I sincerely think Kalani grew up in such a restricted way that she does not believe, or know that she has the agency to obtain and use contraceptives. She may have been told an IUD is birth control that essentially causes an abortion, or that the pill will give you breast cancer, and not understand SHE could buy condoms and make them conditional to intercourse.
