I think you're right. I'd forgotten that. Those poor kids.

This made me so happy. I love her and was afraid the crew and writers would immediately forget all of her growth and new skills. Which Jankom did, of course, but he backtracked quickly and Rok got to save the day.

‘Early Edition’ Gender-Swapped Reboot From Melissa Glenn & DeVon Franklin Gets CBS Pilot Order As discussed above, I'm not sure how they'll update this considering the way we get our news now but I'll definitely give the show a try to find out.

Gender On Television: It's Like Feminism Never Happened
akg replied to Bastet's topic in Everything Else TV
Legends of Tomorrow is another great example of strong women being appreciated and men treating them and other men well (start with season 2). Two of the guys become best friends and they are not uncomfortable showing their affection towards each other and no one ever shames them. Their captain is a woman that everyone respects and supports. She gets the promotion after an episode of an older white man stepping into the role (they're in the 40s so people just assume he's in charge) who then realizes it's not a good fit. -
I kept thinking I'd skipped an episode, especially when their x hours earlier scenes were so brief and barely explained anything. The show could definitely have used at least one more hour this season. That part of the episode confused me. Did Nick spend all of Tiffany's money on the youth center? When he mentioned selling something important, what was it? Halfway through this sentence, I realized he was talking about George's ring. I still don't understand why he needed to sell it though. Especially since I'm living in my own dream world where he and George are seconds away from realizing how stupid they're being by breaking things off completely and getting back together. I was really expecting the scene after the paper signing to be Nancy setting fire to the Hall. Not only is it super suspicious for Temperance to leave it to Nancy but it's a horrible location for Nancy's detective business. It seems pretty remote and is super creepy. Even with her reputation, I think I'd be tempted to hire someone with a nice, normal office in town for my investigating needs. I've decided Nancy hadn't intended to tell her dad, she just felt overwhelmed at that moment and spilled everything. Now that she knows telling people won't kill Ace, she can go to Bess first thing next season (I'm sure the show will prove me wrong immediately but going with this theory makes me feel better).

I'm so glad Tom Swift continues to move forward. The CW isn't always great at following through with spin-offs (Jody and Donna from Supernatural, Birds of Prey) so I keep expecting this one to just go away.

Are the kids still stuck in the liminal space? Ace, Hannah, and poor Lev were able to exit later so, theoretically, the orphans and their horrible guardian (why on earth would you let a random crazy person talk to your charges that way? She was so creepy and threatening) should have spent the last 50 years watching time pass. Which sounds like torture so maybe it's best to believe they died?

This made me so happy. Zari was excellent in that scene, switching from 3 guys to 3 girls for the FMK game and then moving on to explaining asexuality. No pauses, no weirdness, just two friends chatting.

I agree on the parents. I really hope the writers don't just forget and drop how messed up this situation is. -
How I Met Your Father - General Discussion

Surprisingly, yes. -
I did not like the conclusion they drew after their talk but I was very glad Alice and Mary at least acknowledged the weirdness of them hanging out. Agreed. I also loved Luke's comment about the fates of Black people going into forests in the movies. I was really hoping Sophie was serious when she claimed the kiss was just to distract Ryan. Unfortunately, the writers seemed pretty committed to this pairing. More Diggle is always a good thing, for me, and I really enjoyed his scenes with Joan in this episode. Whatever they had in the past, they have a good, fun friend chemistry now. Me too. I miss the original version and I'm dreading the consequences of all of this for her. They've dragged this storyline out too far.

How I Met Your Father - General Discussion

Oh, I hate him. He's such a cliché. I mean, it's not like any of the characters would ever be mistaken for real non-tv people but he's so over the top and fake. -
I hope not. I got the impression from Gwyn's "maybe she found a new calling" that Rok may be moving into Engineering/Sciences going forward. On Rok's specialty: kids can be cruel. Put the youngest, scared-est crewmember in charge of Security, against her objections, because she's made of rocks? If you want serialized in earlier Trek, definitely watch Deep Space 9. So good and awesome story arcs.

How I Met Your Father - General Discussion

I didn't either and I'm so happy people mentioned it here. It is definitely better (I found it on youtube). I really liked the mother and preferred Ted and Robin as friends so keeping those relationships instead of switching them up at the last minute would have been the right call. I do hope the writers have an answer to their mystery now but I also hope they can be flexible if that answer no longer makes sense as we learn more about the characters and see their interactions. -
For anyone who is interested in watching the amazing Farscape, amazon has it up in their prime video section (so free for subscribers).

How I Met Your Father - General Discussion

Add me to the group that hated the HIMYM finale (and most of their last season) but is willing to give this a try. Ten episodes isn't a huge commitment. A very big bonus to this is that the writers can't paint themselves into a corner with how they think things will end at this point in the process. The last scenes of Ted's kids had been filmed years before to catch the actors at the right age and couldn't really be changed (although I have no idea if tptb would have rewritten the ending if they'd had more flexibility). With HIMYF's format, they can adjust the plan if actor chemistry isn't what they expect or they realize a different father would just make more sense in 5 years. -
They weren't super clear in that scene last week but I think Naomi's 'surprise' was being able to drive to the debate, not the car itself. Although I'm not sure about all of the love interests, I am excited about Naomi's friend group and hope the writers are taking notes from Nancy Drew. Nancy is obviously the lead on her show but her friends all have their own personalities and stories and they interact with each other and not just her. Which makes a more realistic and entertaining viewing experience for me. I loved that too and, as much as I hate the constant love triangles on the CW, I'm a little curious how they're going to handle this one (which I guess is really a square?) when the main character is bi (apparently, since all we've seen is some flirting).
-
I will never not love this. I really hope the show follows up on this and we get many more George and Carson scenes. I also loved that George knew that Carson would understand why the alibi backed out and wouldn't push back so the trust and support went both ways. Definitely. I kept waiting for Carson (or anyone) to ask more questions (especially about the security guard's classism which turned out to irrelevant) but I guess they ran out of time. To be fair to Carson, he did mention over breakfast that he had gotten this case last minute so hadn't had much time to prepare. Plus, he thought he had an alibi for his client all lined up.

S07.E07: A Woman's Place Is In The War Effort
akg replied to scarynikki12's topic in Legends Of Tomorrow
Something about this I loved and thought was a little more subtle is that not all of the white women walked about. I didn't count how many stayed but I liked that there was some support but that they weren't the focus. So often, when telling stories about racism, the pov is a white person and what they're doing to help people of color and that wasn't the point here which was refreshing. (on the topic of the CW and how they handle racism/sexism, I want to recommend Nancy Drew. There's some issues in season 1 but, from season 2 on, they do a fantastic job) As fun as this was, this storyline was also something else we rarely see on tv. I know almost nothing about Persian culture so to see some of its customs integrated into a main plot was really nice. Especially that, as annoying as Nate found Bishop, he was all in on learning more about this part of his girlfriend's background and how to impress a family that is important to her. Or Gideon who seemed to be gearing up to share more about what happens in our future (sadly, I can't imagine we're going to stop at II). -
I agree. I'm especially loving Astra and Spooner's friendship (with bonus Gideon). I was afraid for a while the writers were aiming for romance but they seem to have stuck with bffs which I'm enjoying. A romance wouldn't be bad but not every relationship has to end up there. A true friendship can be just as important and, now that we've lost Ray(/Nate) and Mick(/Sara), I've missed seeing that with this group. Me too. Zari 1.0's backstory is so awful and the show has mostly moved on from it so I appreciated the writers remembering and using it to help her bond with Gwyn. Me too. I love him. And I think the team probably needs his superpower: being a white man. Otherwise, they're down to just Gary, right? I'm not sure that was Bishop's idea. When the Legends realized what was falling towards them, I heard someone (Sara?) say "someone pressed the red button" so I think the escape pod has always been a part of the Waverider's design. Which is hilarious to me.

Hee. Me too. It's so weird they decided to just drop what's-her-name from last year. I didn't like her and wasn't interested in her backstory but it's still annoying that the writers set something up and then just expected us to forget everything.

S07.E03: WVRDR_ERROR_100 Oest-of-th3-Gs.gid30n notFound

Considering how good this show has been about diversity and LGBT+ issues, I wish they'd picked something else here. I know in the time the joke was set, there wouldn't have been an issue but we know now and a joke about one of their bisexual characters supporting JKR didn't work for me. I loved that mention so much. Poor Ray. As soon as he mentioned his grandson, I started tearing up, knowing how soon his death was after the birth. I hated Victor Garbor choosing to leave but the show gave him an amazing send off. It would have been fun for Spooner and Astra to meet Amaya. They both joined the crew after she'd left and have only met Charlie. I was not happy to see Hawkman. He was just so creepy and gaslight-y about Hawkgirl not being able to be with anyone but him. I spent a lot of season one hoping he'd be proven wrong and was extremely disappointed when she caved and recognized their epic love. -
S07.E05: It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad Scientist
akg replied to scarynikki12's topic in Legends Of Tomorrow
Yep. I have a friend who married a Welsh man named Davies and she got sick of correcting people on the pronunciation really quickly. It's driving me crazy that everyone on the show is getting it wrong even though Davies corrected Sarah and must be trying with the others also. -
(sorry in advance. I went a little quote-crazy here) Something small I liked: Tyler mentioned Tom Swift's company when talking about his business deals. I'm excited about his spin off (is that still happening?). I agree. I love the two of them together and hope they're endgame but can understand both of them feeling like they can slow down without a deadline hanging over them. But that doesn't necessarily mean completely breaking up. I'm also sad for George's sisters. Nick has done such a great job of becoming a part of their lives and losing him (if that's what happens) is going to hurt. I hope the show doesn't ignore that. Hee. I was fine with Nancy's initial "Ace and Hannah are in trouble" translation but then she just kept going and I started laughing. Ace was really efficient with his message. He was especially impressive considering how badly Nancy had failed at the same thing earlier. She definitely got some of her deviousness from him. I know it was all to serve the Plot but this really bothered me. They all freaked out about Nick 'disappearing' just a few episodes ago and there was less evidence that something was wrong then. And I can't believe Bess didn't call him immediately the next morning to find out what happened with Nancy. They've mentioned how weird Temperance taking her daughter's appearance is a couple of times but I feel like they're just skimming the surface of the creepy. I hope there's some kind of payoff for the switch. I was initially excited about Jean since she was Jo from Eureka but I've been really enjoying her for herself lately. She was right to call Carson out for trying to protect the adult women in his life that way. It also isn't going to look great to his co-workers, boss, and the city. Nancy is enough younger than him to be significant at that age and he can be seen as her boss at the police station. I was ok with the confessions of feelings but the closet and then their immediate decision to be super couple-y at the party didn't make as much sense for the characters.

I agree that injecting Marquis was a huge risk but, if she wanted to get him away from Luke, she didn't have a choice. Marquis wasn't going to let her grab anything else to throw. I wish they'd done a better job of explaining how the Poison Ivy personality/infection/whatever affects people. How much of this new Mary is still her and how much is because of what's happening to her? She doesn't seem interested at all in saving the planet or protecting plants which is what I would have expected. Instead, she just seems focused on punishing her former friends which, without a clearer picture of what's going on, just feels of character for her and badly written (to me) instead of villainous. What about Poison Ivy is making her listen to Alice? And give away Batwoman's identity?
