  1. That is such an interesting question. From the way it was shot, where one path was straight ahead and the other was off to the right, I felt like I was to assume that they took the wrong one. As they went off to the right, the camera was looking straight ahead at the empty path they did not select. It just felt like the camera was telling us, "NO! Go down this one you dummies!"
  2. Well, on the one hand, it is nice to know that this show follows through on its foreshadowing and tossed somebody through the moon door just like we speculated here a couple weeks ago. I had hoped it would be the kid and that maybe mom would jump in after him. Maybe it will end up being the other way around. On the other hand, I am not so happy the show follows through on its foreshadowing, because took The Hound's story about his brother to mean that it would be him who eventually gets his revenge. I mean, after that revelation to Arya, can I picture him just getting the news on the road that The Mountain is dead? No, I can't. And I don't like where that train of thought brings me at all.
  3. That is a really good point. I was wondering if they were going to end what we saw of them in this episode with Arya taking The Hound off of her list. The parallel I saw was with Dany's story where there are shades of gray, and maybe people who have done harm in the past can do good in the future. But mostly all I could think about after he told the story about his brother is that it sure sounds like the end of The Mountain, should there ever be one, needs to come at the hand of Sandor. And if that is what I was supposed to get out of him telling that story to Arya last night, then I am feeling very uneasy about the future of two of my favorite characters. Not good.
  4. Okay, let me try this: A documentary style show where a narrator takes us through an entertaining but crazy lady's various strange shortcuts as she creates meals, cocktails, and some unusual decorating ideas.
  5. I read that in a conference call with reporters, CW president Mark Pedowitz hinted that The Flash was only scheduled at 8 p.m. Tuesdays after they learned that ABC is moving S.H.I.E.L.D. from that time to 9 p.m. That's some good thinking right there. Looks like my Tuesday has a nice solid block of DVRing to do.
  6. As I'm sure you all saw the incredible video of the cat chasing off the dog attacking a four year old boy, I thought I would share something with you. After I got over the first two thoughts which were, "Oh my god! That could have been much worse!" and "Holy crap! That cat was awesome!", the third thought that came to my head was "Go get help Cat Lassie!" I don't really remember when I first saw this, or where it came from, but as a cat and dog owner, it's always made me laugh.
  7. Malcom also had my favorite implied quote: [unlike that pussy Tommy.]
  8. When Richard left in disgrace the first time, I was kind of hoping his plan was to go home and bring back Erlich. Richard didn't end up asking for his help, which disappointed me. At some point he needs to get a grip on who to ask for which kind of help, which I suppose was the theme of the episode. Regardless of how it happened, Erlich confronting the little shit (other than the slap, which caught me by surprise) played out exactly how I thought it would. Of course Erlich would thrive on intimidating some punk ass kids. Of course he would.
  9. I did spend some time thinking about it before I wrote that, and I felt like it should be Taran and Kate (because they are awesome,) but of the entire group, Aidy is the only one who appears to be willing to take the wheel and steer every week. Bobby too, come to think of it.

Seems like time for a coaching change. Sometimes the message from a coaching staff gets stale, even from a great coach.

I watched the entire second half of the Rangers/Penguins last night on the edge of my chair. No other sport does that to me. Or maybe it's just the Rangers and their long tradition of letting me down.
  12. Scripps (owner of Food Network and HGTV) notices. But more importantly, they notice how much advertising revenue each show brings in for them. And feel free to tune me out now, as I'm about to talk boring TV business stuff for a few minutes. Scripps is an unusual major media company in that they get a far greater percentage of their total revenue from advertising than the others. For example, in their most recent filings with the SEC, Scripps says that they generated 69% of their revenue from advertising and 30% from affiliate fees (aka: how much of our cable bill gets sent on to them each month.) I'll assume the other 1% comes from Food Network junk sold at Target. All of the other big companies are closer to the numbers reported by Viacom (Nick, MTV, VH1) which has the advertising revenue closer to 50%, affiliate fees 45% and a more substantial amount from other licensing deals like DVD sales and probably selling shows to NetFlix and so on. I read just yesterday this bit about Scripps in CableFax Daily: Scripps Networks Interactive saw 2Q net income rise 19% to $128mln, while rev increased 8% to $6.44mln. Bernstein Research noted that Scripps is more dependent on advertising as a percentage of rev than any other US large cap media company, which seems bad given that media investors are “clearly spooked” about advertising. On the other hand, Scripps advertising behaves differently than the rest of the sector and has proven “very resistant to ratings ups/downs, and less cyclical than total advertising spend,” the analysts said. Execs on Thurs’ call talked about advertisers’ reaction to Scripps’ upfront and NewFront, suggesting it doesn’t have to be an either/or for buyers. CEO Ken Lowe said there’s recognition that Scripps is delivering on a multiplatform basis. “There will be some migration... to newfront, but I think that will be over time. We’re already there, to a large degree, with a lot of the relationships we have with our clients on multiplatform,” Lowe said. In other words, advertisers have been willing to overlook mediocre ratings because Scripps programming reaches very specific demographics which they believe makes their advertising more effective. So it's not so simple with the Food Network to assume that better ratings for the Sandwich Guy means more revenue. It's probably the most important thing, but it is possible that the people watching Giada might be different kind of people than the ones watching Sandwich King, and that one group is more desirable than the other. Or it could be that the difference between 0.5 and 0.4 doesn't mean much to the revenue stream.
  13. Edited to add another relevant word. A documentary style show where a narrator takes us through various strange shortcuts during the creation of meals, cocktails, and some unusual decorating ideas.
  14. It seems unbelievably far-fetched that they could have figured out ANY of the clues let alone find residue and correctly identify it. So I think the only logical assumption I can make would be that he was in on the scheme. At least now I have the motivation for framing Tyrion explained. Lady Olenna probably didn't care who took the rap. Littlefinger didn't really seem to have any ill will towards Tyrion. But Pycelle? Now HE would gladly set up Tyrion. It's probably all he ever thinks about.
  15. Jeez. If The Mountain is one of the champions, I sure hope he's Tyrion's guy. I don't like ANYBODY'S chances against that guy.
  16. The whale blowing up and the "Damian is a feline sociopath" moments were my two favorite. Both made me laugh very honest laughs. I think with the whale, it was that I knew it was coming, but they made me forget about it with the stupid song just long enough that it surprised me when it happened. And for Damian, it was the explanation of what sociopath means in Kate's matter of fact voice that really got me.
  17. I think the proper expression should be fear. Because she has been hell bent on marrying into this family, and this trial is giving her a very scary look into what they are capable of doing.
  18. I agree. And the fact that I like him makes me fear greatly for his life. He needs to keep up his distrust of the Lannisters.
  19. I think we all agreed with you at the time. The entire set of characters ended up being really rich, and their relationships with each other were worth tuning in every week regardless of the cockamamie plots they would sometimes cook up for us. I barely remember any specifics of the show, but bringing up the relationship between Casey and his daughter does bring a smile to my face. And yes, it would have been nice to have seen more of it. And to be fair, I think the show would have done a lot more exploring of the rest of the characters if it wasn't always 30 seconds away from being cancelled. They always had to write the story arcs in a way that finished seasons as if there were not going to be another one.
  20. Oh my goodness, that dog! I posted a picture of my dog staring at me just like that in the Post Your Pet Photos! thread here. Man, I don't think even Garrett could have pulled the trigger.
  21. I think they left it vague intentionally. We only saw three things: 1. Garrett told Ward to take care of Buddy. 2. Ward couldn't do it and fired the shot into the air, which as we knew he would, caused Buddy to run off and look for whatever it is he was supposed to retrieve. 3. SOMEBODY was looking at Buddy running around through a scope. The vague part was who was looking through the scope. If it were Garrett, I think we can assume he probably shot our beloved Buddy, and there sure is heck isn't any reason to show a lab being shot dead to an audience on prime time network TV. We can also hope that if it were Garrett looking through the scope, he could have been just using the scope as binoculars to see whether or not Ward did it, and maybe he didn't shoot the dog. And if it were Ward looking through the scope, I guess we could assume he just couldn't do it when the dog was staring right at him, but could do it from a distance, or we could assume he was just using the scope to see Buddy one last time. But I am having a hard time figuring any way where it makes sense that Ward was looking through the scope. I thought his orders were take care of the dog, get your stuff and to join Garrett to get out of there. When exactly would he have time to pick up a rifle and look for Buddy? It makes more sense to me that after Buddy took off running, Garrett had the rifle out to see if Ward did it or not.
  22. The pictures of the cast were really, really cool. And then I read the comments because I was hoping somebody would help me identify a couple people in the photos. (Some of them look very different when out of the GoT hair and costumes.) My advice is, don't read the comments. It was the old, harmless, harmless, stupid, harmless, SPOILER thing. Bastards.
  23. Nope. Ward can't kill the dog. Ward can't live up to the advice from the true bad guy to "not get attached to anybody". As Skye noted, he's a mur-diddly-urderer, but he actually cares about the dog and people with dog-like tendencies.
  24. There is no way that Ward thought he was killing Fitz (Simmons maybe, but Fitz, no way.) They don't end that whole dog/weakness back story right before dropping the kids out of the plane without it meaning that Ward still can't kill the family dog. Besides, they set up the quarter thing with new-Ward (who Fitz doesn't trust) having the other one. They showed the quarter AGAIN in his hand after they were captured. So it is pretty obvious the quarter will help the team find him. They also showed Garrett asking if he could cross Fitzsimmons off the list, or if it were a weakness. I would assume that this plays back to Ward letting the dog go, but I assumed it was Garrett who later sighted the dog in scope and cleaned up after Ward's weakness.* The show also showed us Garrett lecturing Ward to NOT get attached to anybody when he went off to become a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent. There is just WAY too much evidence pointing towards Ward knowing that Fitzsimmons would have a chance to survive the "drop them out of a plane" method of crossing them off the list. * We were also left with the knowledge that Garrett is going to be okay. We were told earlier by Flowers that he has the serum in him, but he told us it didn't make him strong because he was "too far gone". We can probably assume that NOW he will be strong. We can also assume that Garrett will be physically able to once again clean up Ward's weakness. So I guess the question is, will Ward let him kill Fitzsimmons the way he killed the dog? So I'm not overly thrilled that they are going down the path of, "sure he's a bad guy and a murderer, but he can't kill dogs and people with dog-like loyalty."
