  1. I can't believe I missed that. I adored Randi (Randi!)
  2. I'm enjoying this show. I particularly like Randall's story, but very much enjoy Rebecca. Jack looks too greasy and unwashed for my tastes. The thing I'm happiest about is that chances are I won't "ship" any of these couples, which means it's probable my heart won't be broken no matter what happens (I'm looking straight at you with hate in my eyes, Shonda Rhimes). I wonder what the reveal will be about Miguel and I hope Randall's heart won't be broken by William (Shakespeare!!)
  3. I'm a speech therapist. No, just no to what you saw. On the other hand, Gloria's "American" voice was funny. I also enjoyed hearing and seeing that Manny appreciated not only his mom's, but Jay's influence on his life. Poor Alex. The way her family treats her has veered past funny into bullying.
  4. When I was in high school, way back in the 70s, I was 5'6" and weighed 135 pounds. I thought I was fat. Not in an anorexic way (and my heart goes out to people who suffer with that) but compared to other girls, I thought I was fat, and so did my mother. I went to Weight Watchers. I drank skimmed milk, I exercised, I counted calories. I deprived myself. I was an athlete, too, so I was physically active and I had no bus, so walked about 1.25 miles to and from school. I didn't binge drink, and we didn't have junk in the house. Fast forward to today - I've spent more time, money, and energy trying to lose 70 pounds than most moderately overweight people every dream of spending. I finally went to a functional medicine doctor and we did a ton of tests, only to find out amazing things about why it is so miserably difficult for me to lose weight. Yes, I can eat two slices of wheat bread, a slice of American cheese, and two eggs, and be physically hungry an hour later. As a poster upthread said, bread, cereal, and carbs are my mortal enemies. Two of our three daughters are morbidly obese - they weren't as children - I cooked real food and we didn't have junk in the house - but when they hit about 18 years old, the weight piled on. Our middle one played soccer in two different leagues year round until she tore her ACL. It's not as though she was a lazy person. Two of their female cousins on my husband's side of the family had the same massive weight gain. There is more at work here than just "mom and dad didn't monitor what they ate" or that fat people don't know they're at risk for severe medical problems. Science is finding out more and more about what's happening with our bodies. Suffice it to say this is a recent phenomenon, since while we've always had heavy people, now we have enormously heavy people in our American society. There's something more going on than a lack of self control. Everyone who is morbidly obese knows it. It may be something they/we don't discuss, but trust me, they know.
  5. I'd suggest it's less about underlying mental issues and more about metabolic syndrome, PCOS, thyroid problems, or other issues. I'm not saying that she may not have some other things going on, but it looked to me that she began gaining weight at a young age, unlike her brothers who could eat anything they wanted. That leads me to think it's physical.
  6. I'm still enjoying the show via DVR (although the AAC set up JJ's using kills me - so many better systems, but I get why they're doing it) but why does JJ have his aide outside of school and why is he driving JJ to school? Why the hell did the mom barge into the boy's/men's room? Just no. As ridiculous - a physical therapist just picking up and working on someone without a plan of care and a doctor's referral. Bye bye, license. And I have no respect for a parent who argues about paying for a therapist's time. I understand poetic license, but it's not hard to get it right while telling the story.
  7. I enjoyed pretty much everything about this episode, and especially liked Jay continuing to screw up "double click."
  8. Dumbass number three here. I was very confused - "Why is Walter Cronkite on the tv? Why are people smoking in the hospital?" It wasn't until I read online afterward about the "twist" that I went back and watched the ending again. Yes, I said, "D'OH!" as I smacked m y head.
  9. Things are not going well for Nicole: http://www.detroitnews.com/story/news/local/oakland-county/2016/08/11/rehab-addict-star-fights-mom-sons-dad-court/88599500/ http://www.detroitnews.com/story/news/local/oakland-county/2016/08/24/rehab-addict-star-court-hearing/89258578/
  10. Is he the manny or working real estate with Phil?
  11. I like Fred just fine - I enjoyed The Californians because of their ridiculous accents, and his "Mayor Bloomberg," especially the Hurricane Sandy cold open, is one of my favorite SNL skits ever.
  12. I haven't watched in a year and a half, and only just watched because I heard Will was back. Seeing him makes me realize why I walked away - he brought a real richness to the series that evaporated when he left. I watched for a while once he left, but the shift away from law and toward politics did me in - and I'm a political junkie. I'm left with realizing the only "finale" that was ever satisfying to me was the end of season 6 of "ER," when Carol left Chicago to go to Seattle and Doug. To me, that was the end of ER.
  13. An "old" Alex with a mustache answered a question, and the contestants' winnings were backward.
  14. I just started recording old episodes of Supernanny, and I find I enjoy them more than this new version. One of the big differences I see now versus then is that the old Jo would really speak her mind mercilessly :) I also wonder about the families who have their dysfunction on TV for the whole world to see, years and years later. I still enjoy it, though.
  15. I said the same thing to our daughter. Unless Jo went through the step-by-step and showed the parents how to do it like she did on Supernanny, where we'd see the clock move from 10 to 30 to 140 minutes while she worked through the time-out together, this mom was just asking for help and as you say, was very excited at the progress they were making.
  16. I hope that by watching the most recent episode with the child who has feeding issues that people don't get the impression that every child will be magically transformed into a good eater quickly. I'm a speech therapist and work with kids with feeding disorders, and with some kids (such as those on the autism spectrum) it can take YEARS to get them to have a decent, varied diet. Yes, Jo had some really great ideas (stop giving the child junk and liquids such as juice in between meals) but for kids with real feeding disorders, you need to work on introducing food outside of mealtimes and work on presenting food in a specific manner. I'd hate for parents to feel like failures if they don't magically transform their child into good eaters. Other than that, I am happy to see a version of her old show on the air. I frequently refer parents of the kids I work with to Supernanny or Youtube clips of it to help them work on discipline and sleep problems. In general, her techniques are exactly what I would do.
  17. Good point :) Maybe I'll broaden my horizons a bit ;)
  18. I continue to enjoy this season, especially since there seems to be parity amongst the cast without focusing on any one person [coughwiig]. I have now become a true fan of Jost and Che on WU, but cannot for the life of me get on board with Leslie Jones, primarily because right now, she's one note and has no subtlety to her performances. I think she has great potential, but needs some help. For the most part, I start a bit late and fast-forward through the musical guest(s).
  19. Thanks, that's what I have DVR'd already.
  20. How many episodes of the grandparents' house have aired so far?
  21. We haven't watched all season so I can't say I'll miss it. I'll probably Netflix it next year, but the show kinda lost me when they veered from law to politics. I love politics, but don't want to watch a show about it.
  22. I, too, really enjoyed this episode. I won't echo what everyone else has said, but I've been particularly touched by Phil - both his verbal smackdown with Andy a few episodes ago, and his knowing exactly what Alex needed in this one. Well, I'll echo one thing: Jay putting the girls to sleep by reading the closet instructional manual was genius on the writers' parts.
  23. I loved the ice cube throwaway line. Cracked us up. I thought Gloria was stealing the licenses to photocopy and to get the names on the tickets to match up with everyone's licenses. It was a cheap ploy to have her pickpocket, no doubt. I'm "meh" about Andy and Haley mostly because I really like Dylan and would miss him terribly.
  24. You're so right - do people even NEED public relations agencies for apps? I can't even imagine it's necessary.
