  1. Constance Towers looks amazing! It was great to see her again. Helena and Laura were the highlights of the show for me. Drew is an idiot. And fucking useless. I fast forwarded through all the Michael and Willow stuff. Normally I welcome scenes with Liz and TJ but had no interest in their Willow propping today. Every time I think Carly couldn't be more vile, she becomes even more horrible. There is no bottom with this character. She's just a total piece of shit. I will never, ever understand why this vindictive, bitter gasbag was made the heroine of the show.
  2. It's not silly at all, @Elizabeth Anne. What a wonderful sister you were to take over the care of your beloved sister's pup. I'm so, so sorry for your loss.
  3. Michael - and sadly, Brook Lynn - can fuck right off. Ned should definitely hold a grudge against these two for a good long time. While the Greenland/Not Greenland stuff is silly, I'm loving it because of Laura, Anna, Robert and Holly. And because it brought Andre back (even though it will probably be for far too short of a time). And because it gives characters like Scott and Portia who have nothing in common a chance to share a scene. It's done nothing for Valentine, Curtis and Drew, though, who are idiots. I didn't realize how small Dex was until today when he was standing next to Brick. He's a male Little Big Head. Carly and Diane really smarmed up the interrogation room today. So gross. IDK. I think Carly would shiv Sonny to save Michael, Joss, Jason (were he not "dead") or her boyfriend of the moment, but my comment was more about a frustration that these two would never be allowed to be free of each other rather than the strength of this supposed loyalty. If they have this unbreakable bond (or however Ava described it) then it doesn't bode well for their respective love interests moving forward. That's so depressing for me as a viewer. Sonny and Carly (along with Jason) drove me away from this show for years. I've only come back recently because their stranglehold appeared to be over. And CW's Nina did the impossible and made Sonny tolerable. I don't want GH to revert back to what it was, and the propping of the sick and tortured Sonny/Carly relationship makes me nervous and a bit angry.
  4. Well that sucks! I've watched soaps on and off (mostly on) since I was about nine years old, and my life has always been better with them than without them. It's too bad TPTB won't invest in good writers. Even if the audience is small it's still a sizable chunk of eyeballs for advertisers. I just don't understand why all of the remaining soaps think that shitty, awful characters like Phyllis, Victor, Carly, etc., should be the heroes. It's just not right, and as pessoptimist who still likes to think that good people eventually come out on top, it makes me sad that soaps no longer value that belief.
  5. I'm going to be laughing about this, and Victoria being known as Side Part's Side Piece, for days! You guys are awesome for watching this dreck. I may be giving up GH again, too, so I'll be completely soap-free for the first time in awhile. I really should use the yearly Peacock subscription we bought to watch Days of Our Lives. It can't be this bad, can it?
  6. The real surprise for me is Eden McCoy. Her acting style reminds me so much of Candace Camerson Bure (the exaggerated facial expressions and gesticulations that take the place of emotion she's unable to give) that it's difficult for me to take her seriously. Given the state of soaps I guess it's to be expected that she's get a nomination. Talk about a pity nod, though! Henry Joseph Samiri who plays little Douglas on The Bold and the Beautifu, should win. That kid is such a good actor and he rises above the often ridiculous shit he's given to play.
  7. These last two episodes were fucking gross. I fast forwarded through most of them (especially yesterday) and the propping of Carly, Michael and Willow was over the damn top. Even Ava was in on it. Ava!!!!!!! Carly won't pay for her crimes this time, either, and Nina will be the evil-doer to out do all evil-doers. Carly doesn't pay a second thought to keeping Nina away from her two grandchildren, but Nina is supposed to feel bad that Carly's own actions may deprive her of spending time with Wiley and Amelia? And Sonny and Carly have this unbreakable bond of loyalty? The flames on the side of my face are red hot right now. i may have to opt out for awhile. The coming hypocrisy of Michael trashing Nina for exposing his mother's crimes, all while he's been plotting and conspiring for months to put his father in prison, will be too much for me to take. Please bring on the pathogen for these assholes, Victor.
  8. So happy that Tracy is back! And Holly, who I've always loved with Robert. I do wish that Robert and Holly were with Laura instead of Drewfus and Curtis, but am happy that at least Laura is taking names and kicking ass. Not that long ago she wouldn't have been allowed to be a hero. The scene between Anna and Holly was also a breath of fresh air. No grievance or resentment, but one woman recognizing that the other was in an impossible situation. All the Carlys can fuck off and die. Like some others I sincerely hope this won't be the end of Nina and Sonny. The pairing has saved his character and given him something other to do besides mumble about the bidness. At this point I don't care if Nina and Willow ever have a relationship. Willow is a hateful, bitter jerk and stupid beyond words for going from one sick cult to another. If Carly goes to jail for committing a crime, that's on Carly not the person who discovered the crime.
  9. @oliviabenson and @stewedsquash I also talked about missing Kmart on one of these threads recently. In the spring they always had a nice selection of interesting perennials and trees, and their indoor garden section always had nice pots at a reasonable price. Years ago I bought some tiny boxwoods from Kmart that are so lush and pretty now. Ditto with monarda and astilbe that are still going strong. Our favorite pasta pot is from Kmart, too. The store that was closest to us had the same people working there for years, and I still wonder what happened to them. It's sad that two iconic businesses (Kmart and Sears) were mismanaged into the ground.
  10. Was it the ones from the early 2000s, with Geraldine McEwen and Julia McKenzie? There were a couple of episodes that were adapted to include Miss Marple (Pale Horse, Endless Night and at least one other), and some that were true Marple stories but rewritten slightly (like A Murder is Announced) and horribly and unnecessarily (like Nemesis). Or have there been other more recent adaptations?? Another Poirot pet peeve, the 2008 episode of Appointment with Death. I watched it once back then and have avoided watching it again. It was just brutal. And besides that, the plot was rewritten to be a convoluted mess. The Peter Ustinov version from 1988 is pretty good, though. Piper Laurie was so convincing as the domineering, controlling mother from hell.
  11. No, I haven't. He'd have to be pretty bad to be worse than Finney. @stewedsquash I didn't realize Malkovic had played Poirot. That's definitely one I'll add to my list. The Suchet version of The ABC Murders is also very, very good.
  12. The books are even better. The characters in A Murder is Announced are some of my favorites, ever. While I love most of David Suchet's Poirot, they really butchered Murder on the Orient Express. It's a dark story but the book has a lot of humor which is completely absent from the 2010 episode. The flaws are even more glaring after watching Curtain (which I've seen but never read). This brings up a pet peeve. I watched the 1974 version of Murder on the Orient Express recently and could hardly get through it. Albert Finney was fucking horrible. I'm glad he wasn't available or wasn't cast to do the other Poirot movies of that era. Peter Ustinov was infinitely better, though even he couldn't save Murder in Three Acts. I've wondered if dust-in-his-grave Tony Curtis is still embarrassed by his performance in that one.
  13. I enjoyed today. And even though it was pure Sonny propping, my favorite part was Kristina's charity for at-risk kids. It could be an impactful and interesting story that gives backburnered characters some screen time while also calling back to the 80s (Blackie) and 90s (Stone). My fear is that it will be dropped and barely mentioned again once Dex inevitably falls in love with Sonny and decides he can't betray him. Surprisingly I actually liked Sonny with Dante, though I'll never understand why Sonny (or anyone, really) wastes a second of time thinking about that idiot Michael. Even Sam was good. I wish the writers would let her be smart more often. KeMo can do more than this show has ever given her, and I'm not even much of a fan of hers. The Ice Princess story has been so much fun. My husband was laughing at the overacting on the deck yesterday but I explained the history and told him how much I *loved* the original Ice Princess story as a kid, especially Laura, Luke and Robert on the island. Such happy memories! As for the Carlys, I wish a hellmouth would open and swallow them all. I didn't think I could hate Carly anymore but yesterday showed me I could!! She's such a vile, odious, reprehensible, utterly trash human being. NULOCH, indeed. Was there a follow up on who Brook Lynn pulled strings with with respect to Chase and the police review board?
  14. Thank you for those clips @ezzylin! Those were great and it's actually difficult for me to pick a favorite Diane. Also, I've long wondered if Michelle Stafford always repeated herself or if it's a relatively new tic, and those scenes answered the question. She's been unnecessarily repeating her lines since at least 2002. She is tiresome to me as a viewer; I can't imagine having to work with her everyday. Brilliant and hilarious as always, @NinjaPenguins! Nick's gorilla talk is especially spot on. And these two snippets: are the best summaries of Nick and Jack that will ever be written! Two legacy, leading men and this is who and what they are.
  15. She is as delusional and idiotic as her character. Why couldn't Phyllis really have DIAF? Just wanted to say thank you again to those of you who are still watching and for your hilarious, brilliant and insightful posts! I can't bring myself to tune in until this stupid story is over.
  16. I forgot how much I liked pre-Carly Bobbie. Carly ruins everything. It was nice to see the Haunted Star again. I've always liked that set and am actually interested in where this is going. Probably nowhere, but I'm an optimist! So I'm behind and missed all this week except for today, but in reading the comments it seems there are suspicions about a Sonny and Carly reunion? My gosh I hope not. This is the first time in decades that Sonny has been tolerable and that's all due to CW's Nina. I actually like them together. If the Carly/Drew pairing isn't working (and it isn't because they're both boring, hypocritical and generally awful) then the solution is to push both of them into the background where they belong. Agreed! In the Pale Moonlight is my favorite episode of any Trek ever, because of Sisko and Garak, my favorite character of any Trek ever. It's wonderful to see so many Trek fans here!
  17. I'm right there with you. No way can I handle anyone deifying Phyllis. Much love and appreciation to the rest of you for being able to stomach it and for your brilliant analyses!
  18. Rustin was indeed a very interesting person. I don't typically read biographies but have read one on him. It might have been Lost Prophet? I don't remember. He was a deep, innovative thinker, a close advisor to MLK Jr. and gay at a time when being a gay black man was definitely not easy. The concept itself is philosophically ancient. In the early 70s, Foucault and Chomsky did a sit down and I think this was one of the subjects they discussed? Again my memory is fuzzy here, but I bring it up because Foucault wrote about it in some of his books - it may have been in Archeology of Knowledge and then developed further later on? It's been a long time since I've read anything by Foucault (another truly innovative thinker).
  19. Surprisingly the dollar store sometimes has pretty plates, bowls and cups. I've never bought them and don't know how they'd hold up to daily use and being put through the dishwasher, though. Yes, they do and they will. The cottagecore, grandmacore, gardencore, etc., trends have brought some things back. Some Gen Zers love to thrift in order to be eco-conscience/responsible and as a rejection of mass consumerism. I collect smaller embroidered pieces like pillowcases and hand towels because they can still be used while appreciating the hand work that went into them. We see sets of antique and vintage china at the antique and thrift shops all the time. The only reason we haven't bought any is because they're probably not dishwasher safe. I'm all for eating a nice meal on a lovely plate but have no interest in all that washing up.
  20. It's a very old saying. I don't remember if it originated with abolitionists* but certainly with social activists. It means standing up for what's right, especially when those in power are opposed to you. *If memory serves, Frederick Douglass used it or a similar turn of phrase in one of his magnificent speeches.
  21. This is exactly why I've always been happy being a B-cup. I've watched large-breasted family members struggle with back aches and poorly fitted clothes my whole life. One cousin in particular has been brought to tears by shoulder and back pain that she says she wouldn't wish on anyone.
  22. Ditto. If I wanted to watch a psychopath whine and play victim while criming, I'd watch the news. This story isn't interesting or entertaining, and the end scenario has a high probability of being rage-inducing. No thanks, show.
  23. Mariah Copeland & Tessa Porter Lauren Fenmore & Michael Baldwin - this one was difficult!
  24. I'm neither. Anti-Phyllis is the best description. If Diane wins as a consequence of Phyllis losing, then so be it. Also, I'm tired of Jack always being made the chump. I hope Diane isn't running a long con not because I like her, but because I like him and think the character deserves more than being pitied and thought of as a fool.
