  1. I once read a cat owner describe flies as sky raisins. It's funny because it's true.
  2. I sincerely hope this doesn't happen. It will mean even higher rates and slower delivery times, and rural areas would be disproportionately impacted with service area cuts. I rely upon USPS for my tiny business and anything that hurts the people who buy from me (whether it be in extra postage costs or the inconvenience of driving for miles to a lock box) is going to hurt me. Things are tough enough as it is.
  3. This was a great challenge. I really liked the idea of everyone having to use the same fabric and only wish the designers had been given more time. Brittany's look was my favorite, though everyone except Hester did a good (Rami, Laurance) to great (Kara Saun, Brittany) job. I'm just glad that Rami and Bishme were safe. Trying to figure out these judges from week to week is a fool's errand. I never know, and neither do the designers, what they're going to like or why. Hell even Brandon and Elaine didn't know which direction Nina was headed with her supposed alarm! Agree with everyone upthread about the Anna pile-on. The judging is not her fault. While I don't have any memory of Kayne from his season, I do remember Korto being a mean-spirited and petty whiner when things didn't go her way then, too (and damn that vocal fry of hers is unbearable). When she pontificated that the dust-up that her and Kayne engineered was going to divide the group? That there was some bullshit. Also, her dress last week wasn't all that and shouldn't have been the winner. I liked the guest judge and loved the photos they showed of her different looks. She made a granny-square cardigan look cool, ha ha!
  4. Also a 1, though I pictured a Granny Smith (my favorite kind of apple, ha ha). It would be weird not to be able to visualize something in your head, but apparently a lot of people can't, which is why all those real estate make-over shows insist on staging homes for sale so people understand how a room should be furnished and used. I went down the rabbit hole of de-cluttering videos the other day and it's fascinating how differently the brain works in people who collect and/or hoard and those who don't. I collect things (within reason, as space and money allows) but get great satisfaction out of purging things as well. Even though I had a friend who was a low-level hoarder (sadly she's passed on), I never quite got how she always ended up in a cluttered and sometimes dirty mess. I knew there was some trauma there, obviously, but didn't understand how complicated it was.
  5. Ditto. I still remember a story on the local news about grocery cart handles and paper money having more germs than a toilet seat. <shudder> Now I don't know whether there were scientific studies to back up those conclusions, but I am keenly observant of just how gross some people can be and act accordingly.
  6. Same. What an extremely unflattering take on the smokey eye. Apparently it's her thing, though, like Anna Wintour's ugly haircut.
  7. Really loved Kayne's dress. Even better was Brandon's little gasp when the coat became a skirt/train. That dude loves a reveal! She's not a favorite of mine, either. But she's nowhere near as awful as Helen or Orange Josh for me. I noped out of one of the All Star seasons because of Helen and hope she and Josh never, ever come back to this show. Same. Yes, he did! They played a clip of him saying someone's outfit was so dowdy and grandma that all it lacked was tissue in the pockets. I'm still giggling over that one.
  8. I'm sorry to see Mila go. It sounded like there was more to the story of her business shut down than she was ready or willing to share, and she was clearly pained and regretful over it. I would've liked to see her get much further in the competition. Very glad that Rami was safe and happy for Viktor's win. I'm also rooting for Bishme.
  9. The orca and shark incidents are very strange! Sadly the behavior of humans is par for the course. I don't want to say any more than that, as the divergent responses in rescue attempts could be construed as political. So I'll just say that the technology that's being deployed to try to find the missing submersible/tin can that people had themselves bolted into is amazing. It's not just the planes and boats and sonar but the recovery equipment itself. Just ingenious. There are some very, very smart scientists and engineers out there and I sure am grateful for them. Has anyone ever read the book Ship of Gold in the Deep Blue Sea? If not, it was about the recovery of gold on a sunken 19th century paddle wheeler by a private company. I read the book many years ago and came away with a healthy dislike of the man who ran that company and even the author of the book. The hubris and greed of people like that has been on my mind the last few days.
  10. So, news from the sea the past few weeks has been fascinating, strange and sad. Orcas sinking ships, sharks attacking a boat a la Jaws, the missing submersible and the multi-country search for it, and a German boat captain who is facing charges because she rescues people who don't happen to be wealthy.
  11. I also dislike soap opera mode. It's like the difference between film and videotape. No, I don't like them either. The one I watch is 42" and a few years old. It's fine for this room. The living room tv is about the same age and a little bigger, but it's still nothing like the mammoth sized televisions of today. A few years ago I did some late night, Black Friday sales and watched two different couples struggle to fit very large televisions in their cars and it wasn't happening. And again, that was before tvs were as massive as they are now. Ha ha! That's what I spend a lot of time watching, too. I've really been enjoying Pie in the Sky (an older show) and Harry Wild (a new mystery series with Jane Seymour set in Ireland).
  12. Would you want to make your own arrangements? Michaels and Joann both have sturdy plastic flowers and greens. One of our neighbors fills out her planters with fake flowers every season and that's where she gets them. And I used fake poinsettias and pine branches from Joann over the holiday season in one of ours last year and it withstood the weather just fine.
  13. Interesting! I only read at AITA on Reddit when I can't sleep and didn't realize there were so many other cool topics there. I've given up most of my usual threads here and it would be great to have somewhere else to read and possibly participate.
  14. Same, though tbh I've only logged in a few times since doing so. There's a lot of good content there so I'll renew it when the year is up.
  15. My husband really struggled over pronouncing the name Ewan. He'd heard it, of course, because of Ewan McGregor, but hadn't seen it spelled out. Ha ha! For me it's the word hegemony. And trattoria, which I have to remind myself does not sound like Victoria.
  16. So that motherfucker Josh Griffith actually wrote in the murder of the family cat? Fuck you, Josh Griffith. Fuck you, Y&R. Fuck you, CBS for enabling this sick fucking creep. There is NO EXCUSE for this story. NONE. --- You all are the best, sweetest and funniest group of people on this entire site but I'm done with this show. I can not and will not abide animal cruelty in any form. And once again, fuck you forever and ever Josh Griffith you worthless fucking hack. ETA: I left feedback on CBS.com. I hope many others do as well. JG should be fired.
  17. Sounds like she needs to be reported to the state's labor law authority. Her nanny is not an indentured serf.
  18. Thank you so much! Yes the ecotank is the same - I don't use it regularly and so have to run a head cleaning or two after printing just a few full color pages. A wide format printer has been on my wish list for awhile and it's wonderful to have a testimonial for one. I also have a Canon laserjet but use a Brother the most because the toner is so much cheaper. Thank you again!
  19. Same! I need printers for my work and have five total plus a thermal label printer. @roseha may I ask what model is your Epson printer? I have an Epson ecotank which I like (and the ink is very economical) but the quality is nowhere near as good as my HP color laserjet. However, the laserjet is essentially a doorstop at this point because the cost for oem toner is ridiculous.
  20. Wonder why they didn't use one of those special markers or lights to verify it was real? Even crumpled up 20s get the marker treatment here! I can understand why being clean and nicely dressed wouldn't have allayed their suspicions, though. Years ago I sold at artisan markets and the two that were in the wealthiest areas and the customers were expensively dressed were the ones where most of my stuff was stolen. Successful criminals get by with being criminals because they defy expectations.
  21. He was a great Mermaid Man, though. Spongebob aficionados will know what I mean. I always imagined that he had a wonderful time voicing that character with Tim Conway, who was an equally funny Barnacle Boy. Oh no! If the show does this then I will drop it for good and never, ever watch it again. It makes me sick to even think about it. :-(
  22. Ditto, except we use a large air fryer rather than a countertop oven. I wouldn't mind one of those, though we'd need more counter space than our kitchen currently has. I don't know how the previous (original) owners of this house raised their litter of children here. We're just four humans plus animals and are constantly tripping over each other. Anyway, one of the trails we regularly walk is along a river, and in the winter and spring you can see one of those ovens from the 20s or 30s stuck along the bank. It's all rusty but has those pretty cabriole legs and was probably a very nice oven back in the day.
  23. I'll join the two of you in the corner. That's happened to me a number of times as well.
  24. Thank you so much, @Annber03! It was another gorgeous day here. We went on a hike and the native daisies were in full bloom. They're such happy, pretty little flowers. There was some other kind of native in bloom that the butterflies (or moths?) were all over. So today I'm grateful for the pollinators!
  25. Oh yes, Costco and Sams Club are overwhelming as well, with the crowds and the 20' high stacks of pallets everywhere. It's no place I'd want to be in a tornado. Glad you were able to find your son a new bike!
