Commercials That Annoy, Irritate or Outright Enrage
dleighg replied to Maverick's topic in Commercials
oh, you are so right. I've been tempted to look up what the heck is in it, but then again, I don't really want to know. -
I watched the first season on Acorn and enjoyed it well enough, but I don't see a second season there. What am I missing?
-
I am enjoying this show. As for Igor going when he did, Igor was annoying and over confident for an awfully long time. And it's clear (I haven't finished yet) that Jordan is not cut out for this so he won't make it out of the final in any case. And I have to say that serving raw lobster is inexcusable, period (Lara was her name). Also, I don't think the nicely dressed rich people are going to appreciate weird rabbits popping balloons filled with food all over their tables.

I'm not a particular fan of Anna, but I think she was more talking about how becoming a mother made her *feel* more beautiful. I'm not at all endorsing the point of view that motherhood makes one "more of a woman," but I think that's how she feels about herself. I don't think she was seriously saying she's the most beautiful woman in the world; that was just her internal "beauty meter" getting a big bump.
-
but she wanted to spoon Bishme. Is that who you meant?
-
The only connection I could see was the date of the massacre, in 1921. It's a stretch. I think she just wanted to mention the massacre and this got her there.
-
I think they were grading on a curve because of the short time frame of the challenge.
-
Yes, I've heard that when the designers are doing their whooping and clapping, the judges aren't there. I'm too lazy to try and see whether the camera angles support that (or at least don't blow that idea up).

The "my name is Barbara, and I'm a registered nurse" ad for Balance of Nature. Now, most Balance of Nature ads are annoying, but this one especially. She's talking about how awesome this product is, but she has as much energy as a sloth. She acts much older than people I know of her (apparent) age, while extolling how BoN lets her live her best life https://www.ispot.tv/ad/1eUU/balance-of-nature-barbara-nutrition -
or order (one after another) another "glass of cham" Who talks like that? And he could barely stand up.

I'm watching a Netflix show called "Five Star Chefs" and I saw in the previews that someone is going to serve a dish on a golden, hand-shaped, vessel. So I guess Buddha is very on trend :) I personally don't find it particularly interesting.

I wasn't paying much attention to the wallpaper, but it didn't particularly turn me off. IMO it's better than whatever "everyone" has decreed is tasteful these days, to the point of having no personality whatsoever.

something I've noticed is that no-one seems to use the "sailor's grip" to help guests into or out of the smaller boats. We were taught to always use that on the couple of "expedition cruises" I've been on.
-
the captain talking about the single prop: he was implying that it always wanted to turn in one way; does that mean that the prop is not centered on the rear of the boat? Who would engineer a boat that way? It doesn't make sense.

I wasn't talking about the designers. The producers of the show had Christian walk in (in sillouette) with a boombox to introduce the challenge.

wonder if they remembered to take the twist-tie off from the produce department.... I don't think those guys found ANY of that stuff in the woods in FIVE MINUTES -

That was apparently at the Hood River fruit festival. My husband and I stayed in the town of Hood River last summer (it's not far from the town in Washington (Stevenson?) they were staying in). There's this whole thing called the "Hood River Fruit Loop" where you can drive from farm to farm and get specialty items. We did some berry picking, and went to a lavender farm (which was a load of fun). -

and all this angst from the guys who "haven't had their time with Charity." So REALLY they are sad because they are going to get booted, not because they have any deep love for Charity. Because by definition, they barely know her! Sean is cute, but seems young. So do you think Charity had no idea they were going bungee jumping? Does the lead have to sign off before-hand on any risky sorts of things? She was acting like she was surprised. -

The Great American Recipe - General Discussion
dleighg replied to NotChristine's topic in The Great American Recipe
The thing I've noticed (note I haven't seen the most recent episode) is that the woman who always features native foods typically falls down because of that. She uses bison instead of beef, notes that it's hard to cook because it often comes out dry, and sure enough, it's dry. She uses a special native brand of cornmeal that uses pre-roasted corn, and gets complaints that the cookies or cornbread or whatever she made is dry. I wonder if she doesn't usually use these "native" ingredients, but that's her schtick, so that's what she's going to use, even if it doesn't end up coming out all that successfully. -
it is MAScarpone. There is NO R before the S! Drives me nuts.

I had a question about the one-on-one with Dotun. There they are jumping off the bridge in the daytime. Next time we see them, they are roasting marshmallows in the dark, and (finally?) getting into those background questions. What on earth were they doing for the hours in between? Apparently not talking! Do they go to separate corners? And I would not brag about bringing a stick. I'm 62, and yes, I like my walking sticks. But I never considered them until I was in my 50s. Brayden did NOT find those beets in the woods. They came from a grocery store. -
I certainly have hope that this will have grown-ups who don't think that how someone 'fights for me' in some stupid beach game is relevant to compatibility And i imagine they have a lot of more interesting things to talk about than "I really feel we are making a connection on this journey. Let's make out."

Here in NY, they go back just after Labor Day, but don't end until mid-late June. It meant that after AP exams (in early May), kids taking them twiddled their thumbs until the end of year/graduation (not to mention had over a month less class time in preparation). Weather-wise, it makes sense though, as they are out of school during the hottest part of summer.
