Oh, I do. "Frankie Martino getting old? I don't see it." Gahhh. Duh. Yes! Of course ... and they still don't have to write out Franco. This is why you, Drogo, are the god of mods and I am a mere poster. Thank you and ditto ... when they were having the pimp summit, I mentioned to Mr. Snappy that I did not remember Julito from Season 1 (then again I don't remember what month it is most of the time) and he insisted he was always one of the pimps so bravo for one of the few times I was right and he was wrong! I can savor that for awhile ... And we BOTH commented on the dog in that scene and our worries about the poor puppy. ... and I'm betting one death by police while robbing a pharmacy for more dilaudid on the horizon. Soon. Undoubtedly. Season 3 fast-forwards to the porn scene and especially the gay porn scene in the wake of the AIDS crisis so they are saving Paul for that. ETA: Help! How do I merge my posts? I do not want to piss off Drogo.

An absolute tour de force performance by Gary Carr (yet another Simon-series guy I was stunned to find out is actually British). For some reason I'd thought there were three episodes left or else I'd have expected a major death since that's one of the easter egg signatures (maybe not so easter egg) of Pelecanos et al -- the penultimate episode death of a major character. That said, obviously we lose someone next week too and I will be interested to see who ... with Vincent at graveside it's gotta be someone in his stratosphere (I was thinking Frankie but I don't think they'd do that ... yet). Probably Dorothy/Ashley or is that too obvious? Since I think many of us expected her to be this week's death, her survival was a surprise so maybe they get us with the gotcha next week instead. As long as it's not Leon I'm good. PLEASE make him a bigger part of the story next season ... BTW, I got the weirdest vibe that CC was (consciously or subconsciously) sort of trying to commit whatever the pimp equivalent is of suicide by cop. And yes, as Black Frankie said, they murdered the shit out of him.

Re: Ritter, there is an almost identical storyline but with policemen on The Rookie ... I thought they'd draw it out for several episodes culminating in dramatic showdown but they actually had him redeem himself heroically in, I think, episode 2. Not sure if I'm binging on so many police and fire department and medical shows that I'm getting them confused (I have short-term memory issues due to medical condition) or they're all running out of ideas or coincidence. They're happening too close to each other to be straight imitation/flattery.

The music supervision for this show is outstanding, so I was not at all surprised to note that the music supervisor is Alexandra Patsavas (Grey's Anatomy put her on the map, I guess, but her being a genius that even inspired Little Snappy to go into that part of the business kept her there). Anyway, this may be a small "easter egg" but one that if I'm correct and it was a very obscure nod versus total coincidence was all kinds of awesome ... the first non-classical song played in Episode 2 was a REALLY CATCHY pop ditty called "Shop Vac" by Jonathan Coulton ... who created and runs the annual "JoCo Cruise" which is ... tah dah ... a "theme cruise" for, well, pop culture geeks (Little Snappy and I had been planning on going on the 2020 cruise together to celebrate respective 60/30 birthdays but she's getting married instead so there goes money and vacation time) ... anyway, Matthew Weiner is one of the guests on the 2019 cruise.

The minute the escalator gave way, THIS was the first thing I thought of and figured it would go in the same direction so I wasn't shocked when proposing guy died (sad, but not shocked) ... I'm also terrified of escalator (only going down, not up ... I stand there hesitating with my foot in the air to get a good grip with plenty of room in front of me).

I REALLY hope that Nathaniel becomes part of the storyline down the road ... they've done a good job bringing in (can't remember his character's name but Rockmond Dunbar whom I love) more this season. Hen and Karen are one of my favorite TV couples, bar none ... doesn't hurt that I adore Aisha Hinds and Tracie Thoms. I watched the three most recent episodes in a row last night (for some reason, the first two had only partially recorded) and I thought those exact words at least 10 different times in those 2 1/2 hours.

A little bump here because with Halloween coming up I've got a lot of Sesame Street on my mind (working on a mostly homemade costume of Abby Cadabby -- the "mostly" because I bought headband and wand for cheap on eBay -- and making an Elmo costume for my dog who co-greets trick-or-treaters with me). I'd been thinking about a Baby Bear costume for the dog but think Elmo is more easily recognized ... from what I can tell, Abby is friends with both of them. (I also like that once I finish this costume, I can tuck it away for all future Halloweens and non-seasonal costume parties!) I'm in the minority that still loves Elmo after all these years ... I'd watched the "original" Sesame Street with my younger sister back in the day and then got back into it with my daughter, around the time Elmo joined the gang (to this day, with Little Snappy all grown up and getting married next fall, I STILL rewatch the old recordings we saved of some of the skits, most notably the Big Bad Perpetrator Wolf) I ADORE Baby Bear. He just cracks me up every time he opens his mouth.

Absolutely ... and I'm also fascinated by the parallel storylines of CC and Larry ... how the one is left in the dust by a changing world and the other has found a new calling.

A) I'm very glad I was wrong about MJW, both my prediction and also my worries that the character arc and run its course. He's definitely one of my favorite characters and a shining example of "kid star" who done good. B) This may be the most ridiculous and weird question but I'll throw it out there anyway on the off chance that someone may actually know ... I wonder if the creator of the show (or whoever chose character names) might have been a basketball fan in the 60s/70s or if Conrad's name is just totally random coincidence ... one of my all-time favorite NBA players was Connie Hawkins (though his nickname was shortened from Cornelius, not Conrad) and whenever I hear someone call Conrad by his actual name I always wonder about that. (Just found his rookie card in my husband/my combined old collection).

Yeah, for me that was the most heavy-handed storyline. In which episode will Nolan and legacy (West, right?) be together on a job where legacy effs up and Nolan gets blamed? Will legacy stay quiet at first and then fess up and come out of it braver on the other end? But overall, I enjoyed this ... I've been watching so many shows in the police/fire/med line of late (basically about 80% of the shows stacked up in my too-much-time-on-my-hands-retirement watch list) that I hope I can keep all my characters/storylines straight but this is a keeper for me so far.

I googled it while that yummy looking cup with the pineapple and the ice cream was still on my TV screen and was so sad that it's not a NATIONAL CHAIN. I'll join you on the road trip!

I've GOTTA think that by this point Michael has probably received dozens (maybe more) e-mails and come-ons from other "elder" women in the US who would be happy to sponsor him and his happity ass (still my favorite 90DF term) and he realizes Big Ang isn't the only whale in the pond. He can be polite and respectful and make her look like the nut job THAT SHE IS and come away with a new big mama. He knows which buttons to push. And if my theory is right, I don't blame him one bit ... it's win/win (I also hope he comes to his senses about political leanings but that's another story).

Spoilers and Spoiler Speculation: Benchmarking
PamelaMaeSnap replied to stopthestatic's topic in Grey's Anatomy
It's more (hopeful) speculation than spoiler ... but hope it qualifies as more than random speculation because I'm basing it on coming attractions for next week's show which is a two-hour crossover between the two shows which appeared to show a shot of the two of them from which I inferred a potential plot point (If this is not appropriate for this thread I apologize!) I try to avoid full-on spoilers because my 45 minutes a week of GA is one of my favorite guilty pleasures but when I saw the snippet I had to check the last few posts here to see if anyone had confirmed that possible pairing! -

Since I am one of the rare breed who likes Maggie, AND I love Station 19, I'm excited by the prospect of a crossover Maggie and Miller hookup! -
Wanted to post this clip about Gbenga Akinnagbe from Bucknell University's alumni page on its website and didn't know where else to post it ... I adore him and am so glad to see the spotlight he's getting in this story arc ... he went to high school basically right down the street from us. https://www.bucknell.edu/info-about-attending-bucknell/who-we-are/bucknell-stories/alumni-stories/gbenga-akinnagbe-00 ETA: To @sweetcookieface, to add to your list: Anwan Glover (Slim Charles/Leon) and, though it was (so far) a one-and-done, Clarke Peters (Lester Freamon/Ace, the retired pimp in the S1 finale!) ... I know there are more I'm forgetting but those two are key!

SO many possibilities ... the Lori/Larry/CC interpersonal tension ... PLUS Candy's turning Little Red Riding Hood into a modern-day fable about pimps and prostitutes!
-
Exactly! Thank you for mentioning this ... we didn't watch the first two together ... but I am really grateful someone brought it up here because otherwise I probably would have been going nuts trying to figure out why she was so familiar!!!

Also, I'd like to see more Bernice!!! Nice to see her this week if only briefly!

I think she just found her Big Bad Wolf, though (I feel like Max Bialystock in The Producers when he shouts "That's our Hitler!" I adore Akinnagbe. I agree with Slippity Slack that they may be setting up Paul for Season 3 when they explore the AIDS crisis and how it affected the whole scene ... I had also wondered, idly, watching the creation of the classy club/townhouse, if perhaps they might go in the direction of the Upstairs Lounge tragedy in New Orleans (especially with battling firebugs) but agree the AIDS angle is much more likely.

First of all, I am so Grey's bitch that I just allow myself to enjoy enjoy enjoy as a guilty pleasure and tear up at least once or twice an episode. Sorry not sorry. That said, there was a moment that is so incredibly picky of me that it took me out of the moment (probably because I am an officially-retired-as-of-tomorrow sportswriter of three decades). Dr. Gorgeous Hair was the team surgeon for the Seattle Mariners. So WHY OH WHY is the lone sports reference he uses (I can't recall if he said third-fourth stringer) a football and/or basketball analogy, not a baseball analogy? He doesn't name the sport, but there is virtually no such terminology as a third or fourth stringer in baseball. (And if he said "rounder," which I don't think he did, it still wouldn't make sense because basically any player who makes it to the majors is no longer viewed by what round they were drafted -- it's old news other than the bonus they received when they signed and will rarely if ever affect playing time or salary). The better analogy for baseball would probably have been the starting pitcher and the bullpen. Okay. Off to being a civilian now. If I misheard or misremember, mea culpa. That's my brain these days. But my ears perked up like a dog who hears the can of dog food being opened four rooms away (or maybe that's just MY dog).
