  1. Lolz...I was really trying to think of one you missed but no, I think you have them all covered. Da' gives good diary imho. Really wished she told Frank to sit down when he started negotiating with her during HoH. She could've won the whole thing on her own. But I guess this way she still gets the nominees she wanted without "blood on her hands" and she can play next week.
  2. Oh yeah! Thanks :) They must not have been able to get the licensing for GoT's theme though. I don't know what music that was.
  3. Ha! Totally just spotted that. You guys are so my people.
  4. Erykah Badu is a pretty popular R&B/neo-soul singer, (I've seen her in concert). She's been around for about 20 years and she's known for wearing massive headwraps which the lady in the audience was wearing. I actually laughed at that joke. But the rest of his set was painful and I noticed he stepped up the use of mf'er in front of the black crowd which just *eyeroll*.
  5. So now we need the bizarro version where people from "primitive" cultures (for lack of a better word) have to survive in the modern world. They could be given entry level office jobs, apartments, have to learn to drive a car, etc., and see how long before they tap out.
  6. So much this. Dude's a cornball. I'm a Navy vet and worked with a lot of Marines and there's a lot of Alex's in the ranks lol. It's hard to put my finger on, but he just seems like every military, frat, athlete bro stereotype all wrapped up in a tight little package. Sorry if anyone's pointed this out before but Derek = swarthy Jim from The Office.
  7. It cannot be stated how much I love me some Jesse Williams. How are you that conscious, that "woke" as the kids call it and that fine? Loved the shout out to black women. And his wife got some meat on her bones, wears her hair natural and isn't some vapid arm candy. Lucky woman. Le swoon.
  8. I just saw him in concert last Monday and he is just...yessss.
  9. While I don't find Black Cindy to be particularly likable, I do think Adrienne C. Moore is one of the stronger actresses on the show. As a black woman, I tend to be a harsh critic of black female characterizations in the media and I find her to be the most authentic of the black girl crew with Taystee being 2nd. The rest...hell to the naw, especially Poussey who veered wildly between hip hop/hood chick and worldly, educated military brat. Agree with the posters who think Uzo Aduba is overrated. Can't stand Watson and judging by her (annoying) accent, should she be with the Latinas? I like Piper fine enough and her and Alex have good chemistry. Laverne Cox - A poster up thread said it better about the terrible affect she uses. She went from being a NY firefighter to Scarlett O'Hara? Terrible actress. I'm guessing there's slim pickings for actual TG women to play the part. Could they have just done a Jeffery Tambor a la "Transparent" and gotten a competent male actor or even Felicity Huffman a la "TransAmerica?" Or would too much of a stink have been raised over representation and diversity in casting? Speaking of affects, I'm not sure if Lori Petty is going for Southern or just a straight up blaccent, but it works for me. She should think about having a side hustle being a dialect coach for non-black (and some black) actors who have to sound like they're from the hood.
  10. Right there with you. Didn't care for the character or the actress who I've disliked since that minstrel show of a performance she gave in "The Babysitter" with Jonah Hill.
  11. "Next time I see you, you smell like a goddam daisy or you're not gonna like what happens next." Damn I wish I could say that to people. Especially a certain coworker who's always leaving her signature scent in the women's restroom *shudder*.
  12. Attorney: "This is not a happy day for anyone." Cut to Fred Goldman "We're thrilled..." Ha! Editors: 1 OJ: 0
  13. Not justifying anything. I'm from LA, I was 12 when it happened and had family members who were negatively impacted by lack of access to stores, getting to and from work and school, etc. My little cousins were toddlers and were terrified by what was going on around them. My aunts and uncle lived through the riots in '65 and '92. My issue is when people "don't understand" why these things happen. You stated in your post that you do, so we agree on that.
  14. I remember seeing him on "Where are They Now" on OWN not too long ago and he was pretty candid. He's married with kids and seems happy. I was surprised he didn't participate in this.
  15. White folks (and some POC) who riot when their team wins a championship, or white students who riot at a pumpkin festival, or white Europeans who riot over football (soccer), completely understandable. Black people taking to the streets in anger when members of our communities, some of which are children, are beaten and killed, unarmed and on tape while the perpetrators are set free...hmmm just don't get it <insert sarcasm>. Not saying that the previous poster excuses the aforementioned behavior, I just find it interesting when these types of racial unrests are criticized while others are not, at least not in the same manner. And I get that this discussion is related to the events in this documentary, its just a pet peeve of mine. BTW I actually would've given the Goldman family a pass if they had "set fire to the rain" after that farce of a trial and verdict. But that's just me. End rant.
