  1. Mexican doesn't seem odd to me as a menu choice in the LA area. It's very ubiquitous around here from my experience. And the buffet doesn't seem strange to me either. (Ahem, I'm going to have a buffet style dinner at my wedding and um, it's still rather pricey). It DOES seem strange to me to have all your friends help you clean up after about 300 people. Like ... just the overall scale of her wedding, it feels like you need to hire a clean-up crew.
  2. Was she supposed to be a full on planner or just a "day of coordinator"? I'm planning a wedding in LA right now and 3K is a about right for a 'day of coordinator' from what I've seen but it would be super low for an all-out planner. But whatever, Scheana's flower budget is apparently my Entire wedding budget ... There's no way she paid for all of it. That said, I liked looking at the wedding! Also it was ridic how that 'planner' didn't seem to have discussed anything with her ahead of time.
  3. I know, I know. She just really needs real friends right now. Who can drop everything at every moment to brush her hair and tell her that she's pretty and remark on how much she clearly Loves life.
  4. Guys, I'm so sorry. I didn't end up going to see Kim at the Witch Mountain screening ... work ran late and then a friend invited me out for drinks and ... well, poor Kim got lost in the wayside. I know, I know, I let everyone down. I wonder if she showed up ...
  5. I'm going to try to go. This is one of those moments where I wish RHBH wasn't such a guilty pleasure because I really don't want to go alone. I have no idea who I know who watches it! (Except for my mom, but she doesn't live here.) Maybe I'll pitch it to my boyfriend as a campy movie opportunity and just not mention the whole Kim Richards angle.
  6. So I'm on the mailing list for Cinefamily (a movie theater here in LA) and I was really surprised to see promotional email from them touting "See Kim Richards in person". This Friday they're showing Escape from Witch Mountain with Kim Richard appearing in person http://www.cinefamily.org/films/kid-power/#escape-to-witch-mountain. A perfect Friday the 13th event indeed ...
  7. "With cameras." Me thinks Kyle was trying to sober up a clearly fucked up Kim because she was afraid of what Kim might blather on about in that ride, what skeletons her intoxicated state might cause to leak from her lips. . Hmm. I read that part differently. I think she's trying to say that she wanted to sober Kim up before she went in a car with cameras to show that she was trying to prevent her from being further embarrassed on camera. Especially since LisaR definitely would have said to Kyle that Kim was acting wonky on the ride over. <Shrug> It's easy to spin it either way. If you're pro-Kyle, you can say this is an example of her trying to be a good sister. If you're anti-Kyle, well, you can read it the other way. I'm not particularly pro-Kyle, but I'm definitely anti-Brandi. I think in general, Kyle's not the brightest bulb and really doesn't know how to control her emotions when Brandi is saying things like "I'm there for Kim and you're not!". And I totally second the people who say that Brandi is disingenuous and using Kim. Honestly, I think Brandi is a garbage person, plain and simple. She's rude and crude, she's nasty, and she's a mean violence-inclined drunk. I want her gone.
  8. I just found this show and I'm hooked. I like the sort of casual sense of time travel where Becca is still floundering to figure it out and focused on herself instead of trying to change the world. That feels weirdly realistic. And I love the portrayal of female friendship in all forms, from frenemy to bestie. Also we better find out the deal between her and future Lolly before it gets cancelled because I just can't stand teases like that.
  9. This is so awesome. Thanks to Sarah and John for putting this together!
  10. Everything about Brandi tonight was incredibly embarrassing to watch. It's awful. Get her off the show. Lisa is right, she's a "wounded little girl" but ... I'm done. At least we got to see Lisa and Eileen gawp at her in horror.
  11. Watching a rerun right now of the Kandi, Todd, and Sharon dinner ... I want to reach into the screen and smack Kandi. She thinks its so cute that Joyce asked for Sharon's birthdate so she can look up her record. The way she's smirking and smiling that whole time -- even throwing up her hands and laughing when she admits she lied about Joyce talking about Sharon -- what is wrong with her? At the end of the day, Kandi revels in her mother's nasty antics. At this point I'm rooting for Joyce to continue to rip Kandi off. And she can smirk and giggle about 'that's how my mom rolls'.
  12. I thought the yurt seemed pretty cool but I hated the way she decorated it. Oh well. I will say that this tiny house angle managed to lure my boyfriend into watching House Hunters for the first time (he usually just drifts away when I turn it on) so that's good. But yeah, she was a lot to take.
  13. I get a big kick out of this show, but man, the whole Eseni thing is driving me crazy. I believe she has real issues and that her spirituality is sincere, but ... she is not going to become a nun. She needs counseling and healing (maybe from a nun?) but ... there's just no way this calling is right for her. She makes me want to yell at the tv. And Francesca ... wow, that voice makes me want to hit the mute button every time. Still, I love seeing the different convents and the sisters are all pretty cool. I love hearing them talk about their missions and I kind of liked how Sister Beth Ann was gossiping and name dropping. Nuns are people too! Also, it was really surreal hearing these girls say that they were scared of going to Chicago, like it was a super scary place.
  14. Interesting bonus scene of some 'friend' telling Danielle about her own experience marrying and Egyptian man. No one can say that she wasn't cautioned that her road might be difficult. Oy. http://www.tlc.com/tv-shows/90-day-fiance/videos/i-give-it-three-months.htm
  15. Emily Nussbaum from "The New Yorker" has an interesting blog post about tonight's episode: http://www.newyorker.com/culture/culture-desk/the-newsroom-crazy-making-campus-rape-episode?int-cid=mod-latest. I really liked this part: I think that's the key thing here. I felt like the show was presenting an either/or that didn't really make sense. Of course, a televised debate between someone accused of raper and the person who accused him is a terrible idea! But instead of exploring how tv news could engage better with these issues, the show took the stance that there's no middle ground. Maybe Don could have a done a story about all those untested rape kits and investigated how the legal system deals with 'acquaintance rape'. To me, it felt like the show just threw up its hand and had Don be like 'ack, this is too complicated, I'm just going to kill this story.' (I feel like I'm not being as articulate as Ms. Nussbaum so I just super encourage people to read her take.
  16. zzzzzzzzz. What a disappointment! I was really looking forward to watching this today but ... what a letdown after the fun of the white party. Oh well. Hopefully, Eileen will bring something to the mix next week.
  17. I really enjoyed the couple moving to Panama. They seemed genuine and it was neat seeing them adjust their expectations. Also, they had a funny dynamic, go-with-the-flow Trish and very vocal Greta. I found this little article about them http://insiderlouisville.com/lifestyle_culture/louisville-couple-featured-hgtv-house-hunters-international/. I hope they enjoy their adventure!
  18. I'm pretty sure Daya just thinks "instamom" is another word for "stepmom". Every time she uses it, "stepmom" would make just as much sense ... I blame Mr. Liverlips for introducing her to this stupid fake word.
  19. I went to see Beyond the Light the other night (great movie btw!) and there was an ad before the movie featuring none other than "internet famous" Shane Dawson (that's how he described himself in the ad). So ... good for him? But um, maybe I'll avoid Pacific Theaters for a while ...
  20. This is a great question. They mentioned in passing that Shane was ranked #5 on Itunes for a while. That seems pretty impressive to me, but not to Chris Moore. By putting success into 'ticket sales' and not overall sales, Moore and the rest sort of demonstrated why indie films Are struggling: it's because the industry is not really evolving in terms of how they measure success. Similar to how cable and streaming has risen in importance in TV and 'networks' have had to adapt to lower ratings and DVR, the film industry needs to accept that traditional means of selling movies is over. I think Chris Moore realizes this, but he hasn't fully accepted it. Also, in shallow observations: I caught some of the episode again last night as my boyfriend was watching it for the first time and Shane's voice gets higher and scratchier the more defensive he gets. It's really something. I find it hard to believe that anyone outside the world of Youtube would ever want to work with him after seeing how conceited and difficult he was in post.
  21. That's where I heard that before! She drove me nuts. Well, they both did. The guy seemed so satisfied with his taste for classic design. We get it, you know about design, enough. But I still enjoyed seeing the Chicago houses.
  22. Here's a nice long interview with Chris Moore about the show, Shane, Anna, etc. Apparently Shane and Anna were allowed to request that certain scenes get removed from the show, which I didn't realize. http://www.hitfix.com/whats-alan-watching/the-chair-producer-chris-moore-on-shane-anna-and-the-finale/single-page
  23. Yes! That scene at the marriage counseling was so upsetting. The pastor's wife was explaining as simply as possible, "Amy made a giant sacrifice for you, so you need to make some little ones for her" and Danny's reaction was basically "I'm a giant baby and everything about the real world and real women scares me, so um, I don't want to be responsible for her happiness in any shape or form." What was he like when they met? How can anyone be so selfish? Run, Amy!! Run, run, run!!! I wanted the pastor's wife to say, "Well, then you're not ready for a relationship, much less marriage, good-bye." As for the rest of them ... well, yeah, Danielle is a looney toon, but I don't feel any pity for Mo. He's a scam artist who didn't research his mark enough. Learn to use google, Mo. I do feel bad for her kids because ... I mean, geez, unless they manage to get away from Mom, she's going to be a giant drama suck for the rest of their lives. Mo isn't very good-looking imo so maybe that's why Danielle is the best desperate American he could find. Brett's mom looks a little like Daya to me. That's another one where I just feel so bad for that little girl with her weird pathetic dad. It's completely unacceptable to me that she has to sleep in the same bed as him and his fiancee. If I were her mother, I'd demand something be written into the visitation agreement that says she needs her own bed. Even an inflatable mattress would be better! Chelsea and Yamir ... They will not last. Yamir seems like a sweet guy, but Chelsea is living in a fantasy world. Maybe the plan is that once he gets a Visa, they'll go move to a city where there are job opportunities for both of them, but .... it all seems like an unrealistic scheme. Sometimes love isn't enough.
  24. And I went to the same school as the winner! I actually don't know him personally but we have mutual friends. Very excited to see how this turns out.
  25. Shane's response to the "hate campaign" against his movie. http://www.thewrap.com/the-chairs-shane-dawson-on-hollidaysburg-producers-hate-campaign-it-became-really-personal/
