  1. Someone above mentioned KSJ’s surviving daughters. I send my condolences to them. I also send my condolences to those who’ve lost someone this way. My concern is that survivors of someone who committed suicide have a much higher rate of suicide. Such as KSJ and his son. A family member of mine is said to have killed himself. (I have doubts since there were inconsistencies but that’s what cops called it...) I am a “friend” of his son on FB. His son frequently had dark periods. (He is followed by a psychologist.) Suicide doesn’t just kill the individual but damages us all.
  2. The NY Times had KSJ’s obituary today. They said cause of death “not determined at this time” but mentioned his depression over the suicide of his son in 2014 in a psych hospital. He and his ex sued the hospital and reached a settlement in2017 iirc. I admit I read this sight more than watching the show nowadays. But I’m saddened about Neil/KSJ. Was it planned that this would be his last day, aka he quit or was fired? If so, they’ve been kicking a lot of classic veterans to the curb, replaced by the Reys. I’m just not impressed with Dummer or the Rey’s. Lola would be fine if the others returned to Miami. But this storyline with Dummer as a viper is old.
  3. Agree it was a snooze. With the death of K.St.J. What will they do for Neil? He’s been “working from home close to Lilly” for a while. I expected they’d kill him off, but he is/was another vet whose was with the show since the ‘70s.
  4. I agree that this storyline is bs BUT I predict she’ll turn up pregnant. Another way of prolonging a dead storyline. (Pure speculation on my part, but anyone want to bet, lol)
  5. I thought the concoction was an emetic rather than a “cure”, more likely to make him barf. But Devon drinking water was the better “cure”.
  6. Our PBS has a short that runs between programs. In the short, they show the Queen dedicating a memorial to President Kennedy in Britain, with Jackie Kennedy attending. Complete with an American flag. That short told me that the English did respect and admire him as well.
  7. I saw the same story about babies/mothers in Ireland. One woman made it her life’s work to find the names of those “buried” in a septic tank in a corner of the grounds of a home for unwed mothers. Sad. The few that got away never talked about it, brought the shame with them. The woman exposing this was the daughter or granddaughter of one who got away.
  8. I never knew if she told my mother. I expect she did, but my mother never mentioned it. I grew up in an era that said “don’t wear patent leather shoes since they reflect your underwear” or “wear a slip in the shower so you’re not tempted to look at yourself.” My friend’s mother was much more liberal than mine. (And she had a lot more kids, lol.) It was better getting the birds& bees from her than my mother. She knew how to take the fear out of it. I was recently able to thank my friend on FB. Unfortunately her mother had died years before, but my friend said that sounded like her mom. In Girl Scouts, we had to get permission from the priest to wear jeans while camping. That was the era.
  9. I was lucky to be at that sleepover, my friend’s mom explained things a lot better than my mom would have! The only problem with being 9 was that I had no idea what was happening, that I was “dying”.
  10. Catholic school, circa 1970s, 7-8 grade boys in one class, girls in the other. Permission slip, my father said no, my mother signed it anyway. Girls side: Kotex film, basics of menstrual cycle, hygiene, no birth control or basic info or how you get pregnant. Then in HS, anatomy class a nun gave the class so embasrraed that she didn’t notice the dead worm at the end of the string to the blinds. (She spent class twirling it...) Problem was I started when I was 9, at a sleepover. That friend’s mother was the only one who told me what was happening and that I wasn’t dying... Then she gave me Kotex and taught me how to use them. I remember the clips on the belts, always migrating so girls squirmed in their seats to try to get comfortable. TG for the adhesive!
  11. What I hate is how they present women as businessmen. NOT! Ashley railroading Jack out, sleeping with Ravi etc. Jill selling Chancellor on a whim. Victoria with B&S, then Newman acting like a witch with Abby et al. May malfeasance suffer the wrath of a million (or more) pissed off women.
  12. The second group (Starsky etc) did not even try to imitate reality. The NCIS, CSI etc do not seem realistic. I was once talking to an ER nurse. She was asked about asked about a show about the ER, if things were really like show. She said yes, but one day in the show was the action for about a year. Basically a years’ worth of drama in one day. Same thing about police procedurals. (IMO, Chicago PD falls into the unlikely category.) NYPD Blue seems to be more realistic, with good writing and acting. You don’t find that today.
  13. Back then the writers were just that: a strong union, a good salary and residuals. Then there was a strike, the union busted. (for the most part) Now they hire kids out of college as “assistant producers” so they are paid low wages. This show had the strong writers as well as strong actors.
  14. In view of what’s going on in the news, I suspect we’ll be in for a storyline with Ashley accused of sexual harassment. All the asshole behavior of the men on this show and they’ll use a woman... Just read the rest of the posts. You all came to that conclusion long before I did.
  15. IIRC, when Scott tried to call Prick, Prick told him not to call him again. He wasn’t given the chance to tell him about his suspicions. Then Abby, idiot that she is, talked about the rumors about Scott at NE & acted like NE didn’t want to hear anything Scott has to say.
  16. This is my 3rd time watching NYPD Blue from season one to season 12. My husband & I watch it together. IMO, the show originally was to be about John Kelly but soon was replaced by Andy Sipowitz. I think it was after the actor playing John wanted more money, so they wrote him out.
  17. Don't know where to put this, but let me frame it to say I hate what Victor's character has done to the show, how much damage etc. BUT, I just watched an interview of EB on Travis Smiley (PBS) hawking his book. They got into politics and such. EB was much more intelligent than I expected. He showed a true understanding of European history, history of the formation of Middle East etc. I couldn't help but like him. Maybe not enough to buy his book, but liked what he had to say. Shocked me. Too bad he plays a juvenile vindictive asshole. "Fomyfamby..." but causes the 'death' of one of his sons, he's trying to sabotage another, tries to sabotage the mental health of his daughter in law/ex wife etc...
  18. Sabrina mentioned DSS was seeking to terminate her parental rights. I assume they were doing the same with the children's father. If parental rights are terminated, so is child support.
  19. I believe Abe mentioned his truck needing repairs as the reason he wasn't on the road. But they didn't mention any effort to repair the truck or say how they were living without him working. iirc, Rebecca wants to be a dental hygienist or assistant. That is a realistic ambition IF she gets her GED. It would be 1-2 years after her GED.
  20. Thoughts: 1) Glad I recorded it so I could FF much of the show. 2) Abe "sacrificing" his teeth because of $20,000 price tag while not having the money to fix his truck. Let your wife get her education, get a part time job as a dental hygienist or assistant. Help with the finances. 3) Mary will never return to Amish, except for visiting (sneaking in) Chester and any other of her kids who aren't afraid to be seen with her. Her blasting the Amish funeral director seals her banishment forever. Tupperware? I think they just want to be on TV . Mary, lard is worse than butter. She needs a dietitian to explain things. Yes you can eat the "yummy" food but in limited quantities. She is a compulsive gambler? 4) What do I say about Sabrina? Violating the court order and then upset about losing Oakley? What did you expect? I don't know about PA but it takes a lot for the state to terminate parental privileges. There had to be a lot more to the story, such as abuse to Oakley. (Speculating, but from my experience DSS doesn't step in unless there is a very real danger. Same thing about taking the baby.) 5) Jeremiah: Ugg, what a POS. His wife told him the ground was too wet. Then he shouts that the state can't tell him what to do on his sinkhole property. But isn't the real estate agent or seller responsible for not knowing/ telling them about the isssue. I think the agent/seller is responsible for not disclosing that. I don't believe they did know something. But Jeremiah calling Abe pussy whipped just tells you about Jeremiah. I don't think Carmela will stick it out with his attitude. She is not as brainwashed as she seems. 6) Rebeca being born out of wedlock explains a lot. Her reaction to Sabrina makes me think her mother may have been involved in drugs. (Speculation) I applaud her desire to get her GED. I wish she had a better tutor/counselor/teacher. I would have expected a counselor/teacher in PA Dutch Country be more familiar with Amish education. This guy seemed more discouraging than helpful. Rebecca may not have had an education but she seems smart. This guy on top of Abe's discouraging her will make her education more difficult. All in all, these people are all ex Amish, never to return, even if they wanted to. Adapting to the English world is hard enough, but impossible to do if you hold onto backward beliefs regarding women and education.
  21. What I meant is that Varner may have talked about Zeke to the ap interviewing him. I assume Varner talked to someone before TC. IF this is the case, there was the opportunity of of Varner being warned not to do it. All this is assuming that Varner was interviewed & JP was told what could happen. i think that this should not have been aired. They could come up with a story to cover this up. Not that it needs covering up but that it was Zeke's to decide what he wanted people to know. And when he wanted them to know.
  22. A thought: Blaming Jeff may be because Varner may have discussed this with a "associate producer " who clued Jeff in. IF this is the case I can see them finding a way to minimize damage without airing this painful episode.
  23. Regarding the IQ debate: there is IQ and there is EQ. Emotional Quotient is (concisely put) the ability to delay satisfaction. You can have a high IQ but if you don't have a high EQ, it may be worthless.
  24. I'm happy that they won since they are a "home team", UNC. However they received a horrible edit. They edited English as a bitch, while Steve was edited as a whipped puppy. Did they do this with the ex gang member/lawyer? No, they received a good edit despite the woman blowing their lead with the blotter. i get the feeling English pissed the producers off in some way. Maybe there was only supposed to be one team winning, but when the producers' pick (escape guys) was coming in second they allowed both teams to win. Or she called BS on the hunters' "hunch" about the seaplane. But I think there was something we don't know. Major changes/leveling the advantages would have to happen for a second season to happen.
