  1. Thanks stillshimpy! I know - that pot was part of a nice Lagostina set - it was such a good one. Ah well. I feel your pain too.. Burned Ovenmitts for dinner! Woohoo! The mulled cider sounds like a great idea - or even chilled cider with a shot of rum - I think we both would have needed that after our flaming disasters!
  2. Cooking up bone-in skinless chicken breasts for my dog. I mix dry and wet food for her, and as weird as it sounds, buying "human" meat from the store (on sale!) and cooking it up is a hellva lot cheaper than buying canned wet dog food. So much cheaper. And so much better for her. Anyway...so I have the chicken breasts simmering away on low heat for like 10 minutes-ish at this point. Then I realize I have to take the dog out and completely forgot about what's on the stove. I come back to the house smelling like rancid burned death and a pot on the stove with half an inch of black tar-like ash in the bottom. No chicken breasts, mind you. No bones either. Everything literally cooked down and disintegrated into a thin yet almost solid layer of black tar that coated the bottom of my pot. Pot goes outside (and stinks up the outside), all windows opened and I swear, the smell did not leave the house for two weeks. No matter how many times the curtains and everything was washed, the house Febreezed with a total of four full bottles, etc, it STUNK. And I had to throw out my pot (I loved that pot). :'( Thank god I didn't burn down the house though....But still...Didn't know you could do that to a BONE-IN chicken breast...
  3. Mmm...stretchy cheese...I love pizza, but forget the pepperoni and anchovies and that stuff. I'd rather have pineapple on my pizza. Yum! Always thin crust, and with stretchy cheese. Have you heard about the trick to get rid of some of the grease from store bought pizza?? (like Pizza Hut or Dominos, etc) Hold the pizza box up in the air - straight out in front of you. Then just let go (don't throw it downward - simply let go). The box hits the ground and most of the grease (but not the toppings or cheese) will fly up straight into the cardboard of the pizza box cover. Instant degreaser.
  4. Nope - not cancelled - Full season order! I posted this in the Media thread first. Yeah!
  5. Good news (because I like this show) - a Full Season of Forever was ordered by ABC. Excellent. At least the show will survive a year.
  6. This is what I thought also. I know their budget increased, they had more time to plan, more time to film, etc. So I expected some more epic battles, like the scene that was cut from the opening of Season 2 (Crane fighting off British Soldier Zombies). How cool would that have been. Instead, we get boring wife drama and yes, everything seems more contained. I mean, we saw the inside of the precinct last year, and cops milling around. This year - nothing. No Headless with a semi-automatic, flinging that flaming axe around. No good sword fights. No Frank and Jenny and a swat team taking out some baddies, etc. It's really self-contained now. I expected 'War" to mess with more townspeople, have them infight/join the fight, like the Hessians, have the core four (Irving/Jenny/Crane and Abbie) have to doubt many townspeople, for their shady behaviour. Instead - everyone is separated, we get demon babies and wife drama, a weak Headed Headless and a moustache-twirling comically unfrightening villain called Jeremy. Of all of the typical tropes they are throwing at us, the one I wanted to see was Katrina is evil - because it made perfect logical sense. That would have made me enjoy her character. It would've been fun for the actress to play, and again, would explain a lot. Instead we got...
  7. Does anyone feel that this season is dragging on. How strange to say it. I mean, last season whipped by, things got resolved episode to episode. This season they only have five extra episodes, yet everything is dragging out big time. Nothing is resolved, it's just the same old same old. Those five extras shouldn't have slowed down the momentum this much. You are not wrong - he needs a family tie. But instead of writing a compelling romance, and making the wife useful, she is written so poorly I have to wonder if its deliberate. Couple that with the moment that Ichabod says his wife's name or sees/interacts with her, and he loses all brain cells. You know the joke about blood flow in a male.... Really interesting theory I read on another site. First of all, the poster noted what we all noticed - that Ichabod called Katrina an "enchantress", which we all know can mean "someone who puts someone else under a spell." The poster then noted that Ichabod is a really "Intelligent yet stubborn" person. We've seen time and time again his railing about his own beliefs, how things should be in his viewpoint, etc. From donut taxes to driving to his founding fathers - he has a strong opinion on everything. He learns, but it takes time and he does debate things. He is a logical learned man. Then the poster notes this: That whenever Katrina has a notion, a idiot plan, whatever, he never questions her. He becomes a "brainless twit," as we know. The moment he sees Katrina, or the moment he says the words "Katrina says." concerning one of her plans - boom - he immediately sides with her. To the point that we get whiplash because the change is so sudden. The poster rewatched earlier episodes and noted a pattern - hinting at.....the fact that Ichabod IS under a spell. Everytime he says "Katrina this", he immediately acquieses to her whim - to the point of being completely illogical. I really liked this theory. It's got to be the only explanation - please be the explanation - because Ichabod cannot be this stupid. ETA: no problem, cynic re: the Pilot script - I found it interesting how much changed - some for the better (tighter dialogue), some of it for the worse. (including the wife).
  8. I'm stereotyping here (apologies) but when they mentioned "Goth" outfit, I was like, where? Doesn't Goth culture tend to wear lots of black (thinking of my college clubbing years) That corset should have been black - same with the jeans. This made me laugh. It fits, what with the open shirts that Crane wears. Put some gold chains around his neck and we get Pimp Daddy Crane. Oh lord...
  9. Well, at least they are spreading the stupid evenly amongst the Crane's. I think I'll need a stiff drink for that one too - and the rest of the season.... On a brighter note - more Abbie backstory - Yes! see Media Thread - Synopsis for 2.10 - Magnum Opus.
  10. I just created one a few days ago - all about the Walkers/Zombies, if you are interested.
  11. I think it's more - how can we get the audience to forget all of the shady things Katrina did from Season 1 episode 1 and on, and all of the lies and withholding of information and dicey behaviour and manipulations and lack of magical power prowess...."Let's just put her in peril and the audience will forget all of it."
  12. marceline, great Tom and Lorenzo article. If they are seeing the flaws, well then...I completely agree with that article. Thanks for providing!
  13. Everyone. This thread is to discuss the episode Deliverance, and there are some excellent discussions here, but it seems that we have moved off topic. To discuss Abbie Mills in this season, please do so in her thread (and vote for a new title). To further discuss race on TV, go here. Thank you.
  14. Every episode with Crane mooning over his wife bored the hell out of me. Katrina should have been made evil, isn't, is so boring. Jenny and Irving not featured as much as I like. No background on Abbie (and extension Jenny). The constant focus on the redemption on a character that cannot be redeemed. The dumbing down of Ichabod Crane. I adore Crane at all times, until he says the word "my wife" or "Katrina" or they are together. Then, I cannot with him. And I love me some Tom Mison. Mison, you are too good of an actor, in that you are managing to spin Crane as an idiot, when Crane is so charming as hell. Breaks my heart... Dear god, are you serious? Who are these people. In that case, it's a good thing I started removing myself from shipping anything Ichabbie. So disappointed.
  15. I like it too - like I said, as long as Voice of Reason is in there. Poll modified - I added "Voice of Reason and Grace Under Fire", since at least three of us like it.
  16. No, Shanndee, you are definately not! I don't have a twitter account, nor a tumblr or Facebook or any of that mess. I refuse to on principle and just being a stubborn old bat (it's not a technology issue either - I'm comfortable with tech). I just refuse to, again on principle. :') But I read other people's twitters - there is some funny stuff on there. I hope so, Topanga. I really do. Orlando is the biggest fanboy ever. ETA: Extended Synopsis for Episode 2.10 - Magnum Opus More Abbie backstory!!! There might be hope yet...
  17. Oregano. The smell and taste puts me off completely. Most other herbs, I'm good, but a pizza or pasta sauce with oregano in it - yuk. Indian curry (not Thai curry) - the smell makes me want to hurl. The taste too - it just tastes...bad. Cottage Cheese - it look like vomit - and yet so many people eat this stuff? It's the texture, not the taste. I can drink any alcohol except beer. The smell and taste totally turns me off. Ciders, wine, hard liquor is fine. Just not beer. Same with tea. The smell of tea alone again makes me want to hurl. Herbal teas I like, but not black, white or green teas. I prefer vanilla over chocolate. I like chocolate at times, but prefer vanilla flavoured things like ice cream and cake, etc then chocolate. I would rather have a dessert with fruit in it, or a light vanilla cake, or a creme brulee, than something with chocolate in it. Brussel sprouts - thinly sliced and sauteed up with bacon is amazing! Yummy. And avocados are wonderful. Either in gucamole or just on a sandwich.
  18. Yeah, I saw your post, so put in the promos for you. And now having seen the episode, you know why they hype this episode too much...Phil Iscove was supposed to live tweet the episode but never did. Same with Orlando Jones, and it's the first time he didn't. There is a whole massive backlash going on right now with regards to this episode, and how Abbie is being sidelined. It's actually fascinating to me, like a university media course could analyze this, do some lectures on twitter, media and tv and how they all can influence each other and also, tips on how not to alienate your fanbase. The twitter hashtag #abbiemillsdeservesbetter has a lot of support and some really interesting comments. On top of that, Orlando Jones has tweeted about this whole thing. He has long been an enthusiastic SH fanboy and interacts with the fans really well, but I get a sense that he is starting to get tired of this mess also. He tweeted: Like I said, I find all of this actually fascinating from a media perspective.
  19. Oh no, the hashtag that's going like crazy right now is #AbbieMillsDeservesBetter. Check it out - so dead on.
  20. Besides my irritation at how Irving and Jenny have been so sidelined, another thing that really bothers me is the character assassination of Ichabod Crane. This is supposed to be a guy whose conscience is so strong, that he literally committed an act of treason and joined the Patriots to fight against his own country. This is supposed to be a person who duty and honour are important to him and mean something powerful to him. Yet, the moment Katrina saunters in the door, or into his mind, all of that is lost. If the show hadn't already shown him to be a good caring person, I would have guessed the only reason he was upset Caroline was killed, is because his source of clothing was now dead. Same with Abbie - that he was upset at her almost drowning, because his livelyhood would be dead. I've said it before. Abbie makes Ichabod a better person. Katrina makes Ichabod a terrible person. All of those scenes between Abbie and Ichabod, and all future ones no longer have any meaning to me. Because the show assassinated his character and made him come off as being a really bad person - but always in the presence of Katrina, or when he has his little Katrina-mania episodes. No questioning her shadiness, the lies, the fact that she "accidently" caused his fiance's death. Nothing at all. The show would have made sense if they made Katrina evil. The behaviour of Crane re: Katrina would only make sense if he was under a spell, courtesy of the red-headed "enchantress". THEN it would all make sense. But I doubt they will ever write something this logical. Instead, they perform character assassination on one of the most compelling characters on TV, all the while ignoring storylines for the other most compelling character on TV. What a waste.
  21. Dude looked so much like a young Orlando Jones, I had to do a double-take. No wonder OJ's twitter has him stating "Not the guy from Everyone Hates Chris" I hope he comes back and somehow they insert him into the rest of the group, because I liked his character a lot. He would make a nice addition.
  22. It's from the original TV Pilot script written by Kurtzman, Orci and Phil Iscove. Katrina is mentioned/referred to as being a ghost and was killed by being burned at the stake. They obviously changed their mind and originally were going to kill her off first in the pilot, then in the season 1 finale. Really wish they stuck with that - it would have worked really well actually in the season 1 finale. I so want to see this happen. So much. I am tired of Abbie not calling out Crane and company on their idiocy. She needs to call him out on that, big time. So hubby watches SH with me, but was travelling this week. He likes the show, but is not anywhere near a crazy fan or ships anything. His off-handed comments for various episodes have been gold though and telling of what I think many fans see within this show, or have a similar opinion regarding the show: Season 2, Episode 1 - opening scene - Crane and Abbie with cupcake. "So when are those two going to have sex?" Season 2, Episode 6 - Katrina makes an appearance - "So are they going to kill her off soon?" Season 2, Episode 7 - on seeing a brief clip of the show on the airplane - "I saw Crane giving her mouth to mouth and then she woke up and I was so disappointed. I thought they finally killed her off." Show, if this is what he sees as a regular viewer, can you imagine what the rest of us, who LOVE the show see?
  23. I really liked this one, to be honest. Zed is much more interesting and has good chemistry with Constantine, than Liv was. So much better. I'm actually looking forward to them working together. So is she going to pop in and out of the show, or will appear in each episode?
  24. How about Lt. Abbie Mills: Awe-inspiring, Heroic and the Voice of Reason Or Lt. Abbie Mills: The Heroic Voice of Reason Heroic because Crane calls her that in the first season. Awe-inspiring, a bit of a play on a conversation from last season (the awful intercourse one) I would like to see the Voice of Reason in there somehow, because by god, is she ever....
  25. Goffman to me is the problem. Not the new writers, not FOX. The new writers are told what idea to write. Goffman has long been a Katrina-stan, so he's pushing her to the forefront. The writers have no reason to consistantly be writing Ichabod as so bloody stupid with regards to their son. Truly. He is an utter moron for his beliefs and Abbie deserves better. So much better. Even Hawley would be like, "Excuse me?" to the stuff that Katrina tries to pull. This show would have been so much better, so much more interesting if Katrina was evil. Seriously. It's character assassination to me - so many good characters (Abbie, Ichabod, Jenny, Frank) all sacrificed on the alter of Henry/Katrina. All destroyed and marginalized to promote those two... Yes Fringe people I get you want Noble to get his Emmy and yes Goffman, I know you muse over Katia, but you are ruining your show. Destroying it just to suit your own personal whims and fantasies...So. Much. Hate....
