a topic wasn't here yet! I love Dylan to death, but I think he got star baker purely because Paul had never tasted Gochujang before! I mean, I've got a tub in my fridge and I'm in no way Asian. Paul can be a bit parochial in his taste, can't he? I wish Nelly had won star baker. She did great this week. This is a really talented bunch. I'm amazed at their range of talents.
  18. whenever my husband sees that ad he says "why didn't you scream like that when we redid our bathroom?" He's not serious.
  19. did you see the one where women are blindfolded and men come nearby--- very 50 shades -- no of course I never read those books LOL
  20. long ago I heard that Britain and the US were two countries separated by a common language :) I remember being confused in a British crime drama, where a suspect complained that the police made him just sit there on his couch in his pants for an hour. (Pants is underpants in Brit usage)
  21. He was a surprisingly fetching woman!
  22. I think the chicken (?) was named Fanny, so that's why she asked "how's your Fanny."
  23. I really noticed that this episode. The way he was talking to the other bakers was more like he's the host -- implying they don't have enough time, etc.
  24. Exactly! I don't think that EVER happens in real life. (It's also like the bad guy confessing everything to James Bond just before he tortures him to death LOL. It's just not believable!)
  25. yeah I'm 63 and have had no work done. I'm a tiny bit on the plump side post-menopause, but think I come across as ... not as old as her
