It could be that in Kendra's parents' minds, leaving the family size up to God just means not using any form of birth control and not tracking ovulation. The Duggar method is the complete opposite to leaving it up to God. Also, tracking ovulation and only having sex when the wife is fertile; seems to me to really kill the mood. Not to mention, not everyone has a hyperactive sex drive like JB. Now I need the brain bleach.

We can have Mass or other ordinary services outdoors, but marriage is a sacrament like baptism or holy orders. Its ideally only done once and only done in a church to underline its seriousness. Out of the 7 sacraments of the Catholic Church only Anointing of the Sick and Last Rites are done outside of a church. Now there are ways for a Catholic to get married at the beach if that is what you really want. There are also ways for a Catholic to elope and still get the marriage validated in the church. I know a few people who did not have a traditional Catholic wedding but are still in good standing with the church.

I can see Cross Church wanting Jill to be there with her husband. The program is probably always looking for more marks students. Her presence shows that the program is not too onerous for a married man with a family. The church probably also sent some single men as well. I can also see the church wanting to capitalize on the Duggar fame and Derick is worthless to them without his wife.

To my eyes, there is a strain of white supremacy that runs through this movement. I don't see many African-Americans especially ones raised in the south adhering to their beliefs. I have a feeling that the token black guy is probably from a northern state or from California. Southern blacks had to develop their own churches and they don't seem to mix with white churches. They can have shared beliefs, but they play out differently. In my area the churches with mixed congregations are my Catholic church, and the newer non-denominational churches. Even then, the blacks that attend are rarely from the south. They were raised in areas that do not have a strong African-American church culture.

Given the fact that Anna's parents allowed Priscilla to marry TFDW, I don't think they were too picky with the choice of Anna's husband. Josh is the right kind of Christian and he repented. It's not like they have a huge pool of possible husbands available.

In theory, a locked Twitter account would allow an individual to tweet his/her thoughts to a selective group of followers. It works better if you initially set up the account as private and not change years later. I'm sure that there are secret groups on Twitter chatting about whatever their hearts desire. These would mostly be side accounts, because the whole purpose of Twitter is to get your thoughts out there for everyone to see. As for the screen shots, that is the cost of doing business on the Internet. No matter how private you think your account is, your followers can always see and save whatever you post. There is no way that Derick was able to vet every follower before switching his account to private. He would have enough followers who were still able to see whatever Derick was trying to hide. I don't think that Derick has the intelligence nor the imagination to understand what Internet Lurkers are. He would have a few hundred followers who would never respond to his Tweets, but only screencap them. Those people were still able to see his Tweets and disseminate the message accordingly. Derick imagines himself to be a public figure, so having a private Twitter account makes no sense. How can he rage against the godless liberals if only a select few can see his message. How is he supposed to save souls, if only the chosen few can see his message.

I have very fond memories of Safety Town and driving that big wheel around the street signs almost 34 years later. I would love to see some pics from other kids enjoying it.

I don't think it is a strength issue for Jana. Jana reminds me a lot of my younger self being the oldest daughter of parents with some emotional issues. I went along with a lot of things my mother wanted because it was not worth the effort to fight it. I held a lot in until it almost broke my 17 year old self. The fact that Jana has not snapped shows me that she has a lot more emotional fortitude than I ever had.

That was an interesting read. I am not surprised to find out that sexual abuse in evangelical churches is under reported. I wish that the author would have gone further though. There was nothing mentioning how patriarchal these institutions are. When they believe a woman causes a man to sin, it's no wonder sexual abuse is swept under the rug.

I really don't find that to be the case. Usually when a fundie begins to question their pastor's belief, they end up finding another church like a nondenominational Christian church. They don't have the tradition and culture that Catholics have. I would say as a pro-coice Catholic who sees nothing wrong with gay marriage and birth control that I have changed Catholic churches to find one that fits my beliefs more. My priest focuses more on Catholic social teaching and avoids only hammering on being anti abortion. Being pro-life means more than only stopping abortion. We have a more expansive theology that can allow for this. Also, Catholics don't have many options for changing churches. If there was a church that stayed away from the abortion issue, allowed for gay marriage, followed Catholic social teaching and believed in Transubstantiation; then I would join that church. The only way for that church to exist is for the Roman Catholic Church to change, and all I can do is pray that it will. Protestants do not have these theological issues that can keep them in their church.

I would hope that Lauren gets everything that she wants for her wedding. It's not like she will have any other accomplishments after this day. It's her and Josiah's day and the couple should get what they want and not what JB and Michelle have in mind. I'm sure she has been planning this day for years and she deserves not to have her future in-laws calling all the shots. Lord knows, the rest of her life will be controlled by them.

I'm surprised that your friend in NC didn't understand how big California is. While if you are driving north and south on I95 or I77 it only takes a couple of hours to drive, going east/west takes forever. It takes forever to drive from Wilmington to the Tennessee border on I40. I'm in the coastal plain and it takes almost 5 hours to get to Charlotte.

Jill's use of parentheses makes me stabby. They are completely unnecessary and seem to be a way for her to make an already published recipe her own. Does anyone actually believe that Jill is some domestic goddess constantly whipping up new recipes?

You are completely correct. I actually wear more fabric than most of the Duggar girls do on a daily basis. I would never in a million years call my style modest, I just wear what I like. Maxi skirts and dresses have been popular for years. Thousands of girls and young women wear them. The Duggars are not as special as they think they are.

I wonder if Jill's reliance on canned ingredients dates back to when the family was really poor. Canned food lasts a long time, and I can see the "love offerings" including a lot of canned meats. That also would have been before you could get rotisserie chickens for 5 bucks each at Walmart or Sams. So Michelle (or the older daughters) would have to use whatever food that was donated to them. That BBQ tuna monstrosity seems to me to be a way to use whatever was in the pantry to make a meal for the family. And then JB loved it so they continued. Their palates must be so jacked up that fresh food tastes horrible to them.

One thing about this family that has stood out to me is what was their normal mealtime dynamic without the camera crew. We know that the girls all "forgave" Smuggar for his transgressions, but how did this play out on a day to day basis. I can't imagine sitting down with my molester everyday to eat multiple meals. Along with my parents who truly took his side in this. How much of an appetite could I actually have? When you are working hard on swallowing your anger, how much can you truly eat at dinner? If you and Josh both wanted a second helping, who would get it? Would Michelle always defer to her firstborn son? It's no wonder that Jill had some eating issues and would escape to the bathroom.

Probably slaving away in the kitchen getting the Mother's Day feast ready for Michelle. Jana just stepped away for a minute for this video hence the expression on her face. Who knows how much of the kitchen Josie licked while Jana was away.

I don' t understand this mentality that anyone who disagrees with you or points out flaws in your logic is automatically a hater. When you choose to post your opinions on the internet for all to see, you open yourself up to criticism. If you cannot handle disagreement, stay off Twitter. And while Jesus does love everyone, he would prefer you to STFU, Ben. That law in Ireland was an abomination to the women in the country.

We would chow down on some unconsecrated hosts and wash it down with the wine. We had to take the wine and pour it from the big jug into the containers used for the mass. I have no idea why someone at the church thought it a good idea to have preteens and teenagers in charge of the wine.

Jill does not have the culinary skills nor intelligence for aspics. She probably doesn't even know that something the consistency of jello can be savory. Personally I wouldn' t even eat Julia Child's aspics let alone anything out of a Duggar household. I have some bad memories of the Eastern European delicacy studzienina (jellies pigs feet).

I can see him trying to get into politics, but I can't see him actually getting elected. Even without factoring in his notoriety, his career trajectory has been way to aimless and inconsistent. First he was a missionary, then an accountant, then a missionary again, then he went back to school for a ministry degree, and then law school. All the while getting married and barely being able to afford 2 kids. He would get eaten alive by an opponent.
