  1. Hah! Now I'm trying to remember if we saw Diane's neck in that movie with Jack Nicholson and that gorgeous house on the beach (I only watch the reruns for a couple of scenes: kitchen scenes cause I love that kitchen, and the incredible sobbing/typing scene...so hilarious!)
  2. Baked sweet potato fluffed with a pat of butter; then, topped with shredded rotisserie chicken, Famous Dave's bbq sauce, sour cream, and fresh chives from my deck garden.
  3. For some reason, I woke up at 5 AM today and could've watched the whole shebang but I'm so weary of Harry and Meghan (no fault of theirs, I'm sure--just the crazy OTT media) that I couldn't face it & went back to sleep. So I've watched snippets on CNN this afternoon and that was enough for me. Cannot believe that Episcopal Bishop gave a "sermon". Who needs a daggone sermon at a happy event like a wedding when there's so much else to appreciate (the music, that wonderful English boys & men's choir, the beauty of that chapel, etc)? Noticed that Catherine didn't look too happy during the ceremony (maybe because she had to sit next to The Rottweiler?) I normally like rainy days but not a whole week of rain (and many times a deluge, just when I'm driving in dicey heavy traffic sections). Tomorrow the sun is supposed to come out so maybe this midAtlantic section of the country can dry out (cause the trees are beginning to fall over due to soggy ground).
  4. Good God almighty, yeah...what the heck is going on in the Northeast? I'm originally from the mid Hudson Valley and the photos I'm seeing at a website for the HV are just shocking. The only serious weather we had when I was growing up were the blizzards. But a few nights ago we went to the basement (metro DC area) after warnings to do so on local TV. Something strange is going on with our weather. Not good, at all.
  5. Summer Spaghetti which we haven't had in a long time.
  6. "...problems with jumping''. Well, it's not just the Knierems. It's all the pairs skaters and it's always bugged me that pairs have to include the type of jumps that singles do while they're also training/performing such difficult lifts and throws (and perfecting other beautiful pairs moves such as the death spiral, and the tricky coordinated spins). That's a lot and pairs skaters just don't get the recognition that singles skaters get even if they win gold (well, maybe in Russia they do). Ok...just venting here. Anyway, I hope Aljona can help them with those pesky jumps because they are beautiful skaters. Wonder if Aljona is still pinching herself, saying "I really did win the Olympic gold!"
  7. Why did I think they were going to retire and start a family?
  8. Geez...what a sick puppy. For some reason, although I know very little about her, I'm not surprised (after observing her in the K&C after Zagitova's winning the gold).
  9. Re: ^^^^ I'm so happy for Brian Orser, being such a successful coach of such great skaters. His two Olympic experiences had to have cut deeply (esp losing to Scott Hamilton, a good skater but no artist on ice).
  10. Looks like a BC Marathon tomorrow morning (Friday 5/11). I looked up Surprise Surprise and that's the episode where she serves pastitsio in the garden, along with that wonderful watermelon/arugula salad that I love.
  11. Actually, I'm leery of going to see this movie based on the multiple previews I've seen. What a great cast, though. Where the heck are the scripts for serious, thoughtful films using actors like these?
  12. Go Team Orser!! This is going to be interesting to see if EM is transformed by her new coaching team. Re: Chock & Bates? IMO they first need to get Evan to quit bending at the waist (everyone knows he's a lot taller than his partner so he just needs to show off his good posture). Then, do something about Chock's wimpy hair that smacks around her head while skating. I give them a year in Montreal.
  13. Thanks, mansonlamps. Your old family recipe is about the same as the one I found online back in '96 (it's called Central European Chicken Paprikash) except mine calls for a can of tomatoes (probably from a different part of Central Europe, right?) I gave the recipe to a friend who made it for dinner tonight and they loved it. I'm going to try spaetzle next time and will look for it at Aldi's. I guess that was CFF's Great Strides you walked in (I used to work for CF years ago--it's a very good cause, raising funds to fight a terrible disease). That chicken salad at Panera's sounds good.
  14. Aww, gee. I goofed up and immediately thought this was Alina (who I want to leave Eteri so badly, after that cold reaction to Alina's gold medal at the O's). Well, Evgenia needs a break from Cruella too. Guess wishful thinking caught up with me.
  15. Thanks for the tip re: spaetzle--love spaetzle! If it's not a secret, please post your family recipe. I'm always looking for additions and/or improvements :>)
  16. Hmmm...good time to make a getaway!
  17. Eastern European Chicken Paprikash (from a recipe I found back in the early days of online recipes...c.1996!!) over thin spaghetti rather than egg noodles (had to use up all those half filled boxes of pasta).
  18. I almost don't care who this child hires as her future coach. As long as she leaves that cold creature, who couldn't muster up a smile that one of her students had just won the O gold meal, that's all I care about. Hope she makes the correct choice in a new coach (and hope it's Brian--such a kind, good man).
  19. Mindthinkr: So, what time's dinner? I love clams: steamed, fried, even raw with a dollop of cocktail sauce and a squirt of lemon juice.
  20. I made a new recipe: Korean Ground Beef & Rice, but I used vermicelli and made some extra sauce. Think it's a keeper.
  21. Hoo boy...I sure don't want to see tights on the men. I remember when Brian Boitano first wore tights (maybe at his first pro competition?). It was not a pretty sight, IMO. A lot of male skaters are well muscled and have big rear ends like Brian. Maybe the thin men could get away with it. I wouldn't mind women wearing tights, especially pairs skaters. Some of those lifts, where their legs are far apart, would look better if they wore tights (remember Natalia M in 1992 for her LP? she wore pale lavender tights that matched her dress).
  22. Amen! I watched a rerun the other night in which a young couple bought a contemporary house (I think they called it the cargo house? cause it looked like a cargo ship?). Anyway...the exterior, IMO, was ruined by a hideous, huge, stained wood front porch that didn't go with the contemporary design at all. And they painted the house a bilious green + added shutters--I'm sorry but I don't care for shutters on anything but a colonial style house (American, Mediterranean or Caribbean)...and they need to be working shutters, not flat-on-the-wall faux shutters (I'm getting real nitpicky this morning, sorry!) Most of the exteriors that the Gaines do are pretty good but this one wasn't. I've never lived in Texas so maybe they sit outside in late fall/early winter? Give me my AC, though. And one other thing: somewhere in these posts, someone mentioned how the Gaines leave so many windows bare. Now I notice that all the time. Have they ever done drapes or Roman shades? Maybe I didn't notice the shades. I just started watching FU (love that abbreviation but it always startles me) recently so I'm catching up on the reruns.
  23. Yay for Ina! although I sure do miss the original Barefoot Contessa show with the flower arrangement lessons & table setting tips, etc. I just happened to catch her show this morning (at 9 AM...sheesh! no wonder I usually miss it) She was preparing food for Lidie's housewarming party. I wish they'd show reruns of the BC, starting from the first episode (like maybe on the Cooking Channel?)
  24. I've ordered pad thai twice (at two different Thai restaurants--one was Duangrats which has a great rep in No. VA) and didn't like it because it had a sweet, margarine-like flavor. Don't know what they put in pad thai to create that not so good flavor. So whenever I'm in a Thai restaurant I steer clear of pad thai and order other things on the menu--I really like Thai food (love the mussels, and the calamari with a Thai dip is great).
  25. Tonight I made chicken soup and a big salad which was perfect for a rainy evening (and used up some veggies in the crisper and leftover chicken breasts).
