I remember my Mom hushing all of us kids when Perry Mason was on. She would say it was the only good show for adults back in the day. She did watch As the World Turns during the day.

Carlin and Evan: But Mostly Carlin!
BetyBee replied to PrincessPurrsALot's topic in Bringing Up Bates
I haven't yet watched Carlin's latest video, but I did watch Lawson's video of getting a haircut and going to take pics with Tiffany to show off their sonogram. His haircut made him look like an Evan clone! IMO, anyway. He and Carlin are a lot alike in that neither one can ever stop talking! -
I watched most of my cartoons with my younger brother. We also watched Tarzan and some horror type movies like THEM!, a movie about giant ants attacking. As he got older, he was interested in shows like Combat, which held little interest for me. I guess I'm giving away my age! My husband and I recently watched all of Rockford and Columbo and now we're watching Dragnet and My Favorite Martian on Tubi! We watch other more current stuff too, but that's usually first. These days, I'm helping my brother find a new place to retire to, after our Mom passed away. Such is life!

I know I'm too late for Anduin's post, but I keep a note of what to bring on trips in the Notes app on my phone. I mostly visit my grandkids, so the list changes according to the weather, but I always have chargers and medicine on my list. I'd be lost if I couldn't charge my devices or take my meds. Having a list helps! Does anyone else worry about posters stop posting? I'm really concerned about a friend I've made here who hasn't posted in a few days. It's funny. We learn a lot about other posters, but we don't really know important info like their names! Anyway, she's in my thoughts and I really hope all is well.

I used to love coming home from work and checking the answering machine. I guess I loved answering machines! Even now, sometimes when I come home, I feel like I need to do something. Maybe I should set up a camera and I could review what my cat has been doing while I'm gone!

Life was better when we didn't get spam calls on our cell phones. I had my last landline back around 2003 to maybe 2005 (?). We had just moved back to IL and we got a number that had belonged to a deadbeat. I got calls all day every day, for him. I started to recognize the voices of debt collectors who called frequently. I would tell them that I already told them it was a new number for me and I didn't know the guy. They'd lie and say they they'd never called before. Then they'd ask how they could get in touch with the guy I just said I didn't know! It made me furious! Somewhere around there I got my first cell phone and gave up the landline. I had a sweet reprieve from dunning phone calls for strangers. Now I don't have a landline, but the do not call registry is a thing of the past. At least there are call screening apps.

It's early. The house is quiet. I'm enjoying my coffee and watching the very pink sunrise. Sometimes life is just so good! 😸

I may have to make the same choice. These are plants I rescued from our plant company at work, plants that they were going to throw away, and I've been retired for 5 years! If Leo keeps destroying them, he may make that choice for me!

Our new to us cat (he's 4.5 and we've had him 2 months) just knocked down and broke a planter pot with a trailing philodendron that I've had for years. I had to repot it. I hope it's not too much of a shock for the poor plant. Our last cat was completely disinterested in plants. This guy is mildly interested and that is upsetting. I love my plants. I love my kitty too. What a mess that was to clean up! Now he's taking a nap in his cat tree, looking all innocent!

I didn't even know she was pregnant. This is such sad news.

Yesterday was a beautiful day, both weather-wise and in the way we spent it. We went to WI to celebrate my grandson's birthday. All 6 grands were there and we had a blast playing outside in the sunshine. We saw 2 of our 3 daughters. We had a delicious lunch and a dirt cake birthday cake and I got some good pics. We stopped at Taco Bell on the way home, to avoid cooking and slept like babies last night! Today is a sunny and gorgeous day in Northern IL, with an expected high of 79! Hostas and tulips are popping out of the ground and daffodils are blooming. Sometimes life is just so good! 🥰

I wonder if there will be any more daddy/daughter dates, now that John has a son? Those all took place back when John and Alyssa were pretending to be satisfied with all girls.

I remember when some friends had a bonded pair. They had to put one down and worried how the other would react. The vet said that the remaining cat often does fine as a solo kitty. And theirs did. I think it helped, @Mindthinkr that your remaining cat was aware of the other one's struggles. The fact that you're still there probably helps her adjust to the new reality! I know you must miss him a lot. It is so difficult to lose a dear animal friend. Hugs!

Michaella and Brandon: He Writes Fairy Tales
BetyBee replied to Meredith Quill's topic in Bringing Up Bates
I just sobbed my way through Brandon & Michaela's "Our Infertility Journey" video. It really is such a shame that they are not yet parents. They have tried everything and it sounds like adoption may be next for them. They had one pregnancy that ended in miscarriage. They are a very close couple and they work to keep positive. I'm no fan of the Bates, but it has to be so hard for them to see all of these many pregnancies and happy outcomes. I really hope their dream of having children happens one of these days! -
Did you feel the sky tumb-o-ling down?

Back to the popcorn discussion, my Mom always used to tell us about their neighbors across the alley, who put water on their popcorn during the depression. As a kid and most of my life, I was puzzled by this. I was in my 60s when I realized it was to make the salt cling to the kernels, because they couldn't afford butter. Doh! As for high school class reunions, I think by the 50th (mine was last year), people are not as interested in impressing their former classmates. 10% of my HUGE high school class have passed away. It's more like a survivors group as the years go by. I really like some of my former classmates and have stayed in touch. But I didn't attend that one. I did not enjoy high school and my class was so big (1500) that I only knew a small percentage of my classmates. However, grade school get togethers usually take place the same weekend. Those are fun! I am glad to note that I am not alone in disliking highway driving these days. We usually take the train when we go into the city. We don't do much night driving any more, but we do try to stay active, so we are enjoying retirement. My book club and my ladies group keep me fairly busy. I also enjoy my couch! 😉

I stopped coloring my hair several years ago. It's very freeing not having to watch my roots anymore! Anyway, I took my daughter to get her hair cut in a 2 person salon. As I read a magazine and waited for her, the other stylist informed me that my hair made me look 10 years older (I'd never met him before) and that I should color it stat! He was so rude. My stylist told me that my hair was beautiful and I shouldn't take his comments to heart. It was really hurtful and I never asked for his opinion!

I recently gave up Words With Friends and Royal Match, 2 places where I wasted too much time! I didn't even like Royal Match, but I had downloaded it for my grandkids and kept going with it. I listen to a lot of podcasts and read books, of course. I had played WWF for many years and I'm surprised that I don't miss it at all! Yesterday I cleaned the MBR closet and got rid of a ton of clothes. I also have a bag of books to donate, mostly book club books I'll never re-read. We also hung up a few pictures I got from my Mom's estate. I ordered floating shelves for some of them. Those will come tomorrow. I'm going to put them in one of the guest rooms. My guests are typically family and they may want to pick up the pics for a closer look, so I decided not to hang them. There are a few collages, especially of my Mom and my Grandma. I have to attack the other closets next!

We watched Columbo Cries Wolf last night. I enjoyed it, especially the twist. It was really different from every other Columbo I've seen. I haven't been too thrilled with the later seasons, but it kind of felt like they were finding their groove with this one.

@Salacious Kitty- I'm so sorry for your loss! Everyone in this group was so helpful and kind to me when my Mom passed in December. Please feel free to DM if you're feeling overwhelmed. I hope that you have pleasant memories to comfort you as you grieve. It's really good that the funeral is planned and that MIL already downsized. Hugs to you and your family. ♥️

Thank you so much! We downloaded Tubi and have plenty more Columbos to watch!
