  1. Savanah (I think?) did the seafood extravaganza? She had a huge pile of seaweed there. I wonder where she got that. I saw her buying little packets. I know they swell up, but she might have spent some $ on enough to make that pile.
  2. I totally agree that eating off the table is ... off-putting to me. But I think Michelle failed on so many levels here. Not just the non-plating. When you get this far in the competition, relying on "comfort-food-plating" isn't going to cut it. It doesn't mean she doesn't make good food- it's just that they are looking for something extra.
  3. KK=Kristen Kish
  4. Yeah some people have the energy and interest to look at "who's cooking" in some event seen in a preview (on Top Chef for example) and guessing who lasts pretty long in the competition. I've seen that treated as a spoiler, and even belonging in a special spoiler thread.
  5. I live in NY and I don't even dress that way in the winter.
  6. I also was surprised about allowing the sous vide thing. I'm sure all the rules are explained to the chefs, even if we don't know them. Didn't Danny have all sorts of lines of tape on his table at the very beginning? In the end he just had the "frame". But it was very clever to use the frame for his sauces. They made a big deal about the whole crew come in simultaneously after Danny had his half hour. But I realized at presentation time that they must have all been staggered by 10 minutes or so for serving. So I guess they had to stand around for awhile. Michelle's was just atrocious. What on earth was she thinking?
  7. you're right. But I find her very annoying. Kind of playing stupid.
  8. Ad for Bobbi Brown cosmetics. I like the overall concept, that women should look natural, wrinkles are ok. But she says this blush or whatever takes "a nanosecond to put on." Really now. You don't need to be ridiculous. Just say it takes a few seconds to put on. Does she know what a nanosecond is? If it takes a nanosecond to put on, you could put it on every day from the time you are twenty until you are 100, and it would total to 0.0000292 seconds.
  9. I have to say, though, his plate looked like dog food.
  10. for me, cis straight woman. it was distracting. Like in-my-face why am I seeing this,
  11. It's funny, I only learned about this thing about a year ago- I signed up for an "Alaska fish" subscription and the spot shrimp came with a recipe card. I like it! But the idea of *beef* in that set of ingredients is just..... weird to me. And I want that carrot slaw recipe too!
  12. is "bread sauce" a thing? I thought I've seen everything, but never heard of this. And yes, I know I could google it; just wondering if this has somehow missed me.
  13. yeah I was fully prepared to not find out until next week in the regular show.
  14. Which i guess tells you that in the traditional boil, the fish is cooked all to hell.
  15. I watched every one of the on-the-beach kerosene throws, and not once did I see the "scum and whatnot" boil over out of the pan. So I agree that it's the spectacle, not the result. I also didn't understand the broth all getting thrown away when the colander type pot was pulled out. One of the chefs (I forget who) DID serve a "broth" type thing. Where did that come from? What the heck was in Danny's carrot salad that everyone went gaga over it? Soo's plate looked like dog food to me. One of the judges (Kristen I think) also said it looked unappetizing. I did feel for him that he got curry powder instead of curry paste. He was pretty explicit that paste was what he wanted ("green or red, either is fine.") I totally agree. Somehow FB thinks I'm interested in this fad of "charcuterie tables" which is a similar idea. All I can think is that 10 minutes after people start picking at it, any attractiveness is gone.
  16. did he? Maybe I missed that but i thought that was just a "story"
  17. I believe "accessory dwelling unit." Could be to rent, could be for family.
  18. All Balance of Nature ads are annoying, but there's a new one with this nice older lady who apparently told her son "if something happens to me, MAKE SURE you keep ordering my Balance of Nature! It's more important than anything else!" Given that the lady will presumably be unable to order it for herself in this future condition, I have this image of her son shoveling the pills into his mom's comatose mouth.
  19. Certainly all three of them gave off a "what the hell, I'm just going to have fun and I'm really not going to die if I don't win this thing" attitude. I think there was probably a gap in time that reminded them that there is life outside of TC (much like the hostages released from The Bachelor/Bachelorette)
  20. I loved the idea of using the sunflower choke, and I immediately started making plans for the sunflowers I just planted on my deck! Until I saw him paring them. What a royal PITA! Maybe just one each for me and my husband :) I rolled my eyes a bit at the comment that "I can tell this wild rice came from my reservation." Um yeah. I thought the way they rolled the QF into the main event removed even a trace of drama from the elimination. It was clear that Michelle was staying, and that at least Amanda was going home. Her making a cranberry sauce when they specifically said "no baked goods, and no sauces" was ridiculous.
  21. reminds me of a nice but ditzy woman on an expensive "expedition" we went on. She had been pulled tight, and definitely had more than a trace of a "Joker" look. Scary!
  22. you could see what Sadie posted just up above. Truly embarassing.
  23. excellent point
  24. They mentioned it again this week. So I assume it will happen at some point.
  25. They really can't do that because (as we saw) the second turn is usually when the *&^% hits the fan, so it's important that *some* judges see each restaurant's second turn. But it would probably be easier to follow if they showed one restaurant (first and second turn) and then the other one. But then again, that might be confusing to the viewer as well.
