Totally this and thank you for posting it ... we've spent almost every summer with at least one short trip out to the coast (usually Bethany but we get around to RB, Dewey, etc. to eat) ... we've always noticed that there was a huge number of young Russian women (maybe guys too but we noticed mainly the young women for some reason) working at the restaurants and stores. Assumed there was some sort of exchange program or SOMETHING involved but I never actually did any homework on it. Maybe, just like certain immigrant populations are sent to certain areas (for example, a lot of Somalians in Minnesota and Arizona), for whatever reason there is a deal in place for the DelMar beach towns to hire seasonal employees through specific Russian agencies and have the paperwork set to go?

I will resemble that remark (though I doubt I'll make it into my 90s). Meanwhile, Facebook serves that purpose for me. I haven't liked a picture of me taken this century. Also, I way preferred the couch Debbie liked over the one Larissa liked. The latter made me squirm just looking at it and imagining how my fat thighs would stick to that faux pleather.

Sadly, I will always associate Lumberton as being where Michael Jordan's dad was robbed and murdered (and cremated as a John Doe before being identified).

I fess up to blubbering a few times in this episode ... something about Evie's mom just makes me cry so much and reminds me of another show I can't put my finger on (not Leftovers, but will add that the missing friend Evie does make me think of Leftovers as well) ... I loved the reveal that it was Evie's heart. Didn't see that coming at all. That said, wasn't in love with the part with Ben spilling the coffee on the guy and remarkably getting EVERYTHING he needed in those few moments. Plus I felt bad for the guy and hope the coffee wasn't too hot. The less Grace the better for me and I'll confess ditto Olive. But more Danny is always welcome. Come to mama, Daniel Sunjata (I fangeek back to his days playing Reggie Jackson in Bronx is Burning except Reggie Jackson only wishes he was as handsome, though he probably thinks he is). I also would like to see Mik with a good eyebrow wax but I definitely would love to know what eyeshadow combo she's wearing ... that copper is a very pretty look.

Actually, at least according to Wiki, Lumberton is equal parts white and black (about 36% each), with a relatively high (almost 13%) Native American population though a low Latino one (6%). Before I knew he was actually from Chicago and thought he was Lumbertonian (I made that up), I thought he could be ethnically ambiguous and before I knew his last name was thinking he could be part Native American (thinking he could be of Lumbee descent). BTW, for those wondering how they ended up in Myrtle Beach, SC, that would be pretty much the closest beach town to Lumberton ... it may be almost equidistant to Wilmington NC which is nice, but I think MB may actually be a little closer going southeast than straight east to Wilmington.

I think they are incredibly sweet. Am hoping/guessing that after the baby is born they come back to Maryland and live with his grandparents, who are among my favorite people EVER on this show from the little we've seen of them. I like their style. And as aging (aged?) hippies (kinda like me!), I don't think they'll be judgmental or anything, just welcoming of their grandbaby. I imagine him/her decked out in tiny little Grateful Dead onesies (you can buy them at Sunshine Octopus in Rehoboth Beach, probably not far from where the happy couple met).

I know! I'm currently reading a book (Truevine, it's excellent!) that gives a very detailed history of the circus(es) and sideshows where that factoid was mentioned and I thought that was kind of fitting since Eric is such a bozo. And, of course, Baraboo is ALSO apparently the hometown of Future Young Nazis of Amerika. I'm also curious if the hidden easter egg of this season is "sisters who let their sisters run their lives" ... I am not a fan of either Leida or Kalani by any means, but on the other hand I cannot figure out why said sisters really seem to be the bosses of everything they do with no questions asked (and both have living fathers). Kolonic considers Aless HER BABY, and Leida can't do anything without Reina's permission. I'm guessing based on past seasons, most of these couples WILL work out, at least for the final tell-all, but the only two I actually can see lasting a little while are Steven and Olga and Jay and Ashley. I'm betting the latter will double date with Melanie and Devar if they're not already.

Thank you!!! I thought I heard her say that and was like, oh no you dint. But I didn't care quite enough to hit rewind.

I have "binge-watched" the first six episodes in a second successful try and am now all in on the show, warts and all ... and while so much was trope (I'm fine with trope), I TOTALLY did not see this coming and absolutely did slow golf clap a la "well done, show!"

Apologies if this has already been addressed but my guess is that the grandfather is OP's "blood" grandfather and grandmother may have been a second wife who the OP still regarded as her grandmother ... I know in my family's case, my mother died quite young and my dad remarried a significantly younger woman, and my stepmom is really the only grandma my daughter has ever known (and gets the extra credit benefit of her grandma still being alive and well when most of the other relatives from that generation are long gone).

PS, for those who had been reminiscing about Miranda's "other" love, Eli the Nurse, the (very yummy) actor, Daniel Sunjata, just showed up as what I suspect will be a recurring character on "Manifest." -
I was watching this last night and had sort of shied away from online news because my stomach hurts enough already ... so only this morning (daily dose of news-gathering) did the irony of the timing hit me. (Read that AND all the news that the specific area to which Mr. Snappy and I were planning on moving in 2020 may be reduced to ashes by tonight -- pass the Xanax please.).
-
TOTALLY. Here I was dumb enough to think everything seemed pretty normal with them until "Put It In Proper-gate." I was just gobsmacked watching that scene. It was as if something in her bot program went haywire.

Deleting (poorly, obviously) because everyone else had much better and more informative things to say about Reading Terminal Market and Philly cheesesteaks in general than I did. But damn, just looking at the closeup of that cheesesteak made me cry (am on a diet and was nibbling on my carrot sticks while watching).

JUST got caught up with the first three episodes of this show last night and the ONE THING I had to do was come here to make sure this was the title of the thread. I knew sanity would rule among my PTV peeps and Drogo at the helm. PS ... If that one incident didn't make Eric smarten up and bail, he deserves everything he gets. But did you know that Leida's family is very wealthy and successful in Indonesia?

Exactly. I love that they've shown his arc of both having natural talent and working hard to refine it. Plus, for him, the journey seemed like getting into porn as an actor was already kind of a step away ... and a step up ... from pimping.
-
I thought that was Big Mike! Other quick thoughts ... for some reason I had misremembered the scene from the "upcomings" trailer from last week and thought it actually showed Vince graveside seeing a casket being lowered into the ground and therefore assumed the death was someone much closer to him than Dorothy. I read Alan Sepinwall's (always excellent) recap and while he posited this as uncertain, I definitely 110% thought that Larry's audition in the closing montage was for "legit" film and he'll be trying to make his way not only out of pimping but out of porn as well. I can't remember ... maybe someone here knows? ... if this final episode was written/filmed before it was 100% confirmed that the show was indeed coming back for S3, but I got a feeling that it COULD have been a series finale, not just a season finale. I miss the show already and am counting the months until ... what would it be, September? Good thing I've got a lot of stuff on my hands to keep me occupied (and will probably rewatch all of Treme AND Show Me A Hero again to see more Dominique Fishback).

Thought EXACT SAME THING ... and had to remind myself, oh, right, Izzie's not dead. -

Good point on the specter (no pun intended) of his showing up in a later episode. I'd just been thinking that since we knew he was dying and she didn't want to see him, to have her see all these ghosts of people from her past during that day, to then have him appear as a CGI ghost at the end of the episode would mean that he had died and she had not made her peace with him. (Which for me, at least, would have been preferable to having to watch Mer-and-Thatcher scenes since I found that whole storyline expendable) -

Yeah, now that I think about it, kinda shocked they didn't show Mer seeing a CGI of Thatcher at the very end. That would have been soooo Grey's. Except I guess not everyone would recognize him? -

I DO watch Station 19 and am holding out hope that they reunite. I love them as a couple and they are clearly still madly in love. Honestly, though, the only way I could see it happening would be if he suffered some sort of injury that required him to take a desk job within the station. Also, I'm on the short list that actually likes Mer and DeLuca as a couple. I didn't think I would, and I didn't originally, but I thought the chemistry was great this episode and I can totally see it happening. I don't see it with Linc (though they'll probably go that direction anyway because why else add him to the show? CC, by the way, is one of my town/city's big celebrities LOL). I can't recall, but did they show the CGI ghosts for anyone other than Meredith? I really did love that touch ... reminded me a bit of probably my all-time favorite sob-inducing scene EVER on this show, when Richard imagines dancing with Adele to "My Funny Valentine" ... Finally, I do love Tracie Thoms ... and while she is technically a recurring guest on 9-1-1 her character gets a lot of screen time and is part of one of my favorite storylines, as Hen's wife. -
I was ABSOLUTELY thinking about that when I was writing that last post and also thinking that now that I am retired after 30-plus years in journalism, I would LOVE to get a part-time job scouring newspapers (online or wherever) to come up with "torn from the headlines" stories for all these shows to incorporate. What a great gig that would be!

Because I watch this, 9-1-1, Station 19 and all the Chicago shows (Med/Fire/P.D.) I've noticed just this season how many storylines are being duplicated within a few weeks of each other and posted something about that not too long ago ... so last night when I watched this after having seen the 9-1-1 episode not that long ago (I was about a week or two behind -- that ran the first week of October) I definitely started thinking this was getting out of hand. I have to assume that all of these episodes are written/filmed/in the can well before they air and this WAS based on a true event but still ... yeah!
-
I absolutely think that the scene where the husband "knew" was imagined. From what I could figure out (and I admit it was a confusing episode for me, though also one I really liked because of the familiarity of so many of the sites), the only person who ended up "knowing" was her daughter or at least as I inferred in the final scene. Plus, for me, that final scene was fantastic thanks to the use of Aimee Mann's "Invisible Ink" to wrap it up ... again, I worship at the shrine of music supervisor Alexandra Patsavas.

I somehow missed the first half of this season (no fear, I've already set all of Holiday Baking Championship to record) so tuned in last night for a marathon from the episode where Brenda got eliminated with rosewater through the finals. Kept me going while working on making my own Halloween costume from scratch ... so here are my quick thoughts ... I was absolutely rooting for Jamal who I thought was lovely and creative. It seemed he went through those last few challenges, though, with little (or not-so-little) careless errors each time in the process but with an end result of apparent deliciousness which kept him alive. With no prior opinions built, I felt like Lyndsey was the favorite so not really surprised when she won. On the final challenge, all I could think of with Michelle was the time back when I was 10 that I competed in a sandcastle contest. Basically, I was surrounded by much better sandcastles (though we were all 10 so they weren't THAT amazing) whereas I made a big pile of sand with a few notches here and there but crafted such an elaborate story for the judges of "what everything was" that I actually won. Almost 50 years later I'm still sort of ashamed of that victory. And Michelle's decapitated mermaid twin head reminded me of that. I REALLY thought if the title was supposed to be based on the performance in the finals then Jamal was ripped off ... I thought his creation was absolutely breathtaking (a big fan of night-sky designs) and it was clearly the most delicious based on the judges' response ... That said, it seems like the title was more of a "what you did all season or at least recently" pick and I can't really argue with that. Hoping that we'll see Jamal on future shows because he's just a delightful breath of fresh island air! PS Speaking of people I wish we were NOT still seeing from previous shows, I winced every time they showed the trailer for Ultimate Thanksgiving Challenge ... ugh Christopher ugh ugh ugh.
