Honestly, I really do think the crying after the LP or FD had become THE thing to do. At the O's last February, it had become so annoying because almost every female skater was bawling like a baby, taking forever to get up off the ice & take her bows so that the next skater could get on the ice. Even Dick Button asked, "What's with all the crying?". I noticed at Nationals, the crying has cut way back, so some Powers That Be must've laid down the law, thank goodness.

Is there still time for me to race over? Oh that sounds so delicious. I grilled swordfish steaks on an indoor grill for dinner--so now I've got scented candles burning in the kitchen & great room. Fish need to be grilled outdoors (but I require slightly balmier weather for that). Maybe I'll make crabcakes & French fries tomorrow!!

"when properly executed" being the key phrase here! That rarely happens. Just thinking back on all the years the Kneirems have competed at Senior level, I can see Scimeca's sad face, a sign of nerves and/or a sign of having just screwed up. At the Olympics, after the pairs event, they talked about starting a family and I was overjoyed, thinking it was retirement from competitive skating time.

This is Hubbell & Donahue. They don't like it when other teams get better scores. Nasty looks, & very obvious outrage is apparent on their faces. A not so charming team if they're not winning.

Cain & Leduc. I really liked their LP. Great side by side jumps, smoothly going through their program, very calm. I felt calm watching them (& that says a lot for someone who finds pairs very scary). Glad they're our pairs champs going to Worlds!
-
This was pretty bad, even for the Kneirems. I've always found their programs to be worrisome (never knew which one would screw up a side by side jump).

Hey hey hey...did you see the new Jason Brown? No ponytail. His SP is so stylish. No quad. Wish he could get one cause the rest of his skating is stellar. Back to the SP...

I didn't really notice it that much until my sister said she stopped buying Thomas's and switched to Bayer or Baer? She said they were less doughy. They're ok but they're already cut and I like to pull the muffin apart after poking it all around with a fork (gets those nooks & crannies realllll good!) So I do that and pull out some of the breading in Thomas's - helps a little.

Just keep your remote w/in grabbing distance and hit mute. That's what I'm going to do. I must preserve my sanity!! ;>)

@ChicksDigScars: Yup, yup, yup, and yup! And also, may I join the folks who feel like a sh*thead for not being in love with the kiddie parade? I'm so glad for this forum so I know I'm not crazy or the only one who is bothered by what's going on in figure skating. And ice dance? I've loved it since the days of the Ponomorenkos ('84 bronze O; '88 silver O and '92 Olympic champions--my favorite ice dancers of all time). But this OTT "smoldering" style of H/D seems to put the focus more on them as opposed to their skating (maybe I'm not explaining this well...that sounded odd). Hope next season the CD will be German folk music--lots of oompah band ;>) That was so hilarious (and sure helped lots of us Mariah fans after such a disappointment). Raf can be a real grumblestiltskin but Mariah seems to know how to get him to lose his bad mood.

Hmmm, I just had crumpets for breakfast. I used to love them and TJ's is the only place I've seen them. Well, even though I toasted them twice, I thought they were a bit doughy. Won't be buying them again. I've noticed that English muffins, even good ol' Thomas's, are kind of doughy now.

I plan to have the remote close by today & tonight as I watch pairs & the FD. Don't want to implode as Terry, et al, go on & on re: our new ladies champion. Sheesh, last night when Alyssa came off the ice after her LP and was actually keening, and no one shut off the wretched audio at the K&C even though the next skater was on the ice, I began to ponder my future as a skate fan.
-
Is it me or does anyone else feel a bit deflated re: the ladies outcome?

I've always liked Ashley Wagner and I haven't seen the side of her that her critics talk about. I've just seen someone who said it was time to "go big or go home" and she took off for California to train with Rafael (which turned out to be a very good decision). There was also a good interview on TSL in which she showed her fun personality (self-deprecating and all). We all have our good sides and not so good sides, I guess. I didn't know she told USFA that GG needed help. This is a tough sport mentally as well as physically. I hope she has retired and can find work as a commentator.
-
GG didn't do herself any favors making fun of the way an Asian skater talked. She was also not pleasant to Ashley Wagner back in 2013 when Ashley's LP beat Gracie's (it was shown on TV that night). So you can't put blame onto NBC/USFSA for the activation of unkind posters.

OK... Nothing exciting. I made chili. Had mine with thin spaghetti. Hah! I just heard Mr. P914 tapping the chili container (not spicy/chili enough, y'know). Well, I sure need some inspiration for future meals. Maybe if it warms up a tad, we can grill some swordfish. If it's not going to snow...go away icy winds😣

I said, after that Eteri horror show in the K&C, after Alina was declared the Olympic champion, that the poor kid needs to move to the US. And skate for the US. We'll take care of her & she'll experience real appreciation probably for the first time. And no nastiness re: her family's ethnicity. C'mon Alina. Wake up! You deserve better. The poor kid 😔

I'm dumbfounded reading this. Who the h*ll is she to be handing out those hats to skaters? Someone with USFSA should've nipped that in the bud after the first skaters were handed the hats. I sure do hope the truth eventually comes out about Coughlin. Granted, I have no inside information. But we do know that 3 skaters came forward (two of them underage). Sounds like the other side (the anti-Coughlins) are just as evil as the pro-Coughlins, wishing bad luck and injuries to those who wore the hats. What kind of people are these pro's & anti's, wishing harm to innocent skaters? As we've discussed in the past re: where the word "fan" comes from (fanatic), these folks sure are OTT fanatic. It's sick. Nevertheless, I'm enjoying Nationals so far (on NBCSN). Watched pairs SP and Ladies SP. I was pulling once again for Stellato/Bartholomay and hope they can somehow get on the podium tomorrow. I like their style, music selections, and he's a really good pairs partner. And I admire Deanna for taking on the most dangerous discipline in figure skating at, I think, age 32? They're just special to me.

I'm glad Bradie won the SP & hope she also surpasses Liu in the LP. Alyssa just looked juniorish compared w/ Bradie, Mariah & Amber despite landing that triple axel. Looking forward to the LP tomorrow night!

I missed what was said about Coughlin at the start of pairs as I was on the phone. Wow...so far our pairs teams aren't looking so good.
-
Oh yes, definitely it's going on. I remember Kristi Yamaguchi talking about protecting her skates at all times at competitions (and this was back in the 80's/early 90's). Some skaters had their skates damaged (enough so they couldn't compete). And as for death threats, Ashley Wagner received her share from the Gracie Gold fans back when her LP allowed her to beat GG at Nationals (2013 I believe).
-
We've got some real sick puppies out amongst us these days. I'll be watching Nationals and hope there won't be much talk about Coughlin (we know how TV folks can go on and on ad nauseum about "tragedies").
-
This makes me mad--that TSL is now off the internet and Dave won't be at Nationals. Who the heck are these cretins, sending death threats to Dave , Christine, etc., + the accusers? Is there any way to out these death threaters? They need to be outed.

I was diagnosed several years ago with mild sleep apnea (could only get about 3 hours sleep at the sleep center as I cannot sleep on my back!). Tried several masks and finally gave up on it. Then this past fall I decided to try one more thing - the dental device. I went to an oral surgeon so that Medicare would cover the cost (only had to pay about $175 thanks to Medicare and our secondary). Well...when I picked up the device and brought it home, I found it was awful to wear as it felt huge in my mouth. I think I'm just going to have to suffer a bit each night (waking up to go to the bathroom several times) because the mask and the dental device really are bothersome and and I can't even get to sleep in the first place.

I went to TJ's on Saturday & bought my usual favorite things + the chocolate cupcakes with buttercream frosting. Haven't had them in a while & forgot how good they are. Plus, they're gluten free so I can take them to some gatherings where there are friends who need GF foods.
