Nice article-- funny I saw a reference to horseradish goat cheese. Didn't someone do that in the QF on Wednesday as a riff on the sauce they got? Maybe it's the next avocado toast....

The Golden Bachelor - General Discussion
dleighg replied to ApprenticeFan's topic in The Golden Bachelor
I totally get you. My husband and I are in our mid 60s, in NY state. But we are very involved in our church-- lots of volunteer activities. And we are both introverts. I can't imagine moving away from all of our "connections." -

I wasn't all in on gerry from the beginning (and didn't watch the whole season) but he certainly has come out looking like a real sleeze- 2.6k replies

I think it was too rare (and to my eyes had too much un-rendered fat)

I think it's because katsu is kind of trendy, plus didn't the "real" supper club restaurant do a similar type breaded/fried chicken thing? I'm partial to chicken milanese, myself. I recently made a sortof katsu with chili crisp, and all I could think was "I'm going back to milanese."

Tom had a pretty liberal definition of "sandwich." I would have thought it should be something you could pick up? Fried banana as the "bread"? I definitely thought Kaleena's looked the tastiest. I thought Soo's sandwich was just weird. But I guess it tasted good. As for the bites, I liked Kaleena's best there as well. Once again, Soo's looked odd. But I guess his risks pay off.

Does anyone remember a cooking competition show called "The Taste" where everything had to be presented on a spoon for blind judging? I think Nigella Lawson was one of the judges, and maybe Brian Malarky. It didn't last long LOL. I think these should have been presented on a spoon, myself.

Did anyone see the look Tom gave Charly's pasta when it was sitting on his station? As soon as Tom said that there was one element he didn't like, I knew what it was. Soo definitely has been very creative, so I guess I'm glad he's in. But I still have a bit of a tin foil hat on ...

I forgot to add above, I thought that Rasika should have deferred to Michelle to make what she wanted, given that Rasika had immunity. I know that since Rasika is on a roll, it makes sense to have her do something strong for the team's sake, but Michelle hasn't been a slouch so far either.

I was also flummoxed that Danny loses out on the budget because he's last in line? That makes no sense. At least he was donated some ingredients later, but that's not the way it should work. And all the other chefs saying "sorry" "sorry" "sorry" like "it sucks to be you." Not cool. I noticed when they had their (real) supper club meal, Dan was greeted by the server with "welcome back." Clearly he's a regular (and I gather he's something of a celebrity chef in the area). I was intrigued by the pikliz, and since I happen to have some cabbage in the fridge I decided to make some, potentially for tonight's dinner. All the recipes say to refrigerate it for 3-6 days! I roll my eyes at chefs doing things that they clearly shouldn't be doing based on the time available. So I rearranged my menu planning and we'll have it on Saturday (only two days, but hey...)

Commercials That Annoy, Irritate or Outright Enrage
dleighg replied to Maverick's topic in Commercials
But just think of the increase in product you can sell! Instead of a quick swipe with a (likely) solid product, you've got the entire body as a canvas, and might even be a spray. We all know sprays are convenient (e.g. sunscreen) but WAY less cost-effective than a cream. -

Tournament of Champions - Season 5 Discussion Thread

Sure they don't know who the contestants are, but: Maneet has done well EVERY SINGLE YEAR. So clearly she's likely to be in the final. And despite statements to the contrary, she mostly does cook Indian food. I am too lazy to go back and count, but I would say that it's at least 80% of the time. I am NOT saying she didn't deserve to win. She is a master at the randomizer, and finds ways to use the randomizer items in multiple ways. But I also think that she may get a *bit* of a bump from the judges guessing that it is her, and thinking, the expert is in the house. -
I don't think Christensen has left the "religion." https://www.justjared.com/2023/06/26/10-celebrities-who-left-scientology-12-whove-confirmed-theyre-members-including-1-who-called-it-very-dangerous-another-who-said-theyd-be-dead-without-it/9/

Say What?: Commercials That Made Us Scratch Our Heads
dleighg replied to Lola16's topic in Commercials
I keep hearing an ad (I don't see it because apparently I'm always doing something else). It has a song with lyrics "I feel like new sunglasses, I feel like new blue jeans" or something equally inane. I googled, and maybe it's for Six Flags? I can't find the ad itself. edited to add. It came on YET AGAIN and I looked. It is for Celebrity Cruises, though I still can't find the stupid ad. I guess the tag line is that if you go Celebrity you are spoiled for any other cruise line. I still don't know what that has to do with sunglasses or blue jeans. -
It's not too surprising to hear them both say that the editing overstated their problems. That's pretty typical I think, to make the story.

I sure hope that they have a really good recap. I for one don't remember anything anymore.

I would have thought his full name would have come up in the earlier discussion of how he got his name from Amanda's family. But I can't recall exactly what was said.

I should probably try it. I absolutely loved Endeavour. I started watching episode 1 of Morse and had trouble connecting him to Endeavour. I should give it more time I guess.

Yeah, I'm sensitive (I doubt it is allergy) to wool, and can't wear it next to my skin, but I doubt that arms are more sensitive than the rest of her torso, which is certainly covered.

nice idea! Yeah, the duo or triple is usually the kiss of death.

And I think they are all filmed just before the "return" of whomever back into the competition. It's not like they are spaced out.

I definitely noticed that. Let the CSI team do their job!!

I think that must have been one of the conditions that Wisconsin put on to get tourists to come. But I agree- way too much FLW (and I like his work!) It was funny watching Michelle get left behind for a long time while they were pairing up-- no one wanted to pair with someone with immunity, duh! Charly got the last laugh. I noticed that Gail was sunburned at the beginning when they were still at the cheese fest explaining the next challenge. Man they telegraphed Alisha and Kaleena going home right from the get go didn't they. I'm half face blind but I can't tell Manny and Kevin apart. I assume that Burnham Block is a tourist site/museum-- that is, no one lives there? Kind of ironic given the housing shortage. Not sorry to see Kaleena go. Such a sourpuss.

I bought my first new car when I was 23. I had lots of car rules, including "only clear liquids." No food was a given!
