  1. The more I think about Derrick's tweet, the more angry I get at Derrick and his ilk. The ability to choose between being a working mother or a SAHM has and is only available to women of a certain socio-economic status. Even then it is usually tied to a certain ethnicity. No woman has a romantic view of being a working mother, we do what we have to do. I agree with another poster, Derrick must resent his mother working when he was a child.
  2. I also loved that friendship. The producers tried to manipulate it so that Tammy Faye would go ballistic, but as a true Christian woman, she kept her cool.
  3. Jane and Jessa really do look like a lesbian couple. Did no one in the family notice? I think TLC and the photographer did this on purpose.
  4. I have no problem with the aging makeup, but that wig is horrendous. The problem is the color. The picture of Helen Mirren shows her gray roots, and the wig is too uniform in color. There should be some gray peaking in to make it look more natural. No one's hair color is that uniform, even those that dye their hair.
  5. I also think the writers wrote themselves into a corner last season. They showed an outdoor service and they had to follow through. I wonder if they knew Jack would die in late January in Pittsburgh last season.
  6. But the Duggars chose Jesus. No need for any personal responsibility, Jesus will take care of everything. The world is a bad place because others have not chosen the correct Jesus.
  7. I agree. Also, we saw that teenage Kate lost weight, but we have not seen how. She very well could have resorted to some form of extreme dieting that borders on an eating disorder. Kate did seem to keep her size a secret from Rebecca, so an eating disorder would not be out of the realm of possibility.
  8. While I am glad and frankly not surprised that Jack is a Springsteen fan, I wonder how the writers/producers chose the song to play. Lucky Town is not one of Bruce's better known albums which is great to show that Jack remained a fan well into the 90s. If I had to choose a song from that album to personify Jack, I would have gone with "Living Proof" over "My Beautiful Reward."
  9. But if she actually used an inexpensive top coat and/or base coat, the cheap polish will last longer. There are many drugstore options that actually work and won't set her back more than 10 bucks. One of the topcoats I use is around $1.00.
  10. Also, Kate is a senior. It is possible that she does not have to attend for the whole day even without exams. Jack being the clueless dad probably just assumed that all the kids go to school for the whole day everyday just like he did. For all we know, Kate has been leaving school early all year.
  11. I thought I saw her in the backround with Rebecca. She didn't have any speaking part, but the actress was there.
  12. Exactly. It does make sense that Randall got Jack's watch and Kevin got his dog tags, but I am looking at this as an rational outsider. In the midst of the grief and confusion of the Pearson family that week, I can see how Kevin would react badly to seeing Randall wearing the watch. He is a grieving 17 year old. It probably never occurred to Rebecca to take time to explain this to Kevin. With siblings, it is easy to forget what Mom and Dad already gave you when you see what they have given your brother (or sister).
  13. Kate probably was skipping school, but not missing anything. I'm the same age as the triplets, and my high school would not allow you to leave early at all even during exams. I know that I technically skipped school around exams whenever I did not have an exam. Why sit in school doing nothing. She was probably just skipping study hall or movie watching.
  14. Yeah, I didn't understand the outdoor funeral in Pennsylvania in late January. Kevin was with a blonde when Rebecca told the kids that they were leaving. I assume it was Sophie.
  15. Why did they have to bring Bruce into this? I made it through the last episode without any tears, but not tonight. I took my late father to one of his concerts and he carried around the ticket stub for almost a decade in his wallet.
  16. Another thing with regards to Kate. I have no problem with her watching that videotape once a year, I just wish she would view it in a different light. She has video evidence that her father loved her unconditionally to his dying day. That tape is priceless. I know that my father loved me and we parted on the best of terms given the circumstances, but I wish I had something like that to remember him by.
  17. I noticed that too. The hair and makeup team made sure that Milo looked at death's door in that scene. All I could think was that Jack was holding on long enough for Rebecca to leave the room. I know that this is not how heart attacks work, but I also think Jack knew.
  18. While I get your point and agree with it, Jack wasn't doing anything Easter of 1998.
  19. Randall was working on my last nerve so much that I had to shut off the show and will watch the last 20 minutes later today. When he talked about how the different siblings handle the day, his superior " I celebrate" made me want to reach into the tv and slap him. He isn't celebrating Jack, he is repressing his grief. His behavior is very much like Jack's and Kevin's. I don't see how his ritualistic "celebrations" are much different than Kevin ignoring his feelings. I have no problem with Kate wallowing in her grief that day. It's the extended wallowing that becomes a problem. I lost my best friend and dad 5 years and 2 days apart. Every March I wallow for 3 days, but then can move past it. Sadness is a part of the human existence and you need to let it out. I don't understand how Randall could have had at least 2 breakdowns and not know this. What kind of therapy has he been getting.
  20. I've noticed that these "Christians" tend to focus on the Old Testament and skip right onto Paul with their cherrypicking of the bible.
  21. I wonder if this has something to do with Catholic naming traditions. I know a family where all the girls have Mary in their names in some form, or mom prayed to Saint Paul while pregnant with all the kids and they now all have Paul in their names, or you were born on the feast day of Saint Anthony and you are named after him (even if you are female). Also, it used to be that you had to have a saint name for Baptism so your parents would have to add one. Or, you changed your name to your Confirmation name. I'm sure that I missed something, but I love how we have these traditions and how they vary with different countries.
  22. While I don't know how a Richard becomes a Dick, I can say that the ones I meet usually live up to the name.
  23. Yeah, Oklahoma State seems to big to do legacy admissions for the children of ordinary students. If Derrick was some star athlete or a multi-millionaire, I could see it.
  24. I think the reason we never see Jack struggling with any of his issues is because he represses his feelings. I see his optimism and forward thinking as him refusing to think about the past. I also think his alcoholism is part of this as well. When Jack cannot dampen down the feelings, he turns to drinking. Jack needs to deal with whatever happened with his brother (hopefully us viewers will get some scenes of this soon) .
  25. Also, Jack is someone who always looks to the bright side of things and that rubbed off on Rebecca as well. Last episode Jack could not sit back and let Kevin and Miguel wallow in their sadness for an extended period of time. I can see that to Jack a person chooses to be happy or unhappy. I can also see Jack's alcoholism stemming from his unwillingness to examine his past traumas. Jack is always looking to the future and Kevin is stuck in his (albeit recent) past.
