  1. @Carrie Ann: I've just "bookmarked" that Costa Rican Tilapia recipe. It looks wonderful and I've always got tilapia fillets in the freezer (thanks to Wegmans bags of individually wrapped/frozen tilapia). Another simple fish recipe is one of Ina's: Herb Roasted Fish in which you place each fillet of fish (again, I use tilapia) on a section of parchment paper, drizzle some olive oil and fresh lemon juice, add some ceregnola olives, and then a sprig of fresh thyme but I sprinkle dried thyme if I don't have fresh- it's almost as good ;>) and you bake for about 15-18 minutes. We really like it (I think Ina uses cod in her recipe). Great suggestion of mac and cheese, Lura! And the leftovers are soooo easy to heat up. I like Ina's Mac and Cheese but I must confess there are lazy days when I've grabbed one of those boxes, added the required ingredients (only half the cheese packet), & then tossed in some garlic powder, paprika, diced up good cheddar, added a bit of fresh ground parmesan, and then some green chilies.
  2. I missed a few episodes (last one I saw he went for a walk with the girl who kept asking him out...got tired of that scene where she kept going on and on and on about being overweight and Louie didn't understand this and he didn't "get" that, etc., etc.). So, watching this past Monday night, I was totally lost. But there is the prospect of certain scenes that keeps me hanging in there (e.g., anything that Charles Grodin's character is involved in) so I'll be back this coming Monday evening. I like the show. I especially like the New Yorkness of the show most of all.
  3. Thanks for the heads-up...I'm going to check it out. Last night we needed a fast dinner and I was thrilled to find one of those saute bag dinners of Ina's in the freezer. That's what I use them for - those last minute, throw together meals when I don't have the time or energy to get creative. But I'll wait until I have a coupon or they're on sale :>)
  4. How about a frittata with some mushrooms, cheeses, and broccoli florets? Take it over to their house, your dad can heat it up. Also take along a big bowl filled with baby spinach & other types of greens, sliced red onions, and whatever else they like but isn't juicy so the bowl can stay in the fridge a few days as they take from it what they want (and can toss some little cherry tomatoes into their individual salad bowls/plates) along with either your homemade dressing or a bottled dressing. If you're still not energetic by the time they need food brought over, take a big Stouffer's frozen casserole (we like the escalloped chicken & noodles) and a bag of mixed salad, little box of cherry tomatoes and bottled dressing. And some kind of frozen treat to celebrate your mom's getting through all this unfun stuff of life!
  5. @ 3pwood: - Here's that wonderful salad's recipe. Most times I don't bother with the shallots - it doesn't need them. That vinaigrette is so delicious I could drink it! I bet it would be great with slivered basil leaves. http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/ina-garten/arugula-watermelon-and-feta-salad-recipe.html
  6. Thanks, 3pwood - love that! I also don't like all that Victorian era decor (especially light maroon wallpaper). There are a very few B&B's I'd return to (they don't have that old-fashioned look to them and they're just roomier and more user-friendly ;>) Thanks y'all for the tips re: the milder vanilla yogurt. I'm definitely going to buy them. Re assigned dining on cruises: The first cruise we went on (Holland America to Alaska) we didn't do that so we just showed up at a set time each evening (we'd already decided on our hour) and we could either have our own table or share with others. Our second cruise we did the assigned table and liked it since we didn't have to keep introducing ourselves every night to new dining companions (we also began to use the buffets for breakfast and lunch to avoid the constant introductions).
  7. I doubt she even has a wish list. If she wants something, she gets it (e.g., apt.in Paris, The Barn, gorgeous gardens, great food, 2 million shents, etc ;>) While we were staying at a B&B in Santa Barbara last week, we had homemade granola (yum) and a wonderful mild vanilla yogurt as part of our breakfast. I happened to see a large dark blue and white container as I walked past the kitchen serving area--would that be Stoney-something yogurt? The vanilla wasn't overpowering/too sweet, as it is with other vanilla yogurts I've tried over the years. Speaking of B&B's, I've informed Mr. P914 that I'm weary of them...most of them have pedestal sinks in tiny bathrooms so you can't spread out your "stuff"...plus, since I'm not a morning person (and a bit shy), it's hard for me to be chitchatty with other guests around the dining room table early in the morning.
  8. Years ago she was much nicer, kinder, more hospitable to her guests. In the last few years she's become such a nag that I'm surprised she has any friends left (or any who'd want to appear on her show and risk being humiliated).
  9. What I don't "get" is how Lester became so creative (in an evil way). His brother was cruel (in the first episode?) telling him he was a loser but from what we saw early on in this series, Lester really wasn't very bright...actually, he was quite dopey. Now he's coming across as a very clever fellow, actually an OTT clever guy (e.g., hospital switch). I've felt all along that they purposely chose the name Malvo because of that evil creep. It's a name that connotes true evil to those of us who were looking over our shoulders back in the day.
  10. @larapu2000: This just cracked me up! Thanks for the guffaw :>) I grew up in a home with a gas stove/oven. Then, as I moved around the east coast I ended up with electric stoves/ovens and missed cooking/baking with gas. In our last two houses we've had gas stoves with the gray thingamajigs (what the pot sits on?) and any little drop of water creates a stain. I was advised to polish the gray things with chrome polish (which I keep forgetting to do). Next house I hope will be electric and I'll get to have that smooth surface that's easy to clean (and keep clean, I hope!)
  11. And then, Jerry decided to get up and find a phone. Loved it when George desperately grabbed him, not wanting to be left alone with Elaine's father. That scene in the lobby is one of my favorites.
  12. This was great - thanks for the video! I loved Jerry Stiller as George's father (and Estelle as his mom, of course!)
  13. I've noticed that right now there are over 3,200 "views" of this Small Talk topic but not much posting. And of course, over at our dear TWOP, only a few are posting these last sad days of its existence. It makes me wonder if the 3,200+ "viewers" stopping by and checking us out here just keep on going because...well, why? I'd love to see this Small Talk topic (and get rid of the Don't Tell Jeffrey because it pulls me back into the land of BC or start a new one) possibly turned into some type of friendly chat topic where we, who have enjoyed Ina Garten & cooking, growing herbs, having fun cooking, can share new recipes we've just discovered that are keepers, give each other tips when one of us is having a brunch/dinner/simple supper for friends, and needs some suggestions for what to serve, flowers to put on the table, wine to pour, etc. And, most importantly, be welcoming to newcomers. I've always enjoyed the conversations we've had over at TWOP and don't want everyone (who has hung in there!) to disappear on 5/31...know what I mean? And it would be fun to reel in some of these many "viewers". I was so happy when we were given the link to previously.tv by the TWOP moderators and have really enjoyed being here. Previously.tv moderators, fellow posters...what do you think?
  14. I love the scene in which George and Jerry get to Mr. Benes's hotel lobby before Elaine and uncomfortably try to make small talk with her father.
  15. Exactly! Possibly he isn't thinking along these lines because he's in a high stress situation, trying to keep himself glued together (and his web of lies straight in his noggin) because going to a hospital elsewhere with some type of creative excuse would normally be the savvy thing to do. I still find it hard to believe that the ER folks didn't check him out thoroughly, including removing his shirt, checking his heart, blood pressure, etc. IMO it would be very difficult to hide that wound on his hand in real life.
  16. Seeing TR on old episodes of BC is like hearing fingernails scratching a blackboard. His snippy comments are inane and irritating. One thing he does have in common with Dwyer is both are really attractive. Dwyer has a kindness in her smile and she & Ina seem to have a mutual admiration thing going. I like that.
  17. One of my favorite George moments is when he begs Jerry to tell him about Jerry's sexual adventure with a woman. George is holding a plastic squeeze bottle of ketchup and as soon as Jerry begins whispering what he & she did, the ketchup goes flying out of the squeeze bottle. Cracks me up every time.
  18. Hmmm...I always enjoyed watching this episode and think Dwyer's cute and sweet (and I love her name ;>) The times I've seen Dwyer and her husband on the show, they came across as friendly, nice folks (ok, who knows, maybe offscreen they're arrogant snobs!) I'm trying to think of any episode that I can't stand watching...maybe the meal sent to the medical school student in NYC...or when Ina's making something and pouring lots of booze and raisins into the mix (always makes me gag). Hey, I loved that fruit salad Dwyer made - love fruit salads anyway and the more beautiful/creative, the better.
  19. I don't recall any mention of Rao's during her al fresco spaghetti & meatballs dinner for Stephen ("dinner for my boss") but I do remember her trip to Rao's last year to learn how to make their famous lemon chicken (I tried to make it several years ago when I checked out their cookbook from the library...it wasn't all that fabulous IMO...maybe it has to be made in their kitchen?).
  20. I'd like to think that I'd at least pick up the phone and call the police after I saw a co-worker being dragged (by his necktie) past my cubicle. The unknown dragger wouldn't have known who called the cops. Maybe the draggee was loathed by his associates and they just didn't care enough to do anything to help him. Can't wait for the next episode (just saw a promo on FX in which Malvo is being questioned and is talking like Lester).
  21. Loved the garbage workers making such a racket - so true! and invading Louie's bedroom was a special touch, especially when they jumped on his bed.
  22. Yes - there really is a site and that's what it's called (I wasn't sure if I could post a link here ;>). Now those gals could probably put on a fun cooking show!
  23. Just watching these few snippets IMO makes SNL of the past decade look pathetic--but especially now.
  24. @Lura you might like a site called Mennonite Girls Can Cook.
  25. I thought Nancy Marchand, who played Frasier's mother, was brilliant. When she coldly informed Diane that she'd kill her "if you marry my son", I could almost believe her.
