^^ This. And I believe prior to the game, the commentators were talking about the fact that Cousins is doing really good and he has the next few weeks to prove that he should be a starter before RGIII comes back. Well, so much for that.
-
Well, c'mon guys - you are allowed to discuss how badly the Washington Redskins are doing against the New York Giants and what is this? Attempting to break the record for interceptions, Washington? Sheesh.

Oh, that's a good one! I was wondering how Headless got the necklace. There must be two. Ichabod still has the original one. The second one was created by Headless or Moloch or whoever and inbued with magical powers so that Katrina can see Headless as Abraham and actually talk to him. A bit of a slap in the face, reminder to her that Abraham is the one who bought her that necklace, but also that Crane picked it out.

All Episodes Talk: Buns of Steel
HalcyonDays replied to Meredith Quill's topic in Iron Chef America [V]
The show, just like the Food Network itself, has become a parody of itself and all about the gimmick. It's sad really. I loved watching for Jeffery's snarking judging, and the amazing meals these chefs made out the secret ingredient. It was always fun. Some of the special themes were good, like Battle Thanksgiving and the such, but now there is no substance. It's Flay yelling at his obnoxious sous chef, or the stupid culinary curveball or judges who are not worthy to judge anything commenting on the food. I used to love ICA (when they showed the entire seasons here) and it's really gone downhill now. It's like it's still a cheap show to make for them, some chefs get exposure, good ratings I guess and it's easy work for the Iron Chefs, so what the hell! Keep it going. I want them to go back to the classics. Good food, proper judging and no gimmicks. -
Maybe because the older gentlemen had more fatty livers, and therefore much more tasty (read: fois gras). God, I grossed myself out typing that... This is a great episode - one of my favourite. Tooms is perfectly creepy (Doug Hutchison did a good job) but then can swing to young and seemingly innocent. Mulder almost being in his head, knowing exactly what Tooms was doing. Mulder really is a dork hidden behind the fine form of David Duchovny. But that is what's endearing and very admirable about him - he has his beliefs and won't let peer pressure shoot them down or change them. I love that about Mulder. And Scully sticking by Mulder's side - awesome. Especially her shooting down Colton. Great episode.

Just watched the pilot and second episode and I enjoyed it very much, I would have to say. However, all I could keep thinking throughout was that this show is Sleepy Hollow meets Castle. Sleepy Hollow - British guy, quirky, odd, sassy who first 'died' 200 years ago, yet didn't really die, and is living in modern times. He is working with a female police detective solving strange cases. Character names - Abigail, Henry and Abraham. Flashbacks to previous times to show quirky Brit's life. Castle - Female detective who looks almost identical to Beckett, even dressed like Beckett solves cases with a weird yet charming guy who has an uncanny knack for finding clues. Murder boards. Detective wears a wedding ring that means something to her around her neck. Standing around solving cases that tend to have weird twists. Boss who sees the genius with police detective, but warns her not to let her personal life affect her work. So far, it's good. I'll DVR it and watch.

Are you talking about the opening credits. I think shorter just for the premiere, to not lose the flow of the opening. They did the same thing for one of the episodes last season too. Personally, I would rather have truncated credits and more live-screen stuff going on.

Totally agree with this. She lied, manipulated and made her people suffer just so she could test out her little delusional experiment. The ending really felt weak and that she suffered no punishment or consequences due to her actions was just wrong. I don't expect them to put her in the box, but the colonists seemed like they merely shrugged their shoulders and went on with it. So she didn't learn anything, except it's easy to make your people weak. Her crimes were quite significant and the bad outweighed the good. I did love Sisko willing putting himself back into that oven just to make a point, show he couldn't and refused to be manipulated. Love the man.

That's why I've nicknamed him The Chameleon in my head. Depending on his hair, clothes, facial hair, glasses or no, and of course mannerisms/movements etc, he really is unrecognizable. People like Robert DeNiro and Brad Pitt and actors like that, you know it's the actor. Not with Mison. He looks/acts so different all of the time which is good for an actor but not good if they want to get easily recognized. Only with the chameleon-like talent of Mison, can you have an individual wear skinny jeans and a button down shirt - that the guy would wear in real life - and make it look just so wrong...

No, it should be Ichabod GRUMP. (I love him grumpy) Katrina is not dead. She was trapped in Purgatory by her witch coven, very much alive. The tombstone that says she was burned at the stake was a decoy. I never thought of that - they haven't said it yet but then it would make sense. She is supposed to be able to "apparate", so once she gets her powers back, she should be able to get the heck out of there, unless like you said, the cottage blocks her powers. That is what I have read to - but the reverse. That the older English accent was more like the American, and the Brits changed theirs to distinguish themselves from the Americans and just to be different. From Wikipedia: Studies on historical usage of English in the United States and the United Kingdom suggest that spoken American English did not simply evolve from British English, but rather retained many archaic features British English has since lost.

Hey Everyone. Just a reminder - I know these topics are very contentious and spark serious emotion, but please try to respect everyone's opinion and point of view on the matter. There is also a handy feature called Ignore to help you out otherwise. Thank you.

Yeah, but SH is on the worst day - Monday Night Football of all things. Any other day and it would be fine. Apparently in real life, doctors tried to resurrect Washington a few years after he died. So again, it's the twistory of SH.

Lt. Abbie Mills: Lef-tenant Fist-bump
HalcyonDays replied to mad_typist's topic in Sleepy Hollow [V]
I had to rewind on the "Lef-tenant" versus "Lieutenant" thing because I didn't catch it. Yeah, I love that she is so resourceful and smart and the logical thinker of the group. And I think that Beharie is a really good actress. She can say so much with just her eyes/expression. -
Sleepy Hollow Quotes: "Farewell, Yolanda"
HalcyonDays replied to ElectricBoogaloo's topic in Sleepy Hollow [V]
Crane: Open your eyes sir. Yes you! Basket face. I thought only horses slept standing up!! Crane: How fortuitous. An officer of the law with a criminal past. Imagine the delinquency we could perpetrate if we really put our minds to it. Crane: Excellent. This day continues to bear gifts. Will we be sharing a cell, Lieutenant? Jenny: What's your name? Tall, dark and British? Ichabod: My name is Ichabod Crane. Jenny: Huh. What do your friends call you? Ichy? Ichabod: Not if they wish to remain my friends. Ichabod: An old flame of mine was a seamstress. She'd be well impressed. Abbie: Who was your date, Betsy Ross? Ichabod: How did you know that? Crane: Not that the drive-thru wasn't impressive, and despite this establishment's nomenclature, this resembles no Scottish meal I've ever eaten. Abbie: Have you ever heard of a boondoggle? Ichabod: If it's another form of restrictive trouser, I'd rather not. Abbie: Chopping down a Christmas tree? Ichabod: An altogether nonsensical concept. Celebrating Yuletide with a titular display of lumber. Abbie: Whoa. Bah, humbug to you, too, Ebenezer. Crane: One sign of the impending apocalypse is surely skinny jeans. -
Oh my fucking god - how amazing was this. AMAZING. *breathe....* Just loved it. Totally did not expect this, even though I read like a zillion spoilers. Well done show. Bloody well done. The little fake out in the beginning with the 'year' after Jenny/Katrina's death and kick-ass Crane and Abbie. How I loved that. Finding out that Henry/Jeremy/Moloch was messing with them to find out info about the key - brilliant. Jenny being the absolute most bad-ass ever. What, you strap me to a chair?? Fools. Crane driving the ambulance into the warehouse - My god, gold. The amazing shoutout about the pronounciation of the word Lieutenant - and using it as a plot point. Oh show, how I love thee. Love IT. The scene where Abbie summons Crane from Moloch's little hideaway was so beautiful - god these two are amazing together - like their chemistry is magic and the hugs and feelings are so wonderful and heartfelt and just make me so happy. Again, I always have in the back of my mind that Crane - someone raised in the reserved 18th century and who is married - should not be anywhere near as professive of affection as he is with Abbie. But he is. God, is he ever. That hug with Jenny too - Tom Mison has chemistry with almost anything - he and Lyndie Greenwood and Nicole Beharie - all made of win. I am hoping to see more of Jenny/Ichabod friendship in the future because I think Jenny's 21st century snark would pair perfectly with Ichabod's 18th century snark. And now - for the bad. I really, really don't understand what the show intends with Katrina. I mean, she is supposed to be a powerful witch. And I want to see that. And okay, since she was so long in Purgatory, I get that she may have lost some of her powers. But I do not understand how she could not simply summon a flame, and burn away the bindings that held her. So okay, let's just say that she has very very limited powers due to Purgatory and Henry is suppressing them - fine. I'll accept that. It does make sense. But do you realize that the way she was tied up, she could have literally stood up from the chair and freed herself. She was not bound to the chair. She just had her arms pulled back behind the chair. ANYONE could escape that. Simply Stand Up. And from spoilers, I really expected that she would be the one to cast the spell to be able to view Headless as Abraham, but no, it was the necklace that was imbued with a charm by Moloch or whoever, to allow Katrina to see Headless with Head. I do not understand what they are doing with her. *shakes head* So back to the good - God, those hugs between Ichabod and Abbie. Those hugs. So amazing and loved that Ichabod tried to record a message to Abbie, and that he desperately tried to rescue her. And him getting out of the coffin - loved it. Never thought of that - basically blowing his way out. I fully expected the weeds/roots around him to be magically holding him restrained, but his knowledge of "gunpowder" and basically how he got out - again - show, how I love thee!!!

Live With Kelly And Mark - General Discussion
HalcyonDays replied to Shermie's topic in Live With Kelly And Mark
I noticed it last Sunday while watching FOX NFL Sunday - it's just lost a ton of weight and is not so bulky anymore. He's more slender in musculature now. As a Defensive end, he was a big big guy - now he's more slender and has a different haircut. But it was really noticable. -
Honestly, my thinking is coming from a TV show called Mayday - which details the causes of notable airplane crashes (really fascinating show, BTW - highly recommend). One of the most glaring aspects of the show is that as planes become more and more advanced, the pilots have to rely more and more on computers to fly the birds. But if something happens to the hydraulics or the computer cannot adjust the necessary aspects of the aircraft (aileron, elevator, landing gear) etc, then it would be in the best interest of the pilot to have the option to manually do the work. As a Canadian, I am partial to the story of the "Gimli Glider" - a perfect example of how automation can only do so much and isn't the answer to everything. It highlights how a pilot's natural skill in flying clean (no automation) is so, so important.

Just wanted to add this - I would expect that - even in a scenario with modern computer technology - that manual overrides are possible. For Extant, when "BEN" would not let the shuttle/ship launch from the Seraphim. I mean, yes, computers are great (when they work properly), but I have it in my mind that you still need the ability to shut that computer down and literally pull a manual lever which launches you..that kinda irked me. Because it would be a massive mistake for humans to solely rely on computers to help them. And Molly pleading with "BEN" - please. It knows no emotion - it's not going to respond. So it would be wise to have an override protocol where one could manually disengage docking clamps (terminology stolen from ST:DS9) and get the heck out of there. That really ran false to me.

Hmm...it felt like more of a SERIES finale, than a SEASON finale. Everything was wrapped up until the very end, and the very end was like an X-Files episode. where it's like 'well, there are aliens...whatever...' I expect that this should be renewed, but it seems like the showrunners strongly feel that it won't be renewed. Hmmm,.. I don't like kid-centric stuff, but the "face-off" between alien-kid and Ethan was actually pretty awesome. Loved it. Evil bloody alien boy - yes! You know, I really love Goran Visnjic - yes, there is too much "My Ethan, my boy" for my taste, but dammit, he is fine and a pretty good actor. I like him. Can I just say that the launch of the spaceship that took Molly to the Seraphim...made me really sad. Because it looks very much like NASA's recently scuttled space Shuttle program and just to really realize that the Shuttle program is literally dead...again makes me depressed. (note: I drooled over the Shuttle Discovery in the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Smithsonian museum in Washington. It makes me sad, as a space geek.)

Spoilers and Spoiler Discussion: How's Your Head?
HalcyonDays replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in Sleepy Hollow [V]
Well, actually that may be a most likely incorrect assumption based on what I've seen. In terms of promotion material, snippets and such, it has been ALL Ichabod and Abbie. To the point of people commenting that the show has released nothing on Katrina and Ichabod. From Hollywood premieres to ComicCons to pictures to official twitters to magazine articles to promos - everything that I've read and seen - it's all Abbie and Ichabod. Katrina is actually being matched up with Abraham, to the point that the official Sleepy Hollow twitter actually tweeted a comment that their own fates were entwined. Abbie and Ichabod are the co-leads. One cannnot exist without the other and the show knows that. In fact, if one piece of the puzzle were missing, the show would suffer greatly and the show knows that also. They want ratings. The only reason it works is the ridiculous chemistry between Mison and Beharie. The showrunners have even said that in season 2, they had to "move mountains" to ensure that Abbie and Ichabod are together as much as possible. That is quite telling. Abbie is supposed to get two love interests. Corbin (and thus his relationship with Abbie) gets some love. They will delve into Abbie and Jenny's family - mother and father. Jenny is a regular cast member now. All we can do is wait and see - One week to go! -
I absolutely love this episode. It's one of my favourites. Just the little things that tip off O'Brien, and how he quickly realized the shady behaviour of the rest of the crew. Bashir trying to give him a physical, Keiko acting strange at dinner, the crew withholding information from him and genuinely acting weird. Then the twist at the end - no it's not the crew itself, its O'Brien himself. Just loved this episode. It's also an episode that makes me so glad Berman and Piller brought Miles over to DS9. Colm Meaney is a stellar actor and was solely underutilized on Next Generation. Such a waste there. And I love TNG. But he really got a chance to shine, along with the other actors. It really was casting gold and the perfect environment for that character.

It's ridiculous how excited I am for this. Only one week and I get my dynamic duo back on screen.
