  1. Not sure why people are surprised that Vicki got Morphine. That's given out A LOT in medical situations. My mother hurt her thumb last month and the first thing they did in the ER was give her morphine. I can't tell you how many times my husband and I have been given morphine for minor things. We've actually turned it down a few time because we didn't need it
  2. I worried and don't know what's going on with me. I've warmed a bit to Tamra who is one of my most hated housewives of all time. Ditto to kind of liking heather now. I used to like Shannon, especially in her first season. Now I can't stand her. I'll always love to hate Vicki, but I felt kind of bad for her today. I still despise Meghan, so at least there is that
  3. I can buy it. I put on makeup while having a mini stroke and only being able to use one arm. I probably couldn't have done my hair though
  4. I don't blame Shanon for much. It seems Meghan did not convey things. Meghan.. Yuck. Never liked her. She hates that Vicki might be milking this. This from the woman who has been treating pregnancy like and illness since, well before she was pregnant. How many times will we have to hear about her hormones? ETA, though Heather.. definitely Patronizing. ETA 2.. My husband was watching and saw the commercial for Dont Be Tardy and asked if Kim had a stroke because her wig was too tight. ETA 3... MY husband and I have a history of stokes..He can make stroke jokes
  5. As an anthropology student, this was interesting to me. I don't really think she had much of an accent at all, however, if she did that would not surprise me. Studies have shown that we start to "learn" our accent in the womb and the first 3 years are very very important to language and accent formation. I also don't agree that American Gypsies are making up tradition..Well, I do and I don't. Most American gypsies trace their recent history to Britain. Many Eastern European Gypsies came to the UK and ,after hundreds of years in Britain, their traditions changed and evolved. Most American Gypsies are twice removed from their Eastern European tradition. They may be 400-700 years from their Eastern European routes. IN the meantime, Romanian gypsies would also have evolved, but to a different degree. I would not expect American Gypsy traditions to be super close to Romanian ones. A similar example would be European Jews. Sephardic and Ashkenazic Jews also share the same basic roots, however, their history and locations have differed so much that they do have very different cultural practices.
  6. It's not always a bad thing, and sometimes military families it just sort of happens. The military parent is gone a lot, often for months. The other parent gets used to being the one doing those jobs, as do the kids. I was the guardian for a child whose dad was navy. He was gone for the better part of 2 years after 9/11. I became the one that did all that stuff and it never really changed. Believe me, this man loves his daughter and she loves him. It just became comfortable and routine, and frankly gave her stability. And now Ryan is injured and dealing with a retirement and all that comes with it. She may get more help right now from a healthy mother. I still think Ryan is an ass, but I don't think his relationship with his kids is bad.
  7. Oh, I can tell Ryan loves his kids and they love him. I just get the feeling he's not a terribly active parent. I picture her changing the diapers and doing the "dirty" work. I saw this in a lot of military families., including my own.
  8. I'm sure Brianna went l back to OC for multiple reasons. I believe that she also just doesn't like OK. She's from SoCal. They are very very different. I also feel like Ryan probably doesn't give her a lot of help with the kids. She's sick. I think she may feel that her mother will give her more help. Ryan seems like an ass. I just can't believe he is much help. I also agree with the posters who think that she was not happy to see him.
  9. As someone with a chronic illness, I do understand wanting to stay with the medical professions you are used too
  10. Every time one of them says anything relating to "season of life", I want to throw up. Just me?
  11. He will probably get a rating based on combos of illnesses/injuries. He could be rated say 20% for PTSD and 40% for a back injury, which means he has a total rating of 60%. I doubt he is being discharged just for the PTSD. The military would most likely work with him for that. And his rating can be changed in either direction if his health changes.
  12. It depends on many things. His retirement pay would be 60% of his base pay. He will also likely get paid by the VA. Right now the pay rate for someone rated 100% disabled with a wife and two kids would be about $3260. If his rating is lower say, 60% it would be about 1300. But you technically cannot receive both at once(unless it's a combat related injury) so they roll your retirement pay into your VA pension as the VA pension is tax free and the retirement pay is not. But if he is retired he gets other benefits. Space A travel, Base privileges in the US and partial privileges worldwide. As a retiree, he gets Tricare for his whole family. This is a big deal as Tricare is far superior to the VA health system. He may also qualify for the VA health system depending on how high his disability rating is. And certain states give their own benefits to retirees or Disabled vets. I get a complete property tax exemption in the state of Florida as I am rated 100% disabled by the VA. It has less to do with how long he was in and more to do with how disabled he is, and whether his disability is service connected or non-service connected. I am pretty sure he is service connected. I am also going to guess that he will not get a 100% rating.. More likely 40-60 percent. I'd guess he will get out with $1400-1600 a month
  13. Absolutely true. I did it myself. It confers the same benefits as serving 20 years. He will get retirement pay and most likely, some level of VA disability pension. You are processed out of the military and into the VA system at the same time.
  14. My husband had a different take. Stress caused the eczema to come back. It went away when he had the cat, so maybe the cat helped de-stress him. Maybe now that he has the cat back it will help.
  15. I can't be the only one who let out a cheer at the final shot?
  16. Did no one mention a N'orwegian.. a really bad winter storm
  17. As someone with a double Major in Anthropology(Cultural) and History, I would have to argue against this. Ideas of what is masculine and what is feminine are learned through enculturation, and very across history and location. Now I will say that modern western society has its own beliefs about gender. But they are not universal. Most hunter-gatherer societies were egalitarian and there are large fauna sites(mammoth for one) where the bodies of women hunters were found with men. In fact, one of the most famous megafauna kill site finds, Tepixpan Man, was actually a women. Gender Rolls didn't really develop until the neolithic era when we became sedentary. There are cultures today where women are expected to be loud and aggressive while men are quiet and passive(Gapun, Papua New Guinea). But Heather and Derek don't live in a society like that. He seems to want her to conform to standardized western gender norms.
  18. I think Molly may be the Tyrant with Barry as her puppet.
  19. As a WM, woman Marine...I'm not that neat. I struggle with it. As for what is feminine. Again, I was a Marine, but otherwise, I am stereotypically feminine. I always wear makeup, nice clothes do my hair. That's me in the avatar. But I guess some might not see me as feminine. Whatever. I'm lucky enough to be married to someone who lets me be me and doesn't think I need to fit into a pretty little box. I would never change who I am to keep a man. Nor should any of these ladies have too.
  20. OMG Derek.. You suck. You really really suck.
  21. I just rewatched, and Stacy talks about the computer on camera, with the others right behind her watching.
  22. Strangely enough because of SOFA(Status of Forces Agreement), while retirees can use many base amenities on European bases, others, like the messhall, PX and Commissary are sometimes off limits. This happened to me recently in Ramstein. I was about to use my benefit of free Space A travel to come home to the USA and I tried to by a cord for my Iphone. I got to the register only to realize that I was not entitled to use the PX at all. We also couldn't get a rental car on Ramstein, and had to go off base. I assume they were near Rota or Moron AFB? SOFA does not allow us to use the PX but we can use the smaller shopette there.
  23. I went to Santorini in 2012. My husband and I took the funicular, My sister the donkeys. On the way back they walked down the donkey stairs. They are poop covered at all time. All of these nicely dressed cruise people came back with poop on their shoes and legs. It was probably a pretty smelly journey for him. That gives me pleasure.
  24. This was not one of the better episodes. It is possible Briana got much worse as time went on, only realizing later that it was more serious.. But really, if I wanted to watch a bunch of lying, windbag, narcissists, I would have just watched the Republican National Convention.
