  1. As much as I love Soap Dish, the whole revelation about Montana Moorehead would never fly now due to our growing understanding of trans people. If they ever did a musical version (because it ain't gettin' remade in a time where soap operas are near extinction), they'd have to change Montana's character entirely.
  2. I'm not happy that The Devil's Disciple and The Scarlet Coat aren't being shown today. Those are personal faves. Still, we've got 1776. Love it despite New York constantly abstaining. There's a point where John Hancock almost hits the New York representative with a flyswatter, and every year I hope he goes through with it. Also, "Mama, Look Sharp" and "Molasses to rum to slaves" never fail to give me chills. Never seen Yankee Doodle Dandy. I might this year. Afterwards, we have a bunch of musicals! I think I'll watch Bye Bye Birdie; not a fan of The Music Man (West Side Story was robbed) but the one I really want to see, On the Town, is on a 2 AM and I'll be asleep by then.
  3. Yes, yes, yes. My Darling Clementine, The Searchers, and Stagecoach are on tonight. But The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Part 2 is on TCM Underground tonight!
  4. Tonight's movie theme is all about horseys, apparently. Never cared for horse movies, myself. Props for Westerns. That's what I think of movie horses.
  5. Tonight are a bunch of feel good movies. I'm guessing they're showing them to lighten the mood what with the pandemic and all that. Pretty good line up: Singing in the Rain - Five'll get ya ten Lina Lamont was a huge inspiration for Harley Quinn. Annie - Loved this as a kid. Still have a soft spot for it. Carol Burnett should have gotten a Best Supporting Actress nomination, IMO. Top Hat - Never saw it. Probably won't be able to see it because I've been up since 5 AM and I need my sleep. Seven Brides for Seven Brothers - And they give Beauty and the Beast crap for "being about Stockholm Syndrome". Those idiots have never seen SBfSB. If you hear someone one going on about the false Beauty and the Beast Stockholm Syndrome, kidnap this person, tie them to a chair, and force them to watch SBfSB. Then ask them about their thoughts on Stockholm Syndrome. Gigi - Never seen it.
  6. Oh, Clash of the Titans, you delightfully camp cult classic. The movie should be called "Watch Lawrence Olivier sleepwalk through a film, Maggie Smith being restrained actingwise, and the glory that is a half naked Harry Hamlin". One thing that irks me about this movie is that Perseus' mother gets cut out quite early. The whole myth of Perseus actually revolves around her. It's because of her that Perseus goes on his big journey. Then again, this isn't supposed to be a 100% retelling of the story of Perseus and I love it regardless. Also, the Medusa and Kraken are amazing. Could have done without the annoying owl, though.
  7. Dammit Handmaid's Tale. You did goofy shit that annoyed me last season but damned if that teaser didn't rope me back in for more.
  8. The Nanny is the best sitcom to have debuted in the 90s. Also, Just Shoot Me is very underrated. Also The Handmaid's Tale is camp in its purest form, or rather has become such. Now if there was just a stealthy way to keyword it on IMDB in its ironic form.
  9. Does everyone on Will and Grace count? I know it's a groundbreaking show and I feel like a traitor to gaykind for not liking it, but all four characters on that show are loathsome individuals. The Always Sunny Gang could take pointers from the Will and Grace crew.
  10. So this new Batwoman will be dark and psychotic? Cancel the show. Just cancel the show.
  11. Spider-Man (2002) is the best superhero movie. Yes, even better than the original Superman and Batman films. Even better than the Nolan Batman films. Better than the Avengers movies despite me loving Infinity War, Endgame, Black Panther, and The Guardians of the Galaxy films. I don't like how the Raimi Spider-Man movies are being ragged on of late. They're quite enjoyable and fun. Even Spider-Man 3 has its moments despite the miscasting of Topher Grace. I'm going further - Tobey Maguire is the best Spider-Man. Tom Holland is charming but I like Tobey Maguire more, maybe because there's no baggage of Tony Stark in them. The Raimi Parker has to do things himself without a multi billionaire godfather helping him. And he struggles just to make it in the big city. That's quite relatable. Also, Kirsten Dunst was perfect as MJ. I liked her bubblyness. I liked her charm. I don't know how unpopular it is here but I love Grease. Grease is a nice movie. I don't know why people hate on it.
  12. One thing occurred to me hours after watching this, though. Why no mention of Reagan's nomination of Sandra Day O'Connor at the end? She was pro-ERA and became the first woman on the Supreme Court but she didn't get a mention at the end. Kind of irks me.
  13. Ah hahahahahahahahaha! AH HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! AHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Schlafly ultimately lost! Reagan fucked her good! AH HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!! Still, she did damage something - the Republican Party. Now, it would be petty to lay all of the blame at her doorstep. There were other factors in the metamorphosis of the GOP. But she has had a sizable hand in that molding. I take back what I said. The ERA women should be on pedestals. Well, most of them. Betty Friedan can kiss my queer ass. I hate how Bella Abzug was done dirty. All this time I thought Reagan put the breaks on the ERA but it was Carter. I never knew that. With three states now ratifying the ERA, I have some hope. It will take a miracle for it to become an actual amendment, though. I guess all one can do is pray. And Cate Blanchette has that Best Actress Emmy locked down. I mean, she can take something like getting baking ware and peeling apples and make it look like art. I'm conflicted on who should get the Best Supporting Actress nominations. Rose Byrne, Margo Martindale, Tracy Ullman. I'm conflicted. All in all, this has been an amazing miniseries and I'm glad I watched. I knew next to nothing about the Women's Lib movement other than it being the butt of jokes in the 70s. But it wasn't a joke. It's something that matters. For men and women. And I will be praying for the ERA's success.
  14. Spaghetti Westerns are vastly overrated. Many of them aren't that good and I hate how gushed over they are, like Westerns weren't a thing before they came along. I don't mind the Terence Hill and Bud Spencer Spaghetti Westerns, though. Maybe it's because the two of them had such great chemistry together. Oh, and there's one starring "Little" Rita Pavone that's campy fun. But other than that, forget Spaghetti Westerns. Give me the 40s/50s Westerns any day. Hell, give me The Three Mesquiteers and Hopalong Cassidy anyday.
  15. Barbara Streisand can't hold a candle to Ethel Merman. In fact, Babs could never reach Merman's peak, if you ask me. More spankings would have solved so many problems.
  16. Well, Sarah Paulson finally gets to shine this episode. I loved how repulsed she acted toward the woman at the bar who revealed that she was for the ERA when just seconds before they were laughing and talking about their lives. Alice thought she was Phyllis' protege when it was Rosemary who became the ruthless one. Well, she always was ruthless but she's not hiding it anymore. Alice's breakdown/bonding with the ERA women was an amazing sequence. God, how many hours was she out that night? All the activities she did. Wasn't expecting a nun to be there on the ERA side. That surprised me. Also, I read somewhere that lavender balloons dropped from the ceiling when Freidan said she wasn't going to stand in the way of the sexual preference item. Why didn't they do that? Seeing the ERA women so jubilant, so assured in their victory at the end made me sad. All those buses of Evangelicals coming and Phyllis there to great them like Darth Freaking Vader. I know Alice is just a fictional character, but I hope she turns on Phyllis in the final episode. I'm dreading the final episode because we all know what's going to happen. But this isn't a story with a happy ending. This is history. And I'm going to watch anyway.
  17. I just want the replacement actress to be LGBT. They can be a lesbian or transgender, I don't care. And have them be from Canada so filming in Vancouver won't be too much of a problem.
  18. I told my mother that. Hardly a blip about As The World Turns. That was must see viewing in our house during the 80s. She was also rather annoyed that some shows like Dark Shadows and Search for Tomorrow weren't mentioned either. I did love the emphasis that soaps were shows made for women by women. I never considered that before. Makes me appreciate them more (hey, that rhymed). Women are more of a demographic than men yet show options are few and far between now. I hate that so many soaps are gone. Who cares for reality? It annoyed me with the whole "reality shows are just like the soaps" angle. It's fun do see fake fighting and opulence. Real fighting and opulence makes me want to hurt the people who came up with Real Housewives. And how the hell was Breaking Bad a soap opera? And why was Jon Hamm on? He wasn't in a soap opera!
  19. How is that the new Sailor Moon dub has not shown up on Toonami?
  20. I saw Captain Blood today. Loved it. I was impressed how things kept going at a good clip. There was nothing drawn out nor was there anything weighed down by any supernatural nonsense like a certain modern pirate film series along with a pirate captain that was dashing and good looking and not a Keith Richards knock off. Plus, the chemistry between Errol Flynn and Olivia De Havilland was magnetic right off the bat. Late tonight, there are going to be some of Burt Lancaster's swashbuckling films. To quote Headley Lamarr: "How could he pull off such stunts with such tiny feet?" Too bad I'm going to be in bed and will miss them 😞 By the by, what was Burt Lancaster's shoe size?
  21. MeTV's released it's Summer of Me schedule. We're getting Happy Days! Yay! And Mama's Family! Yay! We're also getting Laverne and Shirley. Boo! Bad enough Logo plows us up the tucus with that show for hours on end (it ain't camp, Logo) but now we got it on MeTV. https://metv.com/stories/happy-days-laverne-shirley-and-mamas-family-join-the-metv-schedule-this-summer I hope Happy Days sticks around. Ditto for Mama's Family on Sunday nights. No change in their drama schedule, meaning we're still getting the same Westerns during the day. What I wouldn't give for them to show The Untouchables and The Fugitive during the weekdays instead of at 3 in the morning Sunday nights.
  22. Yes!!! Pie in the puss! Suck, Schlafly! And it messed up her eye, too! Ha ha ha! And there are fractures happening the power dynamic. And then there's the dysfunctional Christmas family photo. Delicious. I find it telling that Phyllis thought what she was doing would net her political points with the Republicans and she'd be asked by them to run for congress. Yet she kept going, getting even in deeper with Lottie Beth Hobbs (who I found out died the same year as Schlafly did - 2016). I'm surprised how together Rosemary was in organizing a counterattack against the women's convention. Again, we see how fractured the women's movement was because of ego and stress. I did love Bella's take down of Phyllis' followers, though.
  23. I'm also a Betty lover. I thought January Jones did a good job with the character and loved her scenes with Kiernan Shipka. You could tell they had chemistry together. Also, I didn't mind Pete too much.
  24. I...don't like The Sopranos. Just the overall bleakness and edgyness gets to me and really affects my mental health in ways I just don't like. In fact, lots of HBO dramas give me that feeling.
