  1. Just read the NYT review of this and the writer made a great point about the Monterey setting being questionable. I was just in Monterey for Labor Day and granted I didn't see all of it, what I did see definitely was not as fabolous as what's depicted here lol. No shade to Monterey, it's cute, just saying. If anyone on the board lives/has lived there please chime in. So agree with this! I consume media for all sorts of reasons, relatability and escapism so that argument irks me as well.
  2. Yes! And Diana's voice overs were very well modulated and I know how much some of us in this board appreciate that lol. She said she wanted to re-enlist but couldn't because of her weight and you would only get a pension if you retire or maybe even a medical discharge(?). I did 5 years in the Navy but I'm not 100% sure. I also did alot of yo-yo dieting for weigh-ins so I know the struggle. The neice said her mom, Diana's sister, was helping out and her husband was able to work from home. Good for them. I liked that she always thanked everybody when they helped her as opposed to some of the vile behavior we've seen on this show by people who can barely move. I would be Baby Jane-ing the sh!$ out of some of these hosebeasts if I was their caregiver but Diana was polite and grateful.
  3. Someone up thread wrote that EJ said "f@$! Her" regarding Lisa Rinna on WWHL, it was bleeped out but I think she actually said "she's f#$#d" I didn't get the sense that EJ was upset with Lisa R, just acknowleding the blunder.
  4. When Christian was critiquing Tieler's look, it struck me how much he sounds like the Church Lady from SNL.
  5. Is she too old? I can't get a good read on how old Juicy is. She refers to Ricky Smiley as a father figure, and hangs around a bunch of youngins. Even the friends who have appeared with her outside of the cast seem youngish, and I got the impression that Juicy was younger than her sister (who actually looked younger than Juicy). When I first started watching the show I guessed she was well into her 40s, maybe pushing 50. Now I'm not so sure.
  6. Super late to the discussion. I kind of avoided this ep because I thought it might be too heavy handed and eyeroll inducing but I just finished watching it on demand and liked it more than I was expecting to. I actually appreciated the explanation by Lucy as to why she voted for Trump, especially questioning if they would have voted for Herman Cain or Ben Carson just because they're Black (capital B). Loved, loved, loved Pops telling Junior that the reason the more radical elements of Dr King's speeches and ideology aren't taught is to pacify us. I've been saying this forever so that got a big co-sign from me. I get why some folks are turned off when comedies do the "very special episodes" but the show is called Black-ish so I'm not sure what you're expecting. Even the iconic Cosby show had its moments.
  7. Loved this! Especially part 1, those little boys did the damn thang, special shout out to Little Ralph and Wood Harris. And that little Bobby! I bet as soon as he walked into the audition they were like, kid you got the part lol. So can we all agree that BET should just handle all the Black biopics from now on and a restraining order should be put out against Lifetime from doing so? I remember seeing an episode of Unsung Hollywood (or at least I think it was) featuring Lisa Nicole Carson and they showed her on the set of this and she was so excited for the gig. I'm happy for her that it was a smash and I hope it opens more doors for her. Yvette Nicole Brown (that's her below) who was actually signed to Mike Bivins back in the day playing his mom was cute.
  8. They got the year right, it was the look that was off. The girls were sporting "Like A Virgin" era Madonna gear. Vogue was more slicked back hair and suits.
  9. I gotta hand it to Kirsten, her voice overs had some life, good modulation. That's rare on this show. I couldn't stand her saying she would put her mom in the worst nursing home, bitch she raised your kids! Not to mention let you move back in, did everything for you, got you set up in an apartment, apparently on a whim after she didn't feel like driving back, ugh!
  10. There's something called Watch What Crappens?! I must listen to this lolololol.
  11. I don't know who pissed me off more, the pedophile or the wife! At least he's delusional enough to "come out" so people know to stay the hell away from both of them since she likes to point out little girls he might like smh.
  12. Aziz comes from a sketch comedy background so I had high expectations that he would be a more than capable host. I actually liked the dirty talk sketch but Melissa Villasenor is starting to come across as a one trick pony using that same voice and scrunched up facial expression. It did work in this sketch. The Five Stars bit gets 3.9 from me only for saying "San Junipero" is the best episode... umm that's gonna be a big nope! Everybody knows Season 3 was the weakest so far and Shut Up and Dance was clearly the standout episode. Now I sound like the cops in the La La Land sketch.
  13. It was Marissa who made the "bass in your voice" comment. Marissa is the biracial one and Kyle is the androgynous one lol. When someone tells another person to take that bass out of their voice, it basically means to calm down. Growing up, I would mostly hear it said from grown men to younger boys who were getting too full of themselves. It's really a (street) term meant for males as their voices tend to go deeper when their angry/asserting themselves, whereas women's voices tend to go higher in the same situations.
  14. Ah yes, Jax the good Midwestern boy next door ha! I think just about everyone on this show moved to California from somewhere else (and desperately trying to live up to what they think LA is about). Except for Scheana who I'm just guessing might be from OC because it seems like she grew up nearby and her mother comes back and forth a lot. I have to say as someone who was born in LA and grew up in SoCal, and whose mother is a native Angeleno, I find that many of the stereotypically "LA" types are actually not from there and a lot of the locals are hella cool. Then again my people are from South (Central) LA, Compton, etc. It's a whole other world from West Hollywood. I just chuckled at La La's little rant about every chick with boobs who isn't ugly having been on a private plane, because that's just LA....ummmm okay lol.
  15. A la "Teen Mom." I guess they're too cheap to spring for a professional announcer. That or they think its endearing to have the subjects narrate their own stories. Reminds me of being in school and getting called on to read. Some kids could breathe a little life into the material and others well...sounded like our fearless narrators here. Not to toot my own horn, but I fell into the former group lol.
  16. Overcorrected ha! Ain't that the truth. She has done a complete 180 from the Porsha we met in her first season. Had Peter asked off camera, he might have gotten somewhere with it. Cynthia has said before that he puts it down and I'm always hearing about women sleeping with their exes just to scratch that itch and scratch it with someone they're comfortable with so it wouldn't have been completely out of the realm of possibility lol.
  17. I caught it on Netflix not too long ago and it was really cute. And not in that cheesy, cloying way. Just a feel good film.
  18. Thanks for the Netflix recommendations guys. So I gotta check out The Crown and Hell or High Water ✔. Anybody on Twitter should check out the #HiddenFences hashtag, it's hilarious. SYTYCD alert! La La Land director just thanked Mandy Moore for her choreography.
  19. Winona Ryder was nominated? I thought she was terrible. Eleven gave the most standout performance in that series by far (and Barb).
  20. Right?! I thought my ears were deceiving me but apprently whoever does my closed captioning also heard 28 years. Maybe he met his husband at the nursery in the hospital when they were both born lol.
  21. I had to Google Leslie Abramson to see if she was still alive because it's such a glaring omission that she wasn't interviewed. She was one of those larger than life figures from the trial with the aggressive style and wild mane of curls. You'd think they'd at least say we reached out but she declined to be interviewed. Maybe I missed that. The prosecutor, conversely, provided excellent commentary and I don't remember her at all from back then.
  22. Yes! First thought that popped in my head when I saw that was check the collar. When I was a kid we had a neighbor dog who would hop the fence to come play with our dogs and even come in our house sometimes, so I kind of get that, but she's probably super lonely. Which is sad considering that she probably joined to feel more connected in the first place. Aaron made an interesting point about the "church" needing to change its policy on disconnection. I wouldn't be surprised if Miscaviage is overthrown at some point and they relax some of these policies in an effort to grow their numbers. Surprised to see a Black lady as their spokesperson. I was like, "aww damn, come on sista!" Lol.
  23. Kyle saying she grew up on Carnie's music smh...not sure what the criteria is for "grew up on" but I'm pretty sure she was an adult with a kid when that first Wilson Phillips album dropped lol.
  24. Oh God nose balls. She really thought she was special and edgy with that piercing. She's also the "one" (half of them probably do) with an ex-girlfriend. That might've meant something the 1st couple seasons but now, come on. You're bisexual with a nose ring, pick a number and get in line. Liz, Liz, Liz...how mortified must she be tonight. If that is being edited in, those producers are shady af lol.
