  1. Hopper moved to the woods when El came to live with him. He had another place in S1. El definitely didn't go to school before the summer of '85 since she wasn't supposed to go out in crowds. I don't know if Joyce enrolled her in Hawkins before they moved in October of '85 (the title card stated the move was three months after the final S3 showdown on July 4th, so the school year had definitely started by then) or if she simply waited to enroll her in California. El called Mike's place in S3 once and Karen didn't seem surprised when she picked up the phone. So you'd assume she knew something. The easiest story to sell would be Hop finding out about a child from a past relationship and bringing her to live with him. But this is just a long winding road leading to - Karen only knows and cares as much as the show wants her to at any given moment. ETA: Unrelated to this, the teacher im California, while apparently well meaning, was just way too soft. Multiple children were laughing on the face of a girl telling everyone her dad had died. He didn't even need to die as a hero, her dad died. That's not something you laugh at, you disgusting psychos. The teacher should have brought the hammer down HARD for that. Including, but not limited to regular visits to a psychatrist at least until the end of the school year. There is something were off with them reacting like that.
  2. I'm coming late to the party, but Hopper was the Chief of police in Small Town, USA, so a pretty public figure. He wasn't somebody people in town didn't know. I love the way they handled Lucas branching out. There was no typical ignoring of your old, unpopular friends. Instead he planned on using his potential future popularity for all of them, including Max who had dumped him yet again. He hasn't even given up on D&D, he's still a member of their party, he simply had a scheduling conflict that night. This was a really excellent episode for his character. For Max' as well, even if her storyline is depressing. Along with the things that had already been brought up, I think what's eating her up is that she didn't like Billy a lot of (most of) the time. So her feelings are more complex than after losing someone you unequivocally loved. There's a lot of conflicting emotions in this case. The mascot went all in. Loved the way he had everyone stand up for the Muppet rendition of the national anthem. And hey, Tammy did to Nashville! This also confirms that Robin was actually taking an advanced class, since Tammy was apparently in the same year as Steve. You mean his two older, male friends? 😂
  3. That's what I assume as well. It's present all around, it's only a matter of portals where it crosses over. I don't think the plan was to shut the portal. Killing demodogs or demogorgons never did that. It was to weaken the big bad because the demogorgons were connected to him through the hive mind, so that El stood a better chance.
  4. Jason riling the town up was one of the scarier scenes of the season. It also made me go, 'Oh, that's their future mayor. Or a circuit preacher.'
  5. Since Vecna needed four kills to open four gates does that mean that the four people with connections to him and/or other parts of UD - El, Will, Max and Nancy - are the four corner stones to winning in the final season?
  6. They're actually correcting a continuity error about Will's birthday. I'm glad they're not changing that scene with Jonathan.
  7. Season 4 really emphasized what a good cop Hopper is. He was preactically semi-functional in season 1 and he was still doing his job admirably, being inquistive, suspicious, asking the right questions. Powell, while less cartoony of his two deputies, really can't hold a candle to him as Chief. As frustrated as she was with him, I think Flo would be relieved to have him back in charge.
  8. Alice Mondrich, wife of former boxer, current barkeep Will Mondrich.
  9. If the rest of the ladies had husbands glued to their La-Z-Boys like Mr Wheeler, yeah, I can totally see it. You seriously have to wonder if that man is breathing at times. Karen is a total babe and she always tries. We've seen her going by Joyce's when Will disappeared for instance. She deserves more effort. I'd like to know what happened to Dustin's dad. Was there ever a Mr Henderson or has it always been him and his mom?
  10. Or because he's a patriot. First. I can't believe everyone is slamming on Will's hair when we all saw Mike's mess this season. What I want to see: - ending the Steve/Nancy/Jonathan thing. I felt it was handled better in previous seasons and this one felt like a regression. - shaping Robin's character better. It's weird that she felt more fully developed in season 3 than in 4. - definitely on the train of keeping the team together and mixing up the groups and pairings for smaller missions
  11. I rewatched season 1 after finishing this and I think it rings true even if it got lost along the way since Mike became an annoying teenager. After Mike and Lucas clash over El, Dustin refers to Lucas being Mike's best friend. Then, later in season 2 or 3, Will talks about Mike being his best friend. So yeah, I think there's past evidence to support this. I also think Mike is hella annoying now. His newly developed six pack makes up for it. I can't describe how happy I was that he was exercising since I spent a good part of the previous season wishing for him to do just that. This hasn't been 1983 when you spent your time writing speeding tickets for a long time, buddy. You've been battling some nasty shit for a while. It pays to be fit. I'm really unsure about this. There's such a strong connection between Fred and Max and even Victor who was Henry's original victim. They were all haunted by memories of being responsible for someone's death. Even Nancy fits into this. But then there's no indication of Chrissy ever hurting a fly, and basically nothing about Patrick's trauma. I wished they either connected all the victims or had them all vary noticeably. This is how I sad it too. It's an extension of El being able to manipulate others' internal organs. Will Steve ever realize he's destined to become a middle school coach? He's athletic, great with kids that age and could "have" 600 kids that way. I really think that's his calling.
  12. I cannot believe that they didn't explain how Brenner survived in season 1 in an episode titled Papa. Did I blink and miss this at some point? The dude was as resilient as a demogorgon even in this episode.
  13. I don't know, can he? This looks like it needs some help to come in right. It's patchy, but it adds to Colin's boy trying to become a man vibe.
  14. I agree. The groundwork that the show has laid down so far completely changes the outline of that potential story. I can't see Eloise and Philip getting together in the same way at all. Even changing Anthony and Kate's story impacts them. In the books Anthony went with the argument that he had married because of a potential scandal. In the show, it's very much his and Kate's free will and desire to get married.
  15. They don't need Eloise writing to Philip for them to meet. I imagine there's more reason to moving his estate close to Aubrey Hall other than just to have Colin drop in once.
  16. They obviously aren't doing the book jump for Penelope, which would be nine years from season 2, but it doesn't mean they can't do it for Eloise. Book Eloise's moved were greatly motivated by Penelope's story, but in the books they were as close as sisters and Colin was pretty much everyone's favorite. I can very well imagine that if the show gets to Eloise's story, it will be tied to Benedict who she's closest to. Marina dying should definitely be off the table, but I have a hard time imagining the show changing any of the end Games, especially in this case, where they introduced Phillip so early on. I'm not ready to write off the two of them yet, but I imagine if the story gets told, it will diverge significantly from the book.
  17. I don't mind her freezing up, I do raise an eyebrow at Anthony only telling her she's beautiful and desirable once. I'm sorry, are you so busy you can't tell your wife she looks pretty now and again? Throwing this out there - I think show Colin might be a virgin when he and Penelope get together. Anthony certainly presumed so on S1, and it would be another thing in line with his parents. I read the Violet in Bloom things and both Violet and Edmund were virgins when they married.
  18. I just managed to stop myself from doing that yesterday. 😁
  19. Here's a possible undertaking for Colin - finishing university. It really didn't hit me until recently that Anthony funded his travels while he should have been at (I'm presuming) Oxford. We were having discussions about him and Benedict pursuing careers, but I don't think Colin would have been done with university at the age of 20 when he went off on what was basically his gap year. There are possibilities for him in S3, I just don't know how (if) interesting they'll be.
  20. Honestly, if there's anyone I can see picking up the baton, it's Portia. I have no idea about her writing capabilities, but her temperament is better suited than Eloise's IMO. Though my theory is that Lady Whistledown is revealed or is about to be revealed, and Portia covers for Pen.
  21. I've been thinking of a few things. One, Colin and Penelope's story happening a lot earlier than in the books. Two, Colin being younger than in the books. Seeing as it's expected that next season will happen only a year later than this one, that will make them 22 and 19. Which makes them very close in age to Edmund and Violet when they got together (20 and 18). Who were childhood friends if memory serve. So it makes me wonder if one of the reasons for setting their story up like this is to parallel Edmund and Violet. I don't really recall a connection to the parents' story in Romancing Mr. Bridgerton, and it was there on both the first two books and seasons.
  22. The only "announcement" of Rege's return I've seen was on April Fools and that's been disputed. Having Colin and Penelope get together in season 3 is a good way to phase the Featheringtons out. Either have Lady Whistledown become public knowledge or use Penelope's marriage to Colin as an alibi to funnel her profits to her mother and sister. Once the secret is out, I don't really know how important Penelope would be for the show.
  23. This is hardly surprising, but I'm still not sold on Colin and Penelope being able to carry the season. On the one hand, I think their characters would profit from a time jump, but not really sure I'd like how that would affect the rest. I don't want to miss out on the early days od Kate and Anthony's marriage.
  24. Okay, who did they forget, Gregory or Hyacinth? Given the lack of Ruby Stokes' availability, this was a logical step.
