I'm reading the AV Club and enjoying all the riffs they're coming up with on Mick Rory, the World's Most Fucked-Up Kids' Camp Counselor and his vaguely threatening inspirational speeches.

LSSC: Season Two Episode Talk
Miss Dee replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in Late Show With Stephen Colbert
I have to admit, that was pretty sexy. -
I'm hoping more for a bromance triangle between Cold, Heatwave and Haircut, myself. Mick Rory is my absolute favourite character in the Arrowverse now, bar none, so most of my favorite moments are going to feature him. In this episode it was the side eye he gave to Vixen: "Yes, I know what a metaphor is. (beat) Don't tell the others." Aw Mick, ya big lug, you've got so much potential.

This episode was redeemed solely by Sleepy Hollow's Joe Corbin (and his lovely, lovely arms) as the defendant.

God, I hate how poorly this site works on cell phones. I can't edit the post above this one for love or money. Anyway, before it turned to shit on me, I was trying to say that it was only last episode Mick admitted he was having difficulties processing his feelings about Snart's death and Ray stepping into his place; he wants Ray to be more like Leonard and the the next moment not at all. Then the last remnant of his buddy had to be dismantled. This can't be comfortable for a guy whose main worry back in 2015 was that he wouldn't get to torch everything he wanted. Evolving as a person means being vulnerable and getting hurt, and I think he's afraid of it. On the other hand, two episodes he became zombified - pretty much a literal monster - and he wasn't worried about too much in that state, was he? So I think all of it happening together is reminding him how much it hurts to feel, how comfortable it was when he didn't feel anything, and he's convinced himself that he's better off being like he was before - a monster on a short leash. Much less complex that way. It's not going to work, obviously, and I suspect he'll have to come to terms with that with the help of Amaya and probably Ray as well before too long. I thought last episode they were hinting at a ship between Amaya and Nate, but now I'm wondering if they'll be able to resist the 25th anniversary of Beauty and the Beast and enact that trope with Mick and Amaya instead. Count me in as loving this season. It's the only show I'm trying to catch live right now.

TDS 3.0: Season Two Talk
Miss Dee replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in The Daily Show With Trevor Noah (2015-2022)
I loved it, loved how different it was. Hope they take more chances like this. -
So the Clintons are simultaneously stupid enough to do dumb shit like that, but clever enough to do all kinds of illegal stuff over the years and never have enough actual evidence to convict them despite all the attempts to do so over the years? That doesn't make sense as a theory. You (general you) can't change the personalities of the people involved to suit your accusation at the time.

Think about that a minute...is that logical? With loads of press outside, Bill and Lynch told them "Don't want any cameras, stay away!" and then proceeded to have a secret meeting with covert and possibly illegal stuff going on? Isn't that kind of like a seven year old doing something naughty in their bedroom so they shout out, "Don't come in here, Mom!"? In other words, why would they plan to talk about illegal things in that situation and then proceed to lampshade it by telling the press not to listen in?! It's asinine.

Donald John Trump: 2016 President-Elect
Miss Dee replied to Notwisconsin's topic in Current Events & Politics
Which letter is this? When was it released? -
That was the most heart-rending beginning two minutes committed to celluloid since Up. Damn, William. For now I think Toby is pushy but well-meaning. He'd be some people's cup of tea, but definitely not others. Kate has a beautiful voice. I wonder how Kevin would react if she pursued a singing career, especially if hers gains some traction while his star is falling. Randall is going to break. I'm dreading it for the character even as I look forward to the acting.

Holy crap, was this episode written by Denise The?! She wrote some of the best episodes of Person of Interest, which was the best sci-fi show on network TV (and possibly the best show period) for the five years it existed, and it just kept getting better every season. No wonder this episode rocked! She also wrote some of the darkest episodes of what was a pretty dark and apocalyptic show, so she's going to fit right in here. Gotham is damned lucky to have her, and so are we. I'm in this for the Mazouz - the closer he gets to an age appropriate for some serious Batmanning, and the more he starts to look the part, the more excited I get for the future - so naturally I loved this episode. However, for once I thought all the other elements of the show worked too. What existed between Penguin and Ed wasn't HoYay! at all. There was nothing subtextual about what I just saw. That was full-blown path-to-romance storytelling there. And for the record, I like the sound of "Nygmobblepot."

S10.E02: The Military Miniaturization
Miss Dee replied to TheOtherOne's topic in The Big Bang Theory [V]
It's like any other cool toy one might come across. No matter how often you've seen one, you get excited and have to play with it - commercial drone, new iPhone, military-grade retinal scanner, yada yada yada.... -
UO: I completely understand why show runners and networks "dumb down" shows. When I look at some of the asinine conclusions and assumptions I see on some forums, I'm amazed they don't "dumb down" things even further.

LSSC: Season Two Episode Talk
Miss Dee replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in Late Show With Stephen Colbert
So no comments on last night's show? I love Springsteen so all Springsteen, all the time was a great choice for me. It's not something I'd want to see often (and I really wish there'd been time for a song), but if the show wanted to focus on one "big" guest once or twice a year, it'd be a treat. -
This was the first episode of this show I've ever watched (thanks to the buzz I heard about it). I thought it was generally pleasant, but what sold me was the song. I kept thinking "Damn, that's a good version; I've got to pick that up somewhere." Color me surprised when it turned out to be the main character! If he sings on a regular basis, I'm definitely in! How essential is it for me to go back and watch the first season? I don't feel lost or anything.

LSSC: Season Two Episode Talk
Miss Dee replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in Late Show With Stephen Colbert
But Stephen, how do you *really* feel? LOL As someone who never watched The Colbert Report, I don't think I was prepared for this. Man, I hope he shows us more of that passion in future shows, whatever the topic. The running gag with all the guests lusting after the horse was funny. But it was an incredibly beautiful animal, no question. -
That's why I said "usually", @AndySmith. :) I feel you, because I'm a big fan of both as well. I've just noticed detractors of DS9 tend to cite its differences from TNG/VOY (depending on who you're talking to) as the main reason they don't think it's a "real" Trek series. Admittedly I might be oversensitive; DS9 is my favourite Trek.
-
@Danny Franks: If you enjoy Babylon Five, Battlestar Galactica, serialization, and the occasional "Don't Touch!" approach to the Reset Button, I really recommend that you give Deep Space Nine a try. Some points to consider: --The series takes place on a space station, so by definition they can't warp away from all their story lines - it uses serialization much more than the other series, and really much more than TV in general was doing at that time. It might not feel that way the first two seasons, but stick with it. You'll see. --The series has non-Starfleet regulars and recurring characters, so the "static" feeling you get from Starfleet personnel is definitely not the status quo. There are also a lot of alien characters. --If the sanitized feel of the Federation is something you find unpleasant...well, I can't get into spoilers, but let's just say there are certain themes and plotlines scattered throughout that will resonate with you. --The showrunner for Battlestar Galactica, Ron Moore, was a major writer for DS9 along with a cabal of like-minded people. DS9 is the Star Trek series that draws the most parallels and comparisons with BG. --Two words: Kira Nerys. Possibly the most dynamic and well-realized female character in all of Trek. --It's pretty much a given for most DS9 fans that each subsequent season is better than the one before it. There's some dissent about the seventh, but not much and on the whole fans consider the series to have more or less fulfilled the promise it showed. --The most rabid fans of The Next Generation and Voyager are usually the ones that rate DS9 as the least liked of all the Trek series. Therefore, if you're *not* a big fan of TNG or VOY...you see where I'm going with this. I can't promise you'll love it, but if you're intrigued by the pilot I encourage you to keep watching. I think at the end you'll have considered it a worthy use of your time.

I for one am pretty okay with Dinklage winning every award he can lay his hands on. In an ideal world he'd be one of Hollywood's top leading men, with all the financial and career opportunities that implies - but unless the world gets an awful lot more open-minded about what is considered beautiful and desirable in a person's looks, his height is always going to prevent people from seeing him that way. So if winning any award is going to lead him at least part ways down that path, I'm all for it.

Will Faces Amy In The Battle Of Friends's Thanksgiving Guests
Miss Dee replied to Primetimer's topic in Friends [V]
The Will Thanksgiving is sort of retroactively creepy because of Brangelina. Whoa Will, you really *were* determined to hurt Rachel Green, weren't you? -
Once And For All: Were Friends's Ross And Rachel On A Break?
Miss Dee replied to Primetimer's topic in Friends [V]
Ooh, great debate topic! For me, whether Ross technically cheated is besides the point; he stuck his dick in another woman less than 24 hours after being in a committed relationship. Thanks to @millennium and others, the argument can be made that he didn't do it out of selfish bastardry (which is what I had originally thought), but he still did it. Rachel would have been totally justified in telling him that if he was capable of doing that, then she didn't want anything to do with him. Of course she tried to argue that he'd cheated instead, which is where the ambiguity and debate comes in. If she'd said "Ross, I can't be with someone who could so casually make love so soon to another woman after being in a committed relationship," I would have been 100% on her side. -
Death In Paradise - General Discussion
Miss Dee replied to Meredith Quill's topic in Death In Paradise
I'm so bitter they wrote him out the way they did!! I don't care if it's a retcon or not; I'd love it if, towards the end of the last season, Camille comes back and finds out that it was all a fake out and Richard is actually undercover. The climax of which would happen on the island, of course.
